Paradigm has hired Kyle Jensen as a Literary Content Agent and Jamie Kaye-Phillips as a Theatre Literary Content Agent, upping Matthew Nutty from Coordinator to Agent in the Talent department.
Additionally, Napoli Management Group, a division of Paradigm Media Entertainment, has tapped Brian Neal as an agent. A 23-year veteran of the television news industry, he’ll in his new role rep all levels of on-air talent in the national broadcast news space.
Jensen and Nutty will be based out of the agency’s Los Angeles office, with Kaye-Phillips working out of New York. Where Neal will be based is not yet clear.
The hirings follow December’s announcement that Todd Eisner, a 30-year veteran talent agent, had joined Paradigm from the now-folded A3. Over the past year, Paradigm has been staffing up with the hires of Chris Till and Neil A. Cohen, as well as internal promotions, having elevated 14 agents to Partner.

The following contains major spoilers for both Bird Box: Barcelona and Bird Box.
Much to some viewers delight (and others’ annoyance), Netflix’s buzzy horror saga, which has grown out of a 2018 zeitgeist-y hit into a bonafide franchise via this weekend’s Bird Box: Barcelona, continues to take its cues from The Blair Witch Project. That is to say, they never show us the damn monster! Or in Bird Box’s case, monsters or creatures, plural.
This is of course thematically sound. The characters of both Bird Box (directed by Susanne Bier) and Bird Box: Barcelona (from writer-directors David Pastor and Alex Pastor) cannot gaze upon the creatures terrorizing them without being driven to suicide. So why would the movie show us? Netflix can’t have 45 million dead viewers on its hands after all!
But just because we never see the creatures, doesn’t mean we don’t learn anything about them.

Five years ago seems aeons in an era so disrupted by Covid. So it comes as a surprise to realize that the original screen “Bird Box” arrived a full 14 months or so in advance of pandemic restrictions — becoming an early Netflix pop-culture phenomenon before lockdown made that sort of thing a regular occurrence. Susanne Bier’s film of Josh Malerman’s sci-fi horror novel was intriguing and suspenseful enough, even if its emphasis on psychological drama over thrills made for a somewhat unlikely breakout hit.
Inevitably, if belatedly, there’s now a follow-up — but not an adaptation of Malerman’s own print sequel, which continued the travails of the character played by Sandra Bullock. Instead, “Bird Box Barcelona” is a “parallel story” set on another continent entirely. Written and directed by Alex and David Pastor, whose prior genre efforts “The Last Days” (2013) and “Carriers” (2009) both had similar basic premises, it...

Bird Box Barcelona, Netflix’s follow-up to the 2018 hit Bird Box, operates under the assumption that viewers are caught up to speed on the monstrous, unseen entities that rendered the world into a post-apocalyptic dystopia. Writer/Directors Álex Pastor and David Pastor bypass retreading the familiar invasion story beats to instead jump straight into character introductions against a backdrop already torn asunder. While 2018’s feature grapples with motherhood, Bird Box Barcelona explores grief, religion, and salvation. Its ambition in themes fascinates even when its execution struggles.
An opening scene introduces dad Sebastián (Mario Casas) having a touching moment with daughter Anna (Alejandra Howard) as they roller skate in an empty gym. It’s short-lived as the pair gear up with goggles and prepare for a blind trek to safety. The hostile strangers encountered shortly after signal a city deeply entrenched in and familiar with the creatures that have decimated the world.

Five years after the original "Bird Box" became an absolute sensation on Netflix, we're finally getting a follow-up. While it's not a proper sequel, it is more of a spin-off taking place elsewhere in the world. In this case, Spain, which is why the forthcoming movie is aptly titled "Bird Box Barcelona." That also has a nice alliterative ring to it. But that's about the only thing about this movie that looks nice, as it seems absolutely chaotic and tense.
This appears to be going with a very similar conceit as the original film, with survivors trying to avoid eye contact with the mysterious beings at the center of this disaster at all costs. It's a new group of people in an entirely new location. What will those new elements bring to the table? Let's have a look-see.

Netflix has unveiled a teaser trailer for Bird Box Barcelona, which expands on the 2018 film Bird Box, which starred Sandra Bullock as a mother who must shield her children from an evil force while also fighting for her own survival.
The Spanish-language spinoff movie has a blindfolded father, Sebastian, played by Mario Casas, protecting his daughter and joined by Barbarian breakout star Georgina Campbell as they look to escape from demonic entities in the desolate streets of Barcelona in a dark, sightless world.
“Wear blindfolds. Any means necessary to cover your eyes, and avoid visual contact with these beings,” terror-filled people are warned at one point during the teaser trailer for the film written and directed by Álex Pastor and David Pastor.
That’s because anyone who looks at the evil force will be compelled to violently kill themselves.

In today's news of slightly unnecessary projects, Netflix is reviving its hit original film "Bird Box" with a sequel-extension film called "Bird Box Barcelona." You read that right, we're getting another "Bird Box" film, but seemingly one that is simply adjacent to, and not a continuation of, the events of the original. Interesting.
Netflix debuted a one-minute teaser trailer for the new film — which was announced back in March 2021 — and it gives us a glimpse into a similar event as the 2018 film, only in Europe this time. There is chaos in major cities, and folks turn to obscuring their sight in the outside world in order to obtain shelter. Again, it's very much a global repositioning of the events of the first film, however, it does seem like this new story will have some of its own twists and turns.

It even spawned a viral ‘Bird Box challenge’. Well, now the world of Bird Box is back, and it’s heading to Barcelona.
It’s not quite a Cloverfield Paradox surprise release, but the announcement of the simply-titled Bird Box Barcelona does come pretty much out of the blue – it’s out in two months’ time, 14 July to be exact, and hasn’t been a part of Netflix’s recent slate announcements. Check out the first teaser here:
There you have it, then – it’s Bird Box, in Barcelona. By the sounds of it, this one will be a prequel-of-sorts, exploring the initial ‘outbreak’ in Spain, with new characters, new locations, and the same existential terror.

Back at the end of 2018, Netflix had a huge hit with their apocalyptic horror thriller Bird Box, based on a novel by Josh Malerman (pick up a copy Here). While Malerman has written a Bird Box sequel called Malorie (buy that one Here), Netflix has been focusing on the idea of producing Bird Box spin-offs that will be set in various locations around the globe. First up is a spin-off that’s set in Spain and was written and directed by Alex and David Pastor. While we’ve previously heard that this spin-off was going by the title A Ciegas, which happens to have been the Spanish title used for the first Bird Box, Netflix has now announced that the film is officially titled Bird Box Barcelona – and it will be available to watch on the streaming service as of July 14th!

Bird Box, one of Netflix’s most-watched movies ever, has finally spawned a follow-up — some four-and-a-half years after the Sandra Bullock-led original broke streaming records.
Released back in December 2018, the original Bird Box followed a mother (played by Bullock) as she and her children embark on a two-day journey whilst blindfolded, to avoid eye contact with a mysterious force that is decimating the world’s population. Sarah Paulson (American Horror Story) and John Malkovich (Billions) co-starred.

Netflix has said it will clock more than 30 Spanish-language projects across film, series, and non-fiction documentaries by the year’s end. The news was unveiled by Verónica Fernández, Director of Series for Spain and Portugal at an event to mark the expansion of the streamer’s production hub in Tres Cantos, Madrid.
Netflix has been available in Spain since 2015. The streamer’s Tres Cantos campus opened in 2019 and has since doubled its stage capacity and now features ten sets and a multi-purpose space that includes the company’s first in-house post-production facility.
Fernández said the new facilities “guarantee” that creatives in Spain will have the “means to continue to tell their stories.”
“No one thought we would have so much ongoing production and Spanish content,” she said at a Q&a session during the opening event. “We are 500 million Spanish speakers, but this content has gone beyond.”

Very few The Mediapro Studio shows, indeed very few Spanish series in general, have lit a fire on the open market like “The Head,” an Antarctic-set thriller which lifts off as a murder mystery to constantly evolve into other realms.
Starring Álvaro Morte, “Money Heist’s” Professor and Japanese pop idol Tomohisa Yamashita, written by Alex and David Pastor and directed by Jorge Dorado, “The Head” broke viewership records on co-financiers Hulu Japan and HBO Asia and sold to over 90 countries including HBO in the U.S.
The Mediapro Studio retained IP. “Sales opened doors to new markets and clients with whom we hadn’t worked before,” said Laura Fernández Espeso, CEO of The Mediapro Studio. It also began blazing a trail for Tms’s drive into English-language series, one of its biggest ambitions.
Yet a sequel was, by any measure, a tall order. Season 1 was always conceived as a limited series , notes Ran Tellem,...

The Expanse Season 5 Episode 8
This week’s The Expanse injects a whole different type of tension into the stories of escape and helplessness. While Amos’ arc has shifted into a quest to escape a dying planet, Naomi’s has become a desperate tale of survival and a MacGyver-esque call for rescue. While the Drummer family’s struggle under the yoke of Marco’s command isn’t quite as compelling, it, too, denotes a longing to break free that has been the thematic hallmark of season 5.
That’s not to say that the emotional turmoil Drummer is under doesn’t have its own draw. The distinction she makes between salvaging and scavenging the wreckage of a Belter faction that denied Marco’s rule carries a certain amount of tragic gravitas. Likewise, Karal likening Drummer’s reluctance to Naomi’s past betrayal of her Belter family...

“Homeland” creator Ran Tellem, whose hit thriller “The Head” was released across Asia this June, stressed the importance of nurturing local talent and placing faith in writers during his Conecta Fiction keynote.
During an online conversation with “Vendetta” executive producer Raffaella Bonivento, the head of The Mediapro Studio’s international content development arm said that finding talent outside Spain was an integral part of his role.

Jorge Dorado turns the Canary Islands into Antarctica in this thriller, recounted through flashbacks, which follows the investigation into a violent incident in a sinister, dark and isolated place. In Endless Night, Isabel Coixet warned us that when the light fades away in the Arctic, it’s not only shadows that loom, but also our most deeply buried truths. The Head, a series directed by Jorge Dorado (Mindscape) from a screenplay penned by brothers Álex and David Pastor (who released their film The Occupant on Netflix a short while ago), uses equally snowy and icy settings, but on the opposite side of the globe, to build up a six-episode show, with dialogue mainly in English, which is effective because it hinges on mystery, horror and isolation. For those of us who have suffered the same thing at first hand...
