The sci-fi genre has always been one of the most beloved among cinephiles as it gives us a new look at a particular technology or our world. There was a time when Max (formerly known as HBO Max) was the place for peak sci-fi shows but after taking off Westworld and Raised by Wolves from the service, and since then it has been lacking a bit regarding sci-fi shows. But still, we picked the seven best sci-fi shows that we could find on Max.
Avenue 5
Avenue 5 is a sci-fi dark comedy series created by Armando Iannucci. The Max series is set in the future and mostly in space and it follows the story of the crew and passengers on board the interplanetary cruise ship named Avenue 5. The Star Trek reboot may get another producer after hiring writer Seth Grahame-Smith and Andor director Toby Haynes for the project. Simon Kinberg, who produced the X-Men films, is reportedly in talks with Paramount Pictures to serve as a producer in the new iteration of the franchise. However, fans are not happy with Kinberg’s involvement in the project as his recent portfolio has been largely lackluster.

Fans shared that Kinberg ruined the X-Men franchise with his involvement and would repeat the same with the new reboot. The sci-fi space series received some recent love with the streaming series, Star Trek Discovery, Picard, and Strange New Worlds.

"We do very much have the ambition about creating a bigger universe around Spider-Man." These were the words uttered by former Sony Pictures Entertainment chief Michael Lynton after an investor meeting in November 2013. Those words would become the undoing of the franchise solely under Sony's stewardship, with 2014's "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" serving as the nail in the coffin. With the benefit of hindsight, we might be looking at the most outright financially successful franchise-killer in cinema history.
The Andrew Garfield-led "Spider-Man" films remain a tragic mixed bag. There are those who adore Garfield as Marvel's famed webslinger. There are many others who can't get past the messy direction the films themselves wandered down -- particularly this sequel we're talking about today.

I have this really bad habit when I watch new shows. I am always late to the party. It happens all the time. I watch a pilot of a TV show, write it off and then years later I find out it’s an incredible piece of work. Community, Brooklyn 99, Superstore, and Babylon 5 are a few that come to mind. It’s frustrating because I miss out on so much fun, like talking to other fans about the show, conventions, and fun marketing. Sure, you can still do many of these things after the show but, like a fresh slice of pizza, it always tastes better fresh out of the oven. Fringe is another slice that I have had to microwave. The series followed a quirky scientist, an estranged criminal son, and a badass FBI agent on some dark and fascinating twists and turns. These would involve alternate dimensions,...

J.J. Abrams' "Star Trek" reboot shook up the classic characters it depicts, and one of the biggest changes was turning Spock (Zachary Quinto) and Nyota Uhura (Zoe Saldana) into lovers. In the first movie, this is a bit of a bait and switch; there's some early sexual tension between Uhura and Kirk (Chris Pine), and she's even the first of the future Enterprise crew he meets when they flirt at a bar. Nyota, though, only has eyes for the Vulcan (like plenty of Trekkie fangirls) and the relationship endures in the two sequels, "Into Darkness" and "Beyond."
Now, this isn't a totally unprecedented pairing. There are a few suggestive moments between Spock (Leonard Nimoy) and Uhura (Nichelle Nichols) in early episodes of "Star Trek: The Original Series." In "The Man Trap," Uhura tries to strike up a conversation with Spock, and in "Charlie X," she sings while Spock plays his lute.

The concept of expanding Sony’s Spider-Man universe originated in 2013, intending to introduce spin-off films, notably one featuring Venom after ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2.’ Disheartened by the film’s reception, Sony abandoned these plans, entering a collaboration with Marvel Studios in 2015, integrating Spider-Man into the MCU.
Despite mixed-to-negative reviews for Ssu movies like Morbius, the universe persisted, with various live-action and animated projects in development, exploring both Spider-Man’s supporting characters and villains. Rumors now suggest two additional projects focusing on Doc Ock and Mysterio, as reported by Caiden Reed on X.

The idea of an expanded Sony’s Spider-Man universe began in 2013, with plans to launch spin-off films, including one centered on Venom, following ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2.’ However, due to the film’s disappointment, Sony abandoned these plans and collaborated with Marvel Studios in 2015, and since then, Spider-Man has been one of the main characters in MCU.
However, despite Ssu movies generally receiving mixed to bad reviews (looking at your Morbius), the Ssu continued and now has plenty of live-action and animated projects in development focusing both on Spider-Man’s supporting character and his villains. If rumors are to be believed, two more projects can be added to that slate projects, focusing on Dock Ock and Mysterio, as stated by Caiden Reed on X.

Star Trek Nemesis just about marked the death of the franchise. Indeed, the fact that it was a worldwide box-office disaster meant that many felt the series had run out of steam. For the first time in many years, there were no active big-screen franchises or Trek shows running on TV, with the often neglected Star Trek: Enterprise going off the air in 2005. It seemed space operas were out of vogue, with the rise of superhero movies taking Hollywood by storm. Not only was there the Sam Raimi Spider-Man movies and the Christopher Nolan Batman movies breaking box office records, but also a little company called Marvel studios decided to start making the own movies, beginning with Iron Man.
But what about Star Trek? For a while, Paramount wouldn’t have been able to produce a Star Trek movie even if they wanted to, with the company’s owner, Viacom,...

The character of Harcourt Fenton "Harry" Mudd, as played by actor Roger C. Carmel, appeared in two episodes of the original "Star Trek" and one episode of "Star Trek: The Animated Series." In 1966's "Mudd's Women," he served as a seller and transporter of mail-order brides. The women he transports (they all hitch a ride on the Enterprise) happen to be the most attractive women imaginable and are decked out on the finest diaphanous parkas that 1960s sci-fi fashion had to offer. It's later revealed that Mudd is a notorious swindler and smuggler and is wanted for various criminal endeavors throughout the quadrant. It's also revealed that the women he is transporting are made artificially more attractive through the regular ingestion of a miracle pill that temporarily transforms them into models. Since her debut in the 1986 animated "Transformers" movie, Arcee has been one of the most famous Autobots of all. The default girl Transformer, Arcee rocks a feminine pink-and-white color scheme and either a sports car or motorcycle vehicle mode. She's also had a bit of a rough history.
Arcee was considered for the 2007 "Transformers" film (check out concept art of her here), but like a few other characters, she was cut during development. Co-writer Roberto Orci explained the removal to IGN: "The idea of a female Transformer needs its own explanation, and there just wasn't going to be enough time."
The sequel, "Revenge of the Fallen," featured Arcee, but in one of its many faults, it didn't do much with her. Arcee is one of a trio of female motorcycle transformers; she's painted pink while her sisters are blue and purple (media differs on if the trio are separate...

It was galling -- outrageous, even! -- for Trekkies to learn that J.J. Abrams was not one of them.
Abrams, coming off successful TV shows like "Lost" and his first feature film "Mission: Impossible III," was the director selected by Paramount to helm the brand-new reboot of "Star Trek." At the time, the franchise had fizzled out, and it was crying out for something exciting to get the audience's attention again. Trekkies at the time would have loved something insular and nerdy, like, say, a three-hour epic based on "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine." For legal reasons, Paramount had other ideas.
You see, Paramount and CBS, both previously owned by Viacom, had recently undergone a split, forcing the "Star Trek" movie rights into one camp and "Star Trek" TV rights into the other. Any "Trek" movies put into production would have to be legally different from any of the TV shows.

There are few Transformers more famous than Soundwave and it's almost all thanks to the original cartoon. In that series, he was portrayed as more robotic than the other Decepticons; his voice (provided by Frank Welker and a vocoder effect) was electronic and his speech patterns were mechanical. Since Soundwave was less expressive than his castmates, he was less likely to indulge in the show's slapstick humor or suffer humiliation. These qualities added up to an air of coolness and mystery. On a show with paper-thin characters, Soundwave's lack of personality actually made him more memorable.
Since Soundwave has been part of "Transformers" from the beginning and is so well-remembered by fans, why was he excluded from the 2007 "Transformers" movie? He's in the sequels, but he's not a player you wait to take off the bench.
Well, his absence wasn't an oversight. "Transformers" writers Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman wanted...

For good or ill, "Transformers" broke new ground in creating photorealistic computer-generated characters and, in turn, splicing them into live-action footage. It's hard to imagine "The Avengers" in a world where the Autobots and Decepticons don't battle it out in the so-called Mission City. However, working in uncharted waters always leads to challenges in conceptualization.
"Transformers" screenwriter Roberto Orci spoke to IGN after the movie's release. It was "very hard" for him and co-writer Alex Kurtzman to merge the human and robot stories. I can understand their caution; before writing any scenes with the robots, they probably had to consider if the animators would even be able to pull them off. Accordingly, the first draft didn't have many Transformers at all; producer Steven Spielberg pitched the story as "a boy and his car," so that's what Orci and Kurtzman initially wrote.

It really is true: Spider-Man does whatever a spider can. And across 10 theatrically released films, in live-action and animation both, he (or sometimes she) has spun a web any size, catching those thieves just like flies. Still, not all webs are created equal, and some of those captured thieves have made for better cinematic opponents than others.
Indeed, alongside Batman, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man has probably been blessed with the most consistent series of superhero movies released by Hollywood, with millions of fans ready to swear that either Tobey Maguire, Tom Holland, or the kaleidoscopic animation led by Miles Morales (and Shameik Moore’s voice) is the best Spidey. Heck, there are those out there who will defend the Andrew Garfield years.

This article contains spoilers for all seasons of Fringe.
Many saw it as the second coming of The X-Files – a fresh retake on a group of agents, scientists, and conspiracy theorists that investigated pseudoscientific cases that normal reasoning could not explain. Fringe was a timely update to the format Fox had perfected in the late ‘90s and early 2000s, and creators J. J. Abrams, Alex Kurtzman, and Roberto Orci, mad-scientists in their own right, arguably brought the original Gen X viewers of X-Files and a new millennial audience together. Not by simply rehashing the same old “monster of the week” episodes, but connecting the outlandish science-fiction elements with realistic human experience.
Fringe followed the casework of the Fringe Division, a Federal Task Force supported within the Federal Bureau of Investigation, which includes Agent Olivia Dunham, (Anna Torv) Dr. Walter Bishop (John Noble), and Walter’s estranged son, Peter (Joshua Jackson...

When J.J. Abrams' feature film "Star Trek" was released in theaters in 2009, there seemed to be a clear creative mandate at work. "Star Trek" was set prior to the events of the 1966 TV series on which it was based, telling an alternate timeline version of how the well-known "Trek" characters all first met. Kirk (Chris Pine), Spock (Zachary Quinto), and the rest of the crew were all depicted as younger, hotter versions of themselves, each one more youthful and impulsive than their adult counterparts from 1966.
Given the hot-headedness of the Enterprise crew and the entire 2009 film's "action-packed" vibe, the mandate mentioned above seems to have demanded the filmmakers kick everything into Overdrive. It's as if they wanted critics to respond with the phrase, "This ain't your grandpa's 'Star Trek.'"

Development continues on writer Roberto Orci's 'alien' action TV series "Galaga Chronicles", adapting the 1981 Namco/Midway arcade video game:
"...the player is in control of a spacecraft situated at the bottom of the screen, with enemy aliens arriving in formation at the beginning of a stage, either trying to destroy, collide with, or capture the spaceship, with the player progressing every time alien forces are vanquished..."
In 2011, the game celebrated its 30th anniversary with the release of "Galaga 30th Collection" for iOS.
Emmy Award-winning animation studio ShadowMachine and digital studio The Nuttery Entertainment have joined development on the series, now planned for a 12-episode season.
"'Galaga' is one of the games I played growing up", said Orci. "I have fond memories of the quarters and hours upon hours I spent playing the game. I look forward to working with The Nuttery and to capture that magic in an exciting new format.

Eugenio Derbez will star and produce Netflix‘s Lotería, a family film inspired by the titular card game popular in Latin America and the United States.
The actor and comedian will portray a recently widowed father who discovers an old family deck of Lotería Don Clemente cards comes to life while trying to bond with his kids that take the family on a global adventure. While uncovering the secrets of the deck, they have to steer clear of a mysterious business magnate with devious plans.
Similar to bingo, Lotería Don Clemente is a popular game of chance that uses a 54-card deck with colorful images instead of numbered balls. Players use a board featuring a grid of 16 images (four images in rows of four) to be marked with a chip—oftentimes pinto beans are used—as the caller announces the name of a card. Whoever claims...

Other than a lot of lens flare, one aspect of the J.J. Abrams Star Trek reboot that haters loved to bring up was the fact that the Enterprise bridge kind of looked like an Apple store. Whether or not this fact dates the movie more than the style of the ‘60s bridge, or the laid-back Next Gen bridge is up for debate. But, within the context of the movie, the reason why the technology on Chris Pine’s USS Enterprise looks “better” than William Shatner’s Enterprise has an in-universe explanation. And, when Trekkies get into it about the various zigs-and-zags of the Kelvin Universe versus the Prime Universe, one very interesting detail from the 2009 Trek tends to get left out. Star Trek 2009 is streaming now on Netflix, so, let’s explore the Enterprise in the room: The souped-up-tech used by reboot Starfleet comes from reverse-engineered tech from the future of the Prime Universe.

Sony have obviously wanted Spider-Man and Venom to either face off or team up in a big budget blockbuster for a long time now, but so far, all they’ve managed to do is throw the woefully miscast Topher Grace into Sam Raimi’s third installment against the director’s will, adding one too many subplots to a movie that was already creaking under the weight of its own ambition.
When The Amazing Spider-Man series was being eyed as the launchpad for an entire shared universe, though, the plan was for Alex Kurtzman to co-write and direct a Venom spinoff. However, given that Kurtzman and regular collaborator Roberto Orci had been responsible for scripting Michael Bay’s first two Transformers films, Cowboys & Aliens and Star Trek Into Darkness, with the former eventually making his directorial debut on Tom Cruise’s disastrous The Mummy, it would be fair to say...

It's the end of an era.
Hawaii Five-0 Season 10 Episode 22 serves as the series finale of the iconic CBS series, and while many fans may not be ready to say goodbye, it looks like the series is going out in style.
Appropriately titled "Aloha," the milestone episode finds Danny worse for wear after being abducted and left for dead.
Would CBS really allow the series to conclude with Danny dying? It would be quite the twist, but this is the series finale.
What we do know is that recurring cast members James Marsters (Victor Hesse), William Sadler (John McGarrett), and Mark Dacascos (Wo Fat) return during the goodbye episode.
Many fans have been worried that the series will not get a conclusive goodbye because of how late the decision to end the series came.
But it's hard to imagine a 10-year-old series wrapping without a big farewell planned.
Here's the official press release from CBS.

Damon Lindelof is one of the most prolific showrunners in TV history thanks to critically acclaimed efforts like the one-two punch of HBO’s “The Leftovers” and “Watchmen.” Could a Marvel movie be in the writer’s future? In a new interview with Fandom, Lindelof says he’s eyeing major franchises like the Marvel Cinematic Universe and “Star Wars” now that his time on “Watchmen” has wrapped up. Lindelof has worked on film scripts before, from “Star Trek Into Darkness” to “Prometheus” and this weekend’s “The Hunt,” and he says the McU is more appealing to him than ever now that it’s starting to not play things as safe as it has in the past.
“I think that doing something in the Marvel universe, anywhere in the Marvel Universe, would be really potentially exciting for me, especially as they start to get a little bit more experimental,” Lindelof said.

Katrina Law (The Oath) has joined the upcoming 10th season of CBS’ hit drama Hawaii Five-o as a new series regular.
Law plays Quinn Liu, a former staff sergeant with Army Cid recently demoted for insubordination. After an explosive collision with Five-o on a case involving veterans, she soon becomes a loyal ally to the team that always has valued integrity over playing by the rules. Sharp-tongued in several languages, Quinn has a deep understanding of military culture, a mysterious past, and a deft ability to match wits with McGarrett (Alex O’Loughlin).
“We are thrilled to have Katrina join the 10th season Hawaii-Five-o as a series regular,” executive producer Peter Lenkov said. “She dazzles as Quinn, the team’s newest recruit, and viewers are going to love seeing how she first encounters McGarrett and Danny.
