Happy National Unfriend Day, PopWatchers! Jimmy Kimmel created this dubious holiday to restore integrity to the word “friend” and encourage people to “cut out some of the friend fat in your life.” Nud, guided by its declaration of indefriendence, reminds us that “all men are not created equal. Some men are very annoying.” Heh.
“Remember five years ago when no one was on Facebook, and you didn’t know what the guy you took high school biology with was having for lunch? Remember how that was fine? Let’s go back to that,” Kimmel joked. But it’s almost too true!

Despite his recent health woes, Bret Michaels definitely has his strength back. In next Friday's season premiere of Nickelodeon's animated series Glenn Martin, Dds, the rocker proves with one swift karate kick that all those appearances on Celebrity Apprentice, American Idol and Oprah—as well as his ongoing concert tour—have obviously been a lot easier to handle than you might think. Howie Mandel probably couldn't agree more.

New York -- The outlook for the advertising market amid a slow economic recovery and M&A activity, including Comcast's play for a 51% stake in NBC Universal, are expected to be key focus areas at the last big media and entertainment investor conference of 2009 here next week.
The 37th edition of the annual three-day Ubs Global Media and Communications Conference kicks off Monday at the Grand Hyatt in midtown Manhattan. As is tradition, industry titans will meet analysts and investors to preview 2010 and review the current year.
Last year, it was hard for CEOs and CFOs to paint rosy pictures amid financial crisis and recession. But now that the U.S. economy has returned to growth in the third quarter, investors will want to hear how 2010 may shape up for ad revenue, profits, sector stocks, which have had a strong year already, and possible mergers and acquisitions.

The stop-motion animation isn't going to cease any time soon. Nickelodeon has renewed Glenn Marin, Dds for a second season.
Glenn Martin, Dds revolves around a dentist, voiced by Kevin Nealon, and his family. After accidentally burning down their house, Glenn takes his family on a cross-country trip in a Winnebago. The show also stars the voice talent of Catherine O'Hara, Peter Oldring, Jackie Clarke, and Judy Greer.
The series has been very successful for Nick at Nite, attracting 2.1 million viewers per week and ranking as the most watched series for the cable channel's third quarter. As a result, the show's been picked up for another round of 20 episodes.
The series was co-created by Alex Berger, Eric Fogel, and former Disney CEO Michael Eisner. Reportedly, Eisner put up his own money to make the show's pilot episode.

Nickelodeon and Michael Eisner's outfit Tornante Animation are breathing a new level of Griswald-esque family dysfunction into the great American roadtrip with the new animation series Glenn Martin Dds. Glenn Martin, a dentist on the brink of a mid-life crisis, packs his family, on the edge of insanity, into an Rv. The roadtrippin' warriors zig zag from Amish countryside to neon skyline Vegas and back again as the patriarch works on teeth and everyone works on their issues.
Actor-comedian Peter Oldring, fresh from a cross-country research road trip with his fiance, gushes about his involvement in the stop animation series. Certainly not an animation rookie, Oldring signed on because he was particularly attracted to "depth and peculiar 3D quality to the process." The 23-year-old Canadian was awestruck by the fact that such a laborious, time-intensive art form was being resurrected. All the right elements combined into a groundbreaking project...

Nick at Nite has bought the cable rights to all seven seasons of Twentieth Television's "Malcolm in the Middle," which ran on Fox from 2000-06.
Beginning July 5, the series will air Sunday nights on Nick at Nite in the 8 p.m. time slot, effectively pushing the network's official starting time back an hour. The shift will eliminate confusion over Nick at Nite's prime time schedule, which began 60 minutes later than the rest of ad-supported TV's nightly lineup.
The move also will facilitate family viewing, said Cyma Zarghami, president of Nickelodeon and Mtvn Kids and Family Group. "We have conducted a great deal of research with kids and families, and two things that we hear continuously are that they want to spend more time together and that watching television is one of their favorite ways of making that happen," Zarghami said, by way of announcing the acquisition.
