Disney Channel has given hit series "Shake It Up" its orders and they are: Shut it down.
The original series will wrap up its run after 78 episodes, Deadline reports, with a final set of episodes due to air this summer and in the fall. "Shake It Up" is the No. 1 TV series year-to-date in both the kids 6-11 and tweens 9-14 demos, but the move to end the series while it's on top isn't uncommon for the network.
In June 2012, the network also said it was wrapping up "Good Luck Charlie" after four seasons, 100 episodes and a hit TV movie. The cancellation of both shows comes as the cabler is prepping the debuts of a handful of new series including "I Didn't Do It" and "Girl Meets World," with "Shake It Up" executive producer Rob Lotterstein moving over to co-exec produce "I Didn't Do It."

Exclusive: Disney Channel’s original series Shake It Up is wrapping its run after 78 episodes, with the final round of shows set to roll out this summer and in the fall. But one of the series’ stars, Zendaya, is sticking around, inking a deal to star a Disney Channel original movie. The move to end Shake It Up while it’s still going strong (it is the No. 1 TV series year-to-date in kids 6-11 and tweens 9-14 demos) is not atypical of the network, which tends to cap its original series after a set time. In June, Disney Channel said it was ending Good Luck Charlie after four seasons, 100 episodes and a hit TV movie. ABC on Thursday became the latest network to trim its 2008-09 development slate, citing the effects of the writers strike on this year's pilot season.
ABC went for a deep cut, releasing about 35-40 scripts, roughly one-third of its slate and the most of any network. Most of the projects are said to hail from the network's sister studio, ABC Studios, and about 15 are believed to be comedy scripts.
ABC's list of dismissed projects is said to include Alana Sanko's Get Out and Rob Lotterstein's One Big Happy. Both are executive produced by ABC Studios-based producers, Salma Hayek and Emile Levisetti, respectively.
Also let go are untitled scripts from Laurice Elehwany, Todd Graff and the duo of Dave Lampson and Andrew Leeds. Graff had been developing his project with non-writing producers Nina Wass and Gene Stein, whose overall deal with ABC Studios was terminated earlier this month, also as a fallout from the strike.

Two comedy projects have received cast-contingent pilot orders at NBC and Fox. NBC has given a thumbs up to My Name Is Earl, while Fox's is betting on The War at Home. Earl, from 20th Century Fox TV and Yes, Dear co-creator/executive producer Greg Garcia, centers on a low-rent crook who, after winning the lottery, decides to use his limited yet oddly effective intelligence to right the wrongs he has made in his life. CAA-repped Garcia wrote the pilot and is executive producing. War at Home, from Warner Bros. TV and studio-based Acme Prods., revolves around hypocritical parents who struggle to maintain dominance over their kids. Rob Lotterstein, who penned the script, is exec producing with Acme's Mindy Schultheis and Michael Hanel. Lotterstein most recently co-created and exec produced with Schultheis and Hanel the WB Network comedy project Sixteen to Life. He is repped by BWCS.
