“No One Will Save You,” the tale of a young woman (Kaitlyn Dever) battling extraterrestrial foes, just premiered on Hulu. In many ways it’s the ultimate scary alien invasion movie, throwing in menacing extraterrestrial intruders, abductions, ominously hovering UFOs and even a creepy “Invasion of the Body Snatchers” motif with gooey creatures nestled in your throat. It’s very scary and very good – so good, in fact, that you’ll probably have a hankering for more creepy stories of alien visitation.
To that end, here are five more scary-as-hell alien movies to watch after you finish “No One Will Save You” – and where you can watch them right now.

The director of 1993’s enduring classic Fire in the Sky, Bloody Disgusting has learned that Robert Lieberman passed away at the age of 75 earlier this month after a battle with cancer.
Many horror fans consider Fire in the Sky to be the most terrifying alien abduction movie ever made, with one scene in particular being among the scariest in the genre’s history.
Released in theaters in 1993, Fire in the Sky was based on Travis Walton’s book The Walton Experience, which itself was based on Walton’s real-life tales of alien abduction.
In the film’s most harrowing scene, Walton (played by D.B. Sweeney) is experimented on by a group of aliens, first emerging from a slimy cocoon and then being subjected to various forms of extraterrestrial torture. It’s a sequence that once seen is never unseen, frequently popping up on lists of the scariest scenes in horror...

Prior to 1989, actor Leslie Nielsen was still best known for playing heavies and villains. Even when he appeared in comedy classics like "Airplane!" in 1980 or "Police Squad!" in 1982, his comedic power was derived from his ability to stay stonefaced while absurdity explodes around him. 1989, however, saw the release of "The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad!" a film adaptation of the TV show. In that film, Nielsen played the role of Lt. Frank Drebin broadly, doing a lot of mugging and pratfalls. "The Naked Gun" was an enormous hit the year it was released, and Nielsen went full-bore into slapstick roles and spoof movies after that.
During the 1990s, Nielsen appeared in a litany of gloriously silly flicks like "Spy Hard," "Wrongfully Accused," "Repossessed" (a classic), "Dracula: Dead and Loving It," two of the "Scary Movie" sequels, and many others. Not all of these films were good, but...

Throughout the history of the art form, non-fiction cinema has seen its form consistently challenged. Be it the earliest days of travel documentaries blurring the line between narrative fiction and whatever “documentary” cinema truly means to today’s almost avant-garde ethnographic documentaries. However, a formally challenging piece of non-fiction filmmaking is ultimately nothing without a captivating central focus. And, frankly, a documentary with a subject that compels can be almost rudimentary in its craft and still be worthy of one’s time.
That’s where Angkor Awakens, the new film from documentarian Robert H. Lieberman lies. A novelist-turned-filmmaker, Lieberman is likely best known in studied documentary circles for his superlative They Call It Myanmar, and now shines a light on Cambodia, and that nation’s history including the Khmer Rouge genocide and their response to it. Toronto - In Canadian film, success begets success -- and grumbling from filmmakers long dependent on government coin who are now grasping for a lifeline in an increasingly global business with dwindling taxpayer subsidies. On Thursday, Telefilm Canada, the federal government’s film financier, held its annual general meeting to tout a new “success index” that encourages and rewards box office. A string of recent crowd-pleasing hits like the Jay Baruchel-starrer Goon, Robert Lieberman’s Breakaway and David Cronenberg’s A Dangerous Method has Telefilm continuing to help established and emerging film producers chase new financing and markets both at home and overseas.

Title: The Tortured Director: Robert Lieberman Starring: Erika Christensen, Jesse Metcalfe, Bill Moseley, Fulvio Cecere A stupendously inane and pointless slice of revenge-based horror whose title might as well describe the audience watching it, “The Tortured” chronicles the story of a young married couple’s capture and torment of the man convicted of kidnapping and murdering their five-year-old son. Told in hammy fashion and marked by a pair of hysterical, uneven lead performances, this inept genre entry is an embarrassment to almost all involved. Hey there! The world of the creative takes center stage on the big screen this week, as singers, writers, and performance artists feature heavily in the weekend releases. From ‘80s rock bands to the New York art scene to ex-pat writers in the birthplace of literary circles, The City of Lights itself, a hefty dose of the artistic graces the cinemas and adds some interesting and nontraditional subject matter to the lineup. Though the obligatory summer fare – another adult male with Peter Pan syndrome, a grisly murder flick, and even more aliens – isn’t very far behind. Looks like a blast!
Wedding bells reunite a father and son in this weekend’s “That’s My Boy,” from director Sean Anders (“Hot Tub Time Machine”). Of course, the reunion’s motives are mixed, as drunk, deadbeat dad Donny (Adam Sandler) is just looking for a handout from his son Todd (Andy Samberg...

Grief can be an enormously difficult emotion to pull off on screen, mainly because we all deal with it in different ways and it's hard for most of us to imagine the tragedy that befalls Craig and Elise Landry, the couple at the center of Robert Lieberman's The Tortured.
The Landrys' son, Benjamin, is taken from them in broad daylight and murdered by a sadistic child molester and serial murderer. The killer is captured by the police, but cuts a deal. It's one thing to lose your child, but seeing that the man who took him away from you isn't getting nearly the punishment you think he deserves? That may give one…ideas. It certainly gives the Landrys ideas. As I said, we all deal with grief in different ways, and The Tortured...

Apt Title Foretells Effect on its Audience: Lieberman’s Absurd Attempt at Horror
Robert Lieberman’s latest film, a quaggy, moronic torture porn debacle, ironically titled The Tortured, is finally getting released by IFC Films nearly two years after filming. Of course, we’re assuming this is because the distribution company realizes that Lieberman’s film is a dead ringer for a 2010 French Canadian freak show they acquired and released on DVD, the infamous 7 Days. Featuring only superficial differences from its foreign language counterpart, this uninspired exercise frighteningly proves that torture porn revenge has become merely pedestrian.
Beginning with Craig Landry (Jesse Metcalfe) screaming into a cell phone that his son has been kidnapped, we are treated to several memory induced flashback scenarios leading up to the presently grief stricken Craig and wife Elise (Erika Christensen). We get a small glimpse of the pedophile serial killer (Bill Moseley) that has kidnapped the child,...

What better way could there be to kick off your weekend than with a little maiming of a rotten sonovabitch who really deserves it? No, not any government officials or pundits, but that'd be nice too. What we're talking about here is an exclusive clip from Twisted Pictures' The Tortured. Dig it!

My wife once told me that she could not longer watch horror movies because she had a kid. While I was unable to sympathize with her distaste for my genre of choice I could only chock it up to not having had the experience of having a little baby yet. I have an awesome stepdaughter who rocks my socks, but there’s something in the blood relation aspect. Well low and behold I am now a daddy. I have a beautiful six month old daughter at home who lights up a room and drowns out your melancholy with a hint of her smile and flick of her toes. Why am I divulging the ultra-super moosh that has taken a hold of someone who’s pseudonym is Dr. Jimmy Terror? Because when you watch The Tortured as a parent you feel every ounce of a parent’s misery. You feel the...

Sports in films have been a cultural celebration, predating Leni Riefenstahl’s Olympia also owing its linage to Thomas Edison’s early experiments in motion. Crooked Arrows uses lacrosse as half an entrance into something more interesting: a portrait of an upstate New York tribe. The film falters where other sports movies have: growing too sentimental and a tad cheesy for its own good. Ruthless like Goon, it is not – structurally it suffers from the same good intentions of contemporary Christian based filmmaking.
Joe Logan (Brandon Routh) is a former lacrosse star and half-blood he runs the business affairs of a small reservation casino, seeking to expand at the hands of Mr. Geyer (Tom Kemp), a developer who is, above all things, all about the Benjamin’s. In exchange for transferring additional tribal land to the private corporation, Joe, a tribal liaison that drives an Audi convertible and sharp suites,...

Rob Lieberman’s (Fire in the Sky, Dexter) forthcoming tale, The Tortured, which tells the story of a kidnapped and murdered child and the subsequent crumbling of a family unit, will arrive on VOD May 11th. Marek Posival tackles the script.

The drum I will keep beating throughout the entirety of this podcast, throughout however many years the show runs for, the one you will beg me to stop harping on (though I never, ever will) is internal logic. I don’t care what kind of movie you’re making, I don’t care if the audience is meant to be 5 or 50: you need to have internal logic in your story. If not, the story falls apart. Even great movies that are implausible manage to make audiences forget those implausibilities while it’s taking place. But movies that don’t try to make audiences focus on what’s truly important, movies that don’t have internal logic and don’t care, are the ones I dislike most of all.

It's rare that a movie set can boast funnyman Russell Peters, babely Rob Lowe, Maxim approved Noureen DeWulf and internationally renowned Bollywood stalwart Anupam Kher but Breakaway has it all...and hockey.
Filmed, and set, in Toronto, the Robert Lieberman-directed flick finds Rajveer Singh (Vinay Virmani, who also wrote the story) struggling to pursue his hokey passion amidst his father's disapproval and desire for his son to continue in the family business. Add in a washed up coach (Lowe) willing to take a chance on the Speedy Singhs, a team of Sikh newbies Rajveer himself recruited, and you've got a feel-good underdog tale with cross-cultural appeal.
We were on the set of Breakaway, hitting theatres September 30, and got a chance to sit down with the film's stars to talk about what makes this movie distinctly Canadian and why it's hard to keep a straight face while you're working with Russell Peters.
