Zachary Levi isn’t giving up on the movie followup to his NBC series Chuck, and he says creators Josh Schwartz and Chris Fedak are on board.
Levi starred in the spy dramedy from 2007 to 2012 as Chuck Bartowski, an average guy who was dragged into the world of the the CIA and Nsa to take on dangerous criminals and other threats. He’s been campaigning for an expansion of the Chuck universe since the show ended, but he recently said on SiriusXM’s The Jess Cagle Show that it might actually be coming to fruition.
“I’ve been trying to make a Chuck movie since before we even finished the show. I saw the writing on the wall, I saw a lot of the streaming stuff starting to pop up. I saw a lot of like, well, people are doing, you know, like, you know, Zach Braff, I think was crowdfunding.

It’s not just your old high school and college buddies that are using stay-at-home quarantines during the coronavirus pandemic as an excuse to reconnect with you over Zoom. At the beginning of Circus Kane, circus master Balthazar Kane (Tim Abell) says “Nothing is for free. If it’s too good to be true it probably is”. This would have been good advice for a group of naive social media stars. Offered $250,00 if they can make it through a new haunted house attraction without being scared into submission, it really does seem too good to be true.

If the series finale of Chuck wasn’t a proper farewell, I do not know what is. These final two hours of Chuck were the most beautiful love letters to the fans, cast, crew, and everyone involved in supporting Chuck over these five incredible seasons. The comedy, the action, the romance, the geek references… it all came to an end last night in the most perfect way. Josh Schwartz and Chris Fedak did not disappoint. Everyone poured their heart and soul into the finale and it showed. What a beautiful ending.

Just like in the children’s tale of the “little engine that could,” Chuck was a television show that kept on chugging away against all odds and carved out a place in television history by running five seasons on the sheer will-power of its fans. Millions of Subway sandwiches later, the fans are still passionately devoted to their show. Having coined the phrases: Nerd Herd, Buy More and Captain Awesome, as well as creating a whole new dialect comprised of “the Intersect”, “flashes” and “Jeffster” and redefining what it means when a TV show is “on the bubble,” Chuck is now legendary. It not only created a universally-accepted and widely used lexicon, Chuck also introduced characters which fans fell in love with from around the globe. As the cast will soon discover, fans are not quick to forget their beloved characters and the names: Chuck, Sarah, Casey, Morgan, Ellie, Awesome,...

Chuck began with a very special opening title, one fans will definitely appreciate especially since this was not the series finale and fans would love nothing more for familiarity come then. Perhaps the original opening awaits us in the finale episode? No matter, this week was the calm before the storm and an almost movie like opening set the tone perfectly for this week and the final episode. Embrace the movie like opening, people because this is it.

This week’s episode of Chuck took a back seat in exhilaration and heart pounding action. Ordinarily, a break from all of the action would be fitting but with these being the final episodes of the series… much is expected. And unfortunately there was not enough action… or comedy. Last night’s episode actually seemed rather slow moving. With such dynamite episodes in the past few weeks, this change of pace did not go unnoticed. So while this episode does not stand out among the rest, it did provide for some entertainment.

Chuck Ep. 5.02, “Chuck Versus the Bearded Bandit”
Written by Lauren LeFranc and Rafe Judkins
Directed by Patrick Norris
Airs Fridays at 8pm (Et) on NBC
Over the past few seasons of Chuck, key revelations have clarified that Chuck Bartowski was more than just the guy who accidentally received the Intersect. His brain has the unique ability to handle the tremendous volume of information and special skills injected by the device. Chuck’s personality also remains intact, which keeps him from becoming too power-hungry. In last season’s “Chuck Versus the A-Team,” top CIA stars couldn’t handle this power with the same even-handed approach. Now that Morgan inadvertently has the Intersect in his head, will he face similar problems as those agents? The premiere mostly played his new role for laughs, but its follow-up shows that life isn’t so rosy for the lovable sidekick.

Yes it’s been several months since we left the newlyweds to begin their new life together – with each other and with their new agency, and the new abilities of Chuck’s lifelong buddy Morgan. Chicago – There have been a number of casualties of the debacle of “The Jay Leno Show” but one has to believe that were NBC not in such dire straits when it comes to ratings (an increasingly depressing situation for the network with new lows nearly every week) that “Chuck” would have been canceled years ago. The program has been on “bubble watch” since its first season, when it dipped below 60th place in the weekly ratings. And yet here we are, reviewing the fifth-season premiere of the show that simply wouldn’t die.

What does Mark Christopher Lawrence love most about the upcoming final season of Chuck? It's going back to the basics.
That's what he told me and a few other journalists at Comic-Con, revealing how this season is going to focus more on the Buy More less on the around-the-world spy adventures we've often seen over the last year or two.
The big man behind Big Mike also discussed his character's role in the upcoming season, his major episode (the second one of the fall), and eating so many Subway sandwiches. Watch the full video interview and see/hear for yourself now!

I told myself I wouldn’t cry. Even though the Chuck cast would be sitting down with me for what would be their final Comic-Con interview as a cast, I refused to let my emotions get the better of me.
But a funny thing happened when Yvonne Strahovski, Joshua Gomez, Ryan McPartlin,Mark Christopher Lawrence, Vik Sahay, Scott Krinsky and Adam Baldwin made a pit stop at TVLine’s interview suite over the weekend — I didn’t shed a single tear. Yay me! I did, however, get a little wistful as the Q&A started winding down.

Time for yet another of my "Chuck" Comic-Con video interviews, this time with Big Mike himself, Mark Christopher Lawrence. It's occurred to me many a time that Lawrence is as responsible for saving "Chuck" after season 2 as any fan, critic, etc., since it was Big Mike's love of Subway sandwiches that inspired the whole campaign. And since Lawrence has such a gift for describing sandwich ingredients, the show's various Subway plugs just feel like part of the fun rather than an intrusion. So we talked about subs, where the Buy More employees fit in with the show's more spy-friendly castmembers, and what...

Expert geeks and contributing cynics Luke Y. Thompson & Gary Hodges are covering Comic-Con for Deadline. The following is a list of panels that they consider to be of most likely interest to Deadline readers. As there are not enough hours in the day, a panel's inclusion on this list does not necessarily mean they will report on it in more detail later. This covers official convention events only; numerous other things, like the Cowboys and Aliens premiere, will be happening but are not necessarily open to all badgeholders. Opinions and commentary are those of Luke or Gary alone, and do not necessarily represent those of anyone else at Deadline. (Remember, Nikki doesn't do geek...) All panels are subject to change, especially if somebody gets stabbed in the eye again this year: Saturday, July 23 10:00-11:00 - From Buddha to Batman: Deepak Chopra and Grant Morrison Discuss The Seven Spiritual Laws of Superheroes.

Over the weekend, San Diego Comic-Con announced the programming schedule for Saturday and Sunday at this year's convention. Usually, Saturday is the most impressive day as it's the weekend and has the biggest amount of people coming into the area while Sunday is usually the most unexciting day as it's the final day of the event and everything is winding down. For 2011, each day is going in the opposite direction. Saturday's movie programming is very underwhelming, save for a few films like Snow White and the Huntsman and Francis Ford Coppola's Twixt, with more cool TV panels popping up than usual. Sunday is significantly better than usual, especially if you like TV, with Hall H panels on It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Glee and more. Read about the highlights, with commentary and more after the jump. To be fair, most of these complaints stem from the fact that the...

The Saturday panels of San Diego Comic Con traditionally draw the biggest audience. TV stations have been fighting for a slot on the third day which would be perfect to introduce new shows. This particular year, Fox has prepared "Terra Nova" and "Alcatraz", NBC brings out "Grimm", CBS will promote "Person of Interest" while ABC has "Charlie's Angels".
Also in the July 23 event, TV Guide magazine would host a discussion about shows with supernatural themes such as "The Secret Circle", "Torchwood" and "True Blood". The panel which is moderated by William Keck is held at 2:30 P.M. At room 5Ab.
Below is the rundown for the Saturday panels for returning and new series. The rest of the panels can be found here.

If past years are any indication, Comic-Con will begin releasing its official 2011 panel schedule later today (Wednesday) with the schedule for Preview Night, Wednesday, July 20. If that happens then we can expect them to follow suit for the rest of the days, so that Thursday will see the release of the Thursday of Con schedule, etc., through Sunday.
Once the official schedules are posted these “TV and Movie Panels and Screenings Updates” will be scaled back to just the date, time, title, and location, since the rest of the information and So Much More (including comics panels, autograph signings, etc.) will be available on the Comic-Con schedule link we’ll provide. Consider this, then, the last of the extremely long posts, and hopefully we’ll be getting that official schedule soon.

The second update but absolutely not the last. We have yet to hear from the major networks, Syfy, TNT or USA about their panels. More to the point, we have yet to hear from Comic-Con, at least as to the official schedule.
As you may know, they resold the returned 4-day passes on Friday, and those sold out within a couple of hours. It likely only took that long because only a certain number of people could be purchasing at one time. Returned one day tickets will go on sale shortly; if you’re interested in attempting to be amongst the lucky few who will achieve tickets, you must be following Comic-Con on Twitter for the latest updates
Information added to this update includes Locke & Key, Dexter, Shameless, Homeland, Archer, Wilfred, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Sons of Anarchy, Shark Night 3D, Haywire, The Raven, Immortals, Thanks to THR...

Woo Hoo! Comic-Con 2011 info is really starting to flow! As a veteran attendee, one of the most exciting things I’ve seen are the blurbs that come out on the official schedule, being released early by studios! First out of the gate for that appears to be from Warner Bros. Television Group. The panel blurbs, along with the dates, times, and room numbers, have been released in a statement. For this post we scrapped the previous format in favor of Comic-Con’s format whenever that information is available. Here we go!

"Chuck" had a whole lot to pack into 41 minutes or so of story this week -- a pair of pre-wedding parties, a heart-to-heart between Chuck and Ellie and a big development in this season's ongoing spy story. "Chuck vs. Agent X" felt slightly overstuffed at times, but the good far outweighed the bad in an episode that deftly set the stage for the final two episodes of the season.
Even if you had your suspicions about the identity of Agent X, the revelation at the end worked. Ellie's introduction to Castle and the spy world, which followed her and Chuck finally coming clean with one another, also played well. And comically stoned Jeff is pretty much always good.
If anything, the episode maybe could have used a little bit less time on the bachelor-party prep and the trip to Las Vecas (as opposed to Las Vegas) before Ray Wise (Ok,...

Chuck was all about finding the next intersect for the team and the process didn’t exactly go as planned once his favorite candidate was murdered in the castle!
Things started out quite well as Chuck (Zachary Levi) led this mission, giving Casey (Adam Baldwin) and Sarah (Yvonne Strahovski) assignments as well as putting Morgan (Joshua Gomez) in charge of finding out the candidates’ cultural knowledge. This was of course the most important aspect of a future intersect. Not. But it was certainly the most comedic moment of the episode…that is aside from the missing Kevin Bacon. Above ground at Buy More, Lester (Vik Sahay), Jeff (Scott Krinsky), and Big Mike (Mark Christopher Lawrence) found themselves in a mascot battle against Large Mart led by Marvin (guest star, David H. Lawrence Xvii) and Bacon was in the middle of that tiring battle.

The law of unintended consequences loomed large over "Chuck" this time out, with both of the women currently occupying most of Agent Bartowski's time going places he didn't really foresee them going.
"Chuck vs. the First Bank of Evil" didn't work on quite as high a level as "vs. the Masquerade" did the previous week, partly because it spent a lot of time on the new character of Vivian McArthur Volkoff. Depending on how the rest of the season plays out, this episode could turn out to be more important than it seems now -- but it is now, and for the moment the A-story was a minor letdown from last week.
Despite that, though, it feels like the show is doing the right thing by slow-playing Vivian's entry into the world of spies and bad guys and making her the flip side of the Chuck coin. It took Chuck...

Did you miss last week's episode? Make sure you catch up with last week's recap!
"Chuck vs. The Push Mix" opens in Casey's hospital room with Casey still in bad shape and mostly unresponsive. Ellie says he'll regain consciousness in a couple days. Alex shouldn't worry -- Casey is family, and Bartowskis take care of their family. (Nice use of the slow Chuck theme music in this scene.) A low sound is heard. Morgan knows that sound anywhere: it was a Casey grunt! What is he saying, they wonder. "Pants..." Why did Casey say "pants?" Morgan thinks it's because he'll never walk again and won't need pants, but Alex offers that maybe there is something in them. Morgan searches Casey's pockets and retrieves the piece of the Hydra eyeball. He hands it to Chuck who flashes information on Hydra and its designer, Ronnie Eimacher. Chuck wonders where Casey got the eyeball.
