Marvel has been known to be quite unjust towards specific characters in their collection. The perfect example of this would be Danny Rand, better known as Iron Fist. He is one of the most beloved mystical characters in the Marvel Universe. Despite this, the character has not had the best experience when it comes to live action.
Marvel’s Iron Fist
While the fans have contrasting opinions when it comes to the 2017 Netflix series, its cancellation was not appreciated by anyone. However, now that Daredevil is getting another opportunity through Daredevil: Born Again, what is stopping Marvel from doing the same with Rand, and what better opportunity than his 50th anniversary?
Marvel’s Celebrates 50 Years of Iron Fist
Iron Fist made his debut in the world of comics in May 1974 in the fifteenth issue of Marvel Premiere. Created by Roy Thomas and Gil Kane, the character has become iconic for many different reasons.

It is indisputable that the Netflix series Iron Fist, starring Finn Jones on Netflix, struggled to garner favorable reviews. Scott Buck’s series has a 20% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. However, with a 71% favorability rating, it somehow garnered slightly higher respect from the review aggregator’s audience.
Its cancellation in 2018 was a further letdown. Since then, fans of the character have expressed a keen interest in seeing Jones reprise his role as Danny Rand, aka Iron Fist, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Despite years after the show and its lackluster reception, there is a growing call for Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige to give Jones “another chance” to play the iconic martial arts hero on the big screen.

Wolverine Firsts
These are the building block issues that made up the character to be “The best there is…”
Oct-Nov 1974 Incredible Hulk #180-#181
Writer: Len Wein | Artist: Herb Trimpe | Inker: Jack Abel | Colourist: Glynnis Oliver | Letters: Artie Simek
So where did it all begin? Rather simply like a lot of decisions in comics it came from an idea to boost sales, Roy Thomas wanted to appeal more to Canadian readers. This seems like an odd statement as all the cover billing of him being Canadian didn’t occur till his full appearance in #181. As part of his creation in his role of art director John Romita Snr. was tasked with designing the look of Wolverine. As part of his design, he sketched out an unmasked Wolverine. It is easy to find online and shows a very different Wolverine. The eyes are there, but his hair is short and tidy. What...

Initially, the first nine issues, simply titled ‘Fear,’ were reprints of stories from Marvel’s pre-superhero era. These included tales from ‘Journey into Mystery,’ ‘Strange Tales,’ ‘Tales to Astonish,’ and ‘Tales of Suspense.’ Most of these early stories were penned by Stan Lee and Larry Lieber, featuring artwork from legends like Jack Kirby, Steve Ditko, and Don Heck.

Welcome to the latest instalment of a brand-new feature here on Nerdly, where one of our comic gurus, Ian Wells, delves into comics history and dissects Comics Interview, the long-running journal of interviews and criticism from David Anthony Kraft.

Nathan Fillion has joined the cast of “Superman: Legacy” as Green Lantern’s Guy Gardner, along with Isabela Merced who will play Hawkgirl, and Edi Gathegi, who will play Mister Terrific, according to an insider with knowledge of the project.
The trio joins a growing cast for James Gunn’s DC reboot that stars David Corenswet as the Man of Steel, and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane.
Gardner was introduced in Green Lantern (Vol. 2) #59 by John Broome and Gil Kane. Gardner was initially a second-rate Green Lantern who was passed over in favor of Hal Jordan. However, he later became one of Earth’s greatest protectors and a significant member of the Justice League. Despite his often abrasive personality, Gardner is devoted to the Corps and is a vaunted member of the Green Lantern Honor Guard.

This post contains spoilers for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
Who is Adam Warlock? Questions like that are common among MCU fans who haven’t read any comics featuring him! Since the universe launched in 2008 with Iron Man, the MCU has been bringing oddballs like Volstagg the Voluminous and Modok to the big screen, giving long-time comic book readers ample opportunity to dump out their years of accumulated knowledge, and no series has indulged in the oddities of the Marvel Universe like Guardians of the Galaxy, which made household names out of Z-listers Drax the Destroyer and Groot.
With Adam Warlock, things are even more complicated. Not only has the character had different names and very different motivations, and not only does he have a fairly convoluted back story, but his prominent stories have involved Thanos and the Infinity Stones, things that are no longer going concerns in the MCU.

Ah, May is finally here! The temps are rising, the sun’s shining, the flowers are blooming and it’s time (as it has for the last ten years or so) for another trek into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) courtesy of your friendly neighborhood multiplex. Now for this flick, we can accentuate the U, because after “getting small” in the Quantum Realm three months ago and diving deep into the ocean waters near Wakanda we’re going to catch up with that “bunch of A-holes’ zipping around the fringes of way, way out outer space. It seems like it’s been a long time, but they’ve kept busy in other MCU franchises along with Thor and the Avengers, and even had their own streaming holiday special last year on Disney+. As this is their third solo outing, the filmmaker at the helm has promised that this is his last,...

In 2011, the silver screen debut of Green Lantern landed like a thud instead of soaring like a triumph. The film was dismissed both by critics and wider audiences; one of the more positive reviews was Roger Ebert's middling praise, "['Green Lantern'] intends to be a sound-and-light show, assaulting the audience with sensational special effects. If that's what you want, that's what you get."
Time hasn't been any kinder to "Green Lantern." Star Ryan Reynolds has poked fun at it in both of his subsequent "Deadpool" movies. "Green Lantern" was conceived as the beginning of a larger DC Comics film franchise, meant to rival the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Instead, its hero has been persona non grata on film since. Green Lantern is usually a staple of the Justice League but in both versions of that film, the only Lantern who showed up was a cameo.

Warning: Major spoilers ahead for episode 2 of "She-Hulk: Attorney at Law."
Fans of the "She-Hulk" comics will be delighted to finally see the superpowered lawyer on the small screen, as Marvel's "She-Hulk: Attorney at Law" premiered last week on Disney+. Apart from following Jennifer Walters/She-Hulk (Tatiana Maslany), the series also features special appearances from The Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) and Wong (Benedict Wong), among other superheroes. Apart from this, the show also marks the return of a certain gamma-charged green anti-hero. Yes, Marvel's Abomination (Tim Roth), who first appeared in 2008's "The Incredible Hulk" and made a cameo appearance in "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings," is back and seems to have changed quite a deal.
Roth reprising his role as Emil Blonsky/Abomination is a pleasant surprise for MCU fans, and it turns out that his "Shang-Chi" cameo came about due to his "She-Hulk" role, not the other way around.

When Guardians of the Galaxy released in 2014, it took viewers to some of the most exotic worlds from Marvel Comics, including the Nova home world Xandar and Knowhere, the city built in the severed head of a dead Celestial. If recent leaked set photos are to be believed, the franchise will continue this tradition with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

“Morbius” director Daniel Espinosa remains “proud” of his comic book tentpole despite the movie earning abysmal reviews from film critics. The Jared Leto-starring superhero movie boasts a paltry 17 on Rotten Tomatoes, making it one of the lowest-rated Marvel films ever released. Espinosa confronted the film’s negative reviews in an interview with Insider.
“When I did my first feature it was a small movie called ‘Babylon Disease,'” Espinosa said. “I remember one day going home on the subway and I had a few drinks so I was a bit drunk. Someone nudged me on the train and said, ‘I have to tell you what’s wrong with the second scene in your feature,’ and I was like, ‘Well, okay.'”

Already, it’s been over three months, so who’s ready to return to the Marvel Universe via your nearby multiplex? Now, before the littlest hands “rise up”, be forewarned that this is the “dark, spooky” corner of Marvel. Oh, and technically it’s not the official MCU, but rather the “Sony-verse’ as this is labeled “in association with Marvel”, much as was the Oscar-winning Spider-verse animated epic and the twin Venom flicks. But it does tie into our favorite “wall-crawler” as did the former films. To coincide with Spidey’s sixtieth (must be something extra in that radioactive “bite”). we’re getting another villain “spin-off” (insert web-spinning puns). Now, the oozing symbiote was from the 1980s and the “baddie quintet” from December’s blockbuster are all from the 1960s. So what about those swingin’ sparkly 70s? To be precise, 1971 saw a lot of change in the “funny books...

It’s become something of a running gag on the internet that “Morbius” isn’t really a movie. Online observers insist that, from its ever-changing release date over the last two years to its grim and somewhat goofy premise involving Jared Leto as a scientist who turns into a vampire, this has to be an elaborate prank and not an actual film.
We can confirm that “Morbius” is, really and truly, a movie. Granted, it’s not much of a movie, but it’s a movie nonetheless.
Leto does indeed star as Michael Morbius, a world-renowned physician — talented enough to invent an artificial blood substitute, iconoclastic enough to turn down the Nobel Prize he won for the invention — who has grappled with blood-borne disease since childhood. With the financial support of lifelong friend and fellow patient Milo (Matt Smith), Michael has become a leader in his field, even as he...

After years’ worth of delays, Sony’s Morbius will finally premiere on April 1. But with a new blockbuster movie also comes reactions from fans who got to see an early screening. And for the most part, the reactions are not good. Chief complaints include dodgy CGI, poor storytelling, and an uneven tone. Of particular note are the post-credit scenes, which one tweeter called “some of the Worst you’ve ever seen.” Not too much praise for lead Jared Leto, but the response to Matt Smith’s over-the-top villain seems to be positive.
Directed by Daniel Espinosa, Morbius is the latest in Sony’s Spiderverse. Leto plays Dr. Michael Morbius, a brilliant scientist who suffers from a rare blood disease. After he performs a transfusion on himself, Morbius becomes a living vampire, cursed with a thirst for blood but given enhanced senses and strength. Morbius goes up against Smith’s Milo,...

Jared Leto’s been at it again. The actor developed a reputation for extreme method acting while playing the Joker in 2016’s Suicide Squad. As was widely reported at the time, Leto harassed castmates to become the clown prince of crime, giving Margot Robbie a dead rat and showing others a bullet-riddled pig corpse. So when Leto recently described his process for playing the titular role in Morbius, readers surely raised an eyebrow.
The vampiric anti-hero first appeared in 1971’s Amazing Spider-Man #101, in a story written by Gil Kane and penciled by Gil Kane. Dr. Michael Morbius is a brilliant scientist whose attempts to cure his rare blood disease result in his developing vampire-like qualities. Dubbed “the living vampire” to avoid censure from the Comics Code Authority, Morbius uses his enhanced strength, echolocation abilities, and hypnotism to quench his thirst for blood.

Jared Leto’s upcoming “Morbius” has been bumped from its release this month and will now be released in April amid the Omicron surge, Sony Pictures announced on Monday.
Sony’s film based on a Marvel character now set to open on April 1. The film was initially set to open on Jan. 28, but has been pushed back as the record-breaking surge in Covid-19 cases fueled by the Omicron variant is expected to decrease customer confidence and interest in moviegoing in the coming weeks.
While Sony has provided a huge holiday boost for theaters with “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” which has grossed over $600 million domestically and $1.3 billion worldwide, the next two months are shaping up to be very sluggish for the box office. At the moment, the few major studio releases still set for January and February include Paramount’s “Scream” and “Jackass Forever,” which are respectively set for release on...

“If you’re going to run, do it now…” In the depths of a South American rainforest, an unusually frail-looking Jared Leto stands at the towering mouth of a sinister-looking cave, propped up by two walking sticks, his long, stringy hair draped over a green overcoat that swallows his frame. A small group of mercenaries look on nervously, edging back towards the helicopter behind them. He takes a large knife and draws it across his palm, before holding his hand up towards the hi-tech cage positioned in front of him. Something is stirring from within the darkness. But there’s a problem…
“The blood didn’t come out,” Leto says, looking off to the side. “Wanna go again?”
On any other production, that little practical-fx slip-up might have been ripe for the post-release blooper reel. But while Leto briefly breaks character to acknowledge the error, there’s no corpsing here – he remains focused,...

This Young Justice: Phantoms review contains spoilers.
Young Justice Season 4 Episode 6
It doesn’t take a lot to bring me back in, and Young Justice: Phantoms found the sweet spot this week with “Artemis Through the Looking Glass.” It turns out all they needed to do was toss me a couple of crumbs of Cassandra Cain content and everything would be better.
It helps that this week was actually animated. The story still feels rushed, but the kinetic energy of the show is back to its normal level. A huge chunk of the episode is dedicated to a fight between Black Spider (Young Justice’s Spectacular Spider-Man knockoff) and Rictus from the League of Shadows, and Tigress, Onyx, Scandal Savage, Orphan, and Cheshire on the other side. Tigress had brought in Cheshire last week to help her figure out which of Onyx and Scandal was a potential mole, and they...

Out of all of the superheroes in the Marvel universe, Spider-Man's lineup of villains and antiheroes is perhaps the most eclectic and intriguing collection of characters. Following the box office successes of Sony's Venom and Venom: Let There Be Carnage, the studio is spotlighting another notable name in Spider-Man's cinematic universe with the new trailer for Morbius ahead of its theatrical release on January 28th.
Directed by Daniel Espinosa from a screen story and screenplay by Matt Sazama & Burk Sharpless (based on the Marvel Comics character), Morbius stars Jared Leto, Matt Smith, Adria Arjona, Jared Harris, Al Madrigal, and Tyrese Gibson.
For those unfamiliar with the character, Morbius the Living Vampire, aka Dr. Michael Morbius, is a scientist who accidentally transformed himself into a bloodthirsty creature of the night. Created by Roy Thomas and Gil Kane, Morbius made his paneled page debut in Amazing Spider-Man #101.

Sony and Marvel have released a second trailer for “Morbius,” giving viewers a look into Jared Leto’s transformation as the vampire anti-hero.
Based on Roy Thomas and Gil Kane’s 1917 comic books, the latest superhero film in Sony’s Spider-Man universe follows Michael Morbius (Leto), a biochemist in search of a cure for his rare blood disease. After accidentally injecting himself with vampirism, Morbius receives bat-like powers like echo-location, flight — and of course, an insatiable thirst for blood.
In the trailer, Morbius travels to a mysterious island to cure his ailment, only to go missing for two months and return with vampire powers. There are also some connections to Sony’s fellow Spider-Man movies, including a cameo by Michael Keaton, who played Vulture in “Spider-Man: Homecoming,” and a Venom namedrop. The symbiote villain, played by Tom Hardy, teased a multiverse crossover in the post-credits scene of “Venom: Let There Be Carnage.

If ever there was a book I was guaranteed to review, it was this one. I cannot put into words how much I love the original Superman film, and the Christopher Reeve version of both Kal-El and Clark Kent. I first saw it as a young kid and was absolutely mesmerised by it. I have watched it literally hundreds of times down the years. Reviewing this book was an obvious slam dunk. Why Superman ’78 though? Those nostalgia dollars. DC have put out a few of these nostalgia fest books, Adam West’s Batman and Linda Carter’s Wonder Woman notably, and all have been hugely entertaining. There’s clearly a huge audience for these books, one of which is typing this. Superman ’78 though is the big one. The film literally changed superhero movies and DC Comics with its release,...

This week I will be taking an in depth look at some key issues from the ‘Bronze Age.’ I will be going indepth for all the ;Comics Ages’ in the future. I am starting with the Bronze because it is the era I am most familiar with as a reader and a collector. Also it is the era that is both dominating adaptations for the silver screen and inspiring this generation of comic creators. My original plan was use the Zap-Kapow (the official price guide of eBuying Comics) and talk about the 10 most highly valued issues of the Bronze Age. Five from Marvel and five from DC. But every comics website on the planet in their time has done a variation on this. So I decided to drop down some levels, still picking out key issues. But key issues that aren’t going to break the bank because of Hollywood interference…...

Actor Finn Wittrock ("American Horror Story") will play superhero 'Guy Gardner', member of the 'Green Lantern Corps’ intergalactic police force, in the upcoming HBO Max, live-action "Green Lantern" TV series, adapting the 1968 DC Comics character, created by John Broome and Gil Kane, based on 1940's All-American Comics stories by Bill Finger and Mart Nodell:
"Guy Gardner was trained to use a 'Green Lantern' power ring, which is only limited by the user's will power.
"He later acquired a 'Qwardian' power ring, revealed to be based on the bearer's control of fear.
"Trained by the 'Vuldarian Cardone', Gardner became skilled in using his abilities and practiced extensively in martial arts.
"His 'Vuldarian' powers included shapeshifting and creating weapons out of his body.
"At first, these transformations caused him pain, but he maintained his super strength, stamina, durability...

Finn Wittrock has been cast in a lead role of the upcoming “Green Lantern” series at HBO Max, Variety has learned.
Wittrock will star as Guy Gardner, who is described as a hulking mass of masculinity, and, as rendered in the comics, an embodiment of 1980s hyper-patriotism. And yet, Guy is somehow likable. Wittrock is the first actor to be cast in the show.
Based on the DC Comics property, the series show was first announced as being in development in 2019 and ordered to series last year. The story spans decades and galaxies, beginning on Earth in 1941 with the very first Green Lantern, secretly gay FBI agent Alan Scott, and 1984, with cocky alpha male Gardner and half-alien Bree Jarta. They’ll be joined by a multitude of other Lanterns — from comic book favorites to never-before-seen heroes.

Marvel Studios celebrated Simu Liu’s birthday by giving us all a present: the first trailer for Shang Chi and the Ten Rings. And there’s a lot to get excited about: a ripped Liu kicking several things; some of the best looking fight shots in the MCU to date; Awkwafina being generally delightful.
Watch it here if you haven’t already…
But buried in the middle of the trailer was a very quick flash of something fascinating:
Was that an Iron Fist?
Iron Fist and the MCU

Sony has again delayed the theatrical release of “Morbius,” the Jared Leto superhero movie that’s an offshoot of a “Spider-Man” comics character.
The movie was most recently slated for a release on March 19, but “Morbius” will now open on October 8, 2021. “Morbius” was originally scheduled for as far back as July 31 of 2020 but is one of many films that have had to shuffle on the theatrical release slate due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Leto in the film is a pseudo-vampire named Michael Morbius who has an “overpowering urge to consume blood” after he tries to cure himself of a rare blood disease, and the standalone film comes after the box office success of “Venom,” which itself is expecting a sequel later this summer.

The end of Dark Nights: Death Metal #7 is the last stop of more than a decade of Scott Snyder driving the DC metaverse’s bus. The conclusion to the Dark Nights saga, which started in 2017 with Dark Nights: Metal and ran through an entire Justice League series before concluding here, closes off storylines Snyder and his creative partner Greg Capullo seeded as far back as their first issue of Batman when the New 52 launched.

No celebration of the history of Green Lantern would be complete without acknowledging Dwayne McDuffie. McDuffie was a titan in both the comic book and animation industries before he passed in 2011, co-founding Milestone Comics and helping turn Milestone character Static into a successful, beloved Saturday morning cartoon (Static Shock), among a myriad of other accomplishments in both mediums.
But to many superhero fans, McDuffie’s most iconic work was on Justice League Unlimited, the massively popular cartoon expansion of the Batman: The Animated Series universe. In the first trailer for Marvel’s “Morbius,” Jared Leto sheds his “Joker” persona as he transforms into the vampiresque super villain.
Based on the comic books created by Roy Thomas and Gil Kane in 1971, the antagonist’s origin story follows Michael Morbius (Leto), a biochemist in search of a cure for his rare blood disease. However, he accidentally injects himself with vampirism, giving him bat-like superpowers like echo-location and an insatiable thirst for blood. “Lost in Space” co-creators Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless wrote the script.
The vengeful vampire appeared periodically throughout the Marvel franchise. He made his first appearance in a 1971 issue of “The Amazing Spider-Man,” and was eventually brought back in the 1992 series, “Morbius, the Living Vampire.” The revival produced 32 issues before ending in 1995.
Adria Arjona stars alongside Leto as the villain’s fiancee Martine Bancroft. Jared Harris, Matt Smith, and Tyrese Gibson round out the cast.

Dr. Michael Morbius isn't your grandmother's vampire. Sony's Jared Leto-led film has finally dropped its first trailer, and it's chillingly scary. The Oscar winner stars as the convoluted antihero Michael Morbius, a doctor whose illness leads him down a dark path of no return. Stricken with a rare blood disorder, Morbius desperately searches for a cure to save others from suffering a similar fate. But when he undergoes an experimental treatment that turns him into a living vampire, he discovers that "the remedy is worse than the disease."
Created by Roy Thomas and Gil Kane, Michael Morbius first appeared in 1971's The Amazing Spider-Man #101. The character joined Spider-Man's ever-rotating gang of villains before taking a turn for the antihero, similar to Sony's Venom. Out of all of the superheroes in the Marvel universe, Spider-Man's lineup of villains is perhaps the most eclectic, intriguing, and horrifying. Following the success of Sony's Venom, the studio is wasting no time developing other characters in Spider-Man's cinematic universe, and they've now officially unveiled the first teaser trailer for Morbius, including a look at the title character's vampiric transformation.
Directed by Daniel Espinosa from a screenplay by Matt Sazama & Burk Sharpless and Art Marcum & Matt Holloway (based on the Marvel Comics character), Morbius stars Jared Leto, Matt Smith, Adria Arjona, Jared Harris, Al Madrigal, and Tyrese Gibson. Executive produced by Louise Rosner and produced by Matt Tolmach, Avi Arad, and Lucas Foster, Morbius is slated for a July 31st theatrical release.
For those unfamiliar with the character, Morbius the Living Vampire, aka Dr. Michael Morbius, is a scientist who accidentally transformed himself into a bloodthirsty creature of the night.
