Spoiler Alert: This interview contains spoilers for the sixth episode of “Hacks” Season 3.
Season 3 of “Hacks” began with Ava (Hannah Einbinder) finally feeling happy in both her career and her love life, but of course, the stability didn’t last. After Ruby (Lorenza Izzo) dumps Ava for restarting her toxic working relationship with Deborah (Jean Smart), Ava badly needs a win, which she gets in the form of a hot, older rebound — until everything goes to shit yet again.
In Episode 6, “Par for the Course,” Ava accompanies Deborah to a golf tournament where they’ll schmooze with network bigwigs as they continue trying to land Deborah the late night hosting gig she’s coveted for decades. After Deborah points out that Ava isn’t as “of the people” as she thinks she is, never having worked a service industry job before, she agrees to act as Deborah’s caddy for the weekend.

One of the ways "Mad Men" makes its many dour moments more palatable is through music, from impromptu musical numbers to dinner party concerts. Who can forget Bert Cooper's song-and-dance number, or Megan Draper's French serenade of "Zou Bisou Bisou." In another memorable musical moment from the show, Joan Holloway sings in French while also wielding an accordion with uncanny skill.
It's a moment that comes as a light shock, one of the many reminders that the characters in "Mad Men" carry with them pasts we know nothing about. But actor Christina Hendricks, who plays Joan, really only needed to learn French for the scene, since she was already an adept accordion player before "Mad Men." Initially, an accordion wasn't the instrument the writers intended Joan to play, but that all changed when they found out about Hendricks' skill.

Christina Hendricks became a breakout talent and earned six Emmy Award nominations for playing Joan Holloway on the AMC period drama “Mad Men,” but she says in an interview with The Guardian that it took at least three years for buzz around the series to include its female characters in a meaningful way. Hendricks earned press from the pilot, but she said in the early seasons it mostly had to with her physical appearance and not her acting or Joan’s series arc.
“Men started dressing like Don Draper and Roger Sterling,” Hendricks said of the early popularity around “Mad Men.” “Suits came back in, skinny ties came back in. It took three to four seasons and then all of a sudden people wanted us [the female stars] on magazines. We were like: ‘This is strange — we’ve been doing this for a while.’”

Midway through Julia Reichert and Steven Bognar’s stirring documentary “9to5: The Story of a Movement,” Jane Fonda briefly appears as the film’s most famous talking head. Remembering the time they were making the hit 1980 comedy “9 to 5” inspired by various stories of workplace sexism collected from the period’s fed-up administrative women, Fonda jokingly retells one particular vivid fantasy a female clerical worker had of killing her male supervisor — apparently, an all-too-common daydream among similarly ill-treated secretaries of the time. It goes something like mincing the boss in a coffee bean grinder and making drip coffee out of him.
As hilariously out-there as this imaginary revenge scenario might sound — so over-the-top that it couldn’t be included in the Hollywood film with the iconic Dolly Parton song — it isn’t hard to empathize with this employee’s long-standing grievance deep down, thanks to all the narrative...

When Peggy Olson first started her career at Sterling Cooper, the fledgling advertising superstar was hired as Don Draper’s secretary, a gig that Joan Holloway wryly deemed “something between a mother and a waitress.” Of course, the beloved AMC series wasn’t far off — not about that, and not about a lot of things — but it’s still striking when a clip of this interaction pops up early in Steven Bognar and Julia Reichert’s “9to5: The Story of a Movement.” Following the rise of a group of female office workers who began to organize in the early ’70s, the filmmakers’ followup to their Oscar-winning “American Factory” handily lays out the specific conditions that led to this essential, if little-known chapter of American history. For many, it was being treated like Peggy: an “office wife,” an invisible “girl,” an underestimated force to be reckoned with.

It’s a poster as iconic as the movie itself, as rare a distinction then as it would be now. There aren’t too many films one can conjure an image of so clearly even 20 years later, but say the title “American Beauty” and one immediately sees a bright red rose placed diagonally across a flat stomach, held in place by a simple hand. Turns out, that hand didn’t belong to that stomach, and it isn’t just any hand — it belongs to Christina Hendricks.
The former “Mad Men” star took to Instagram to reveal that in her early days of her career she sometimes worked as a hand model, calling it a “fun fact” that she happened to book the gig for the “American Beauty” poster lo those 20 years ago.

While most of the toys in the Toy Story universe have been harmless, Toy Story 4 is returning to its Big Baby days with a sinister vintage doll named Gabby Gabby, voiced by none other than Christina Hendricks.
Hendricks began her career as a model for well over a decade. Before her big break, you may have recognized her on shows such as ER, Firefly, and Kevin Hill. But over the years, Hendricks's standout role definitely has been that of Joan Holloway on Mad Men. Her part as the formidable and omniscient '60s office manager on the AMC series garnered her a total of six Emmy nominations during her run between 2007 and 2015. Of course, her momentum on the small screen didn't end with Mad Men. Hendricks also recently appeared as Olivia Rogers on Amazon's The Romanoffs and currently stars as suburban mom-turned-criminal Beth Boland on NBC's Good Girls.

Christina Hendricks scored six Emmy noms for portraying sassy Joan Holloway in “Mad Men” and is now playing a suburban-mom-turned-supermarket-robber in NBC’s “Good Girls.” Such intrepidness extends to her wardrobe. “I’ve fallen in love with dresses with bold prints or unusual finishes and been warned I’ll be criticized,” Hendricks says. “I don’t care anymore. We need interesting and unique fashion choices on the red carpet.”
2008
“Mad Men” was the first basic-cable show nominated for (and crowned) best drama, but this didn’t equate to instant fame for its cast. “We really were the new kids to the party and nobody knew who we were,” Hendricks recalls. Hendricks worked with Tadashi Shoji on a black, long-sleeved dress that ended up redesigned as an emerald, Grecian gown she calls “the perfect green.” She topped it off with a headpiece made from a Neil Lane brooch.

Christina Hendricks is best known for playing Joan Holloway in AMC’s Mad Men, a role that earned her six Emmy Award nominations. However, since the end of the period drama in 2015, the Knoxville, Tennessee-born actor has been keen to spread her wings, and her latest role is as one of the leads in female-driven heist comedy Good Girls. In the NBC show, which was created by The Family’s Jenna Bans, she plays Beth Boland, a suburban housewife, who, along with her sister and best friend, played by Mae Whitman and Retta respectively, finds herself mixed up with gangsters after a raid on a local supermarket.
