Exclusive: Prime Video is to delve into the shocking murder of British student Meredith Kercher back in 2007.
Amazon’s streaming service has boarded The Murder of Meredith and taken UK and Ireland rights. British indie Woodcut Media is producing and distributor Abacus Media Rights has the rights elsewhere and will be selling the feature-length doc in Cannes at Mipcom.
The 90-minute doc is set to launch on Amazon in November after Abacus brokered an agreement with Amazon. It will look to reframe the narrative around the terrible events of November 1, 2007, when the 21-year-old Kercher was brutally murdered while studying in the Italian university town of Perugia
Her story led to a media frenzy full of speculation, twists and turns. Over the years, her life and reputation have been pulled apart and eclipsed by Amanda Knox, the American student and Kercher’s flatmate who was accused over her murder along with Rudy Guede and Raffaele Sollecito.

For hockey legend Terry Sawchuk, playing goal in the National Hockey League was more of a calling or destiny than a vocation, or so the new biopic, aptly named Goalie, would have you believe. Indeed, it seems that from his humble beginnings in rural Winnipeg, to winning the Stanley Cup four times – three times with the Detroit Red Wings and once with the Toronto Maple Leafs – Sawchuk was constantly plagued by a troubled past as well as the numerous injuries sustained throughout his twenty-year career, during which he played for four of the Original Six teams, until dying after a drunken fight in 1970.
In fact, the film begins with a scene depicting Sawchuk’s autopsy after the aforementioned fight. The examiner notes all of the damage that has befallen Sawchuk’s body throughout his career. It’s scene that should set the tone for the film to come. Something that...

We’ve got questions, and you’ve (maybe) got answers! With another week of TV gone by, we’re lobbing queries left and right about shows including Big Little Lies, Instinct, The Loudest Voice and Stranger Things!
1 | On Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., does it not quite track that Daisy is being so cold to Deke after being apart for more than a year? (Like, if he was never formally a part of the team, why hold it against him for moving on/exploring our world?)

A room is an enclosed space, no matter how many windows it has. It is a confinement that restricts our world while we are in it. In Room, there are many rooms that restrict the world of Ma (Brie Larson) and Jack (Jacob Tremblay) and some they may not escape…
In Room we meet Jack on his fifth birthday, living in his little world that he was born into. Trapped within the 10-by-10-foot space they are held there by Old Nick (Sean Bridgers). When Ma realises that they have to escape the room, Jack fights it, not believing that the outside world exists. When they finally escape though, they find their biggest battle is surviving a life outside the walls of Room.

Duncan Fail Rating | I’m going to say nine, because at least he didn’t put any lives in physical jeopardy this time. Professional Standards pushes up the disciplinary meeting, forcing Oliver and Andy to scramble to put together her defense and explain why her reports on Duncan are kinder than reality.

There doesn't seem to be much danger of ABC's Rookie Blue being cancelled any time soon. The show is produced in Canada and the fifth season has 22 episodes (instead of the usual 13). However, they're being split into two parts -- half will air this summer while the rest will run at a later date. This kind of move often spells the end for a series. Will there be a sixth season? Stay tuned.

Lately, we've cut down on our cat video intake. It's nothing drastic - we're down to about 12 per hour - but we had to make room. Right now, we're alternating between weeping over airline passengers receiving surprise presents at baggage claim and laughing-'til-we-cry at this cat trying to destroy his human's Christmas tree. (Yup, back to cats.) We know you've been busy picking up last-minute gifts, organizing your party cheese platter and covering your feline with wrapping paper (last cat reference, promise). Now, picking up where we left off ...
Season 4 of "Rookie Blue" wrapped up Thursday (Sept. 12) with "You Can See the Stars," the two-part season finale's conclusion handled by two of the series' executive producers and behind-the-scenes reliables, writer (and showrunner) Tassie Cameron and director David Wellington.
With their typical expertise bountifully evident, it's a very safe bet that any fan who was there to the final scene now feels Season 5 can't come soon enough.
The show really did pick up at the end of the previous chapter, with alleged pedophile Kevin Ford (Michael Cram) again knocking out his handcuffed captive: Officer Oliver Shaw (Matt Gordon), who was in the trunk of his police car, parked in a remote area.
Sam (Ben Bass) interrogated his girlfriend -- and Ford's stalker -- Marlo (Rachael Ancheril) about the last time she saw Ford, while Nick (Peter Mooney) tried to radio Oliver. Unbeknownst to him,...

As the current round of "Rookie Blue" nears its end, Officer Oliver Shaw's fate is hanging in the balance. And the actor who plays him couldn't be happier.
"He did get shot, but that was by no means as dangerous as what's happening to Oliver now," Matt Gordon tells Zap2it of the cliffhanger that's set up the ABC police drama's Season 4 finale Thursday (Sept. 12). Shaw is now the captive of Kevin Ford (Michael Cram), a suspected pedophile seeking revenge against the cops of 15 Division for his recent arrest and interrogation ... and for his stalking by Officer Marlo Cruz (Rachael Ancheril).
"It's the most I've ever done on the show," the good-humored Gordon says of the season-ending episode, which puts him through physically and emotionally grueling scenes. "You always want that stuff. Then, of course, when you spend two days in the same spot doing exactly the same thing,...

Before he could talk about any of the details, "Rookie Blue" co-star Gregory Smith said the episode he directed this season was "big."
He wasn't kidding.
"Under Fire," Thursday's (Sept. 5) intense chapter of the ABC police drama, was the first half of the show's Season 4 finale -- and though it seems a cliche to say it put most of the regular characters in the line of fire, it truly did. And no one knew that more in the opening moments than Andy and Chloe (Missy Peregrym, Priscilla Faia).
The hour began on a light note with the gang playing trivia at The Black Penny, and Chloe won. Things started veering toward the serious as Gail (Charlotte Sullivan) found Holly (Aliyah O'Brien) waiting there to meet someone else, while at home, Andy told Nick (Peter Mooney) of her ongoing guilt over having doctored Marlo's (Rachael Ancheril) police memo book at Sam's (Ben Bass) urging.

Heading into the home stretch of its fourth season, "Rookie Blue" is letting some of its cops play very close to the edge.
Marlo (Rachael Ancheril) is a prime example, especially as of Thursday's (Aug. 29) episode of the ABC police drama, "Deception." The hour opened by showing her parked across the street from the home of Kevin Ford (guest star Michael Cram), the alleged pedophile who was a suspect when Chris' (Travis Milne) supposed son disappeared in the episode "What I Lost" two weeks ago.
Marlo clearly hadn't given up pursuing him, and he caught her peering into his house -- and claiming "harassment," he said he intended to call her bosses. "Your career's over!," he shouted after her.
Elsewhere, Andy (Missy Peregrym) roused a sleeping Nick (Peter Mooney) after a night spent together. "Whatever this is," he told her of their new relationship, "I don't totally hate it." She concurred,...

Sometimes, handling one thing yields something bigger.
Such was Oliver's (Matt Gordon) fortune in mediating a neighborhood domestic dispute in the opening moments of Thursday's (Aug. 22) ABC "Rookie Blue" episode, "You Are Here." After apparently resolving the discord -- which the husband admitted could have been because he "forgot our anniversary" (whoops!) -- Oliver noticed an odd, "super-skunky" smell.
He and partner du jour Gail (Charlotte Sullivan) then uncovered a "grow-op," or as Sam (Ben Bass) put it, a house "swimming in illegal marijuana plants." And a smart-alecky young suspect named Chuck (Doug Smith) was taken into custody and turned over to Chloe (Priscilla Faia), alias -- at least for this story -- "the booking fairy."
Meanwhile, Andy (Missy Peregrym) told Nick (Peter Mooney) her concerns about feeling "sneaky" about their secretive new romance. When he offered to tell his ex Gail about it, Andy insisted on being the one...

If a character is going to return to a show, he may as well do it in a big way.
So it was for Chris (Travis Milne) in "What I Lost," Thursday's (Aug. 15) episode of ABC's "Rookie Blue." His visit to Toronto with his family initially revealed an even-more-fun side of Andy and Nick (Missy Peregrym, Peter Mooney), who played with Chris' young son Christian at a park playground, but things turned very serious very fast.
As the former undercover partners started to have a conversation about whether to embark on a personal relationship, they were distracted by a woman's cry for help after her companion collapsed. Nick and Andy ran to the rescue -- and when Andy returned, Christian was gone.
Oliver (Matt Gordon) began to lead the investigation, but Andy didn't deal well with suddenly being cast in the role of victim. And upon his arrival at the scene,...

Rarely do things run smoothly for the "Rookie Blue" cops -- even their own nuptials.
Noelle (Melanie Nicholls-King) and Frank's (Lyriq Bent) wedding wasn't exactly like clockwork in Thursday's (Aug. 8) episode of the ABC drama, "For Better, For Worse." Even with the ceremony taking place that evening, much remained in flux, prompting Andy (Missy Peregrym) to try to take the organizational lead.
Meanwhile, claiming she was getting "lying hives," Chloe (Priscilla Faia) begged Dov (Gregory Smith) to tell Frank -- her godfather and their boss -- about their off-duty relationship. It wouldn't be an easy day for Chloe in another way; she was partnered with angry-as-usual Gail (Charlotte Sullivan), whom Chloe had informed about the crush that Gail's now-ex-boyfriend Nick (Peter Mooney) had on Andy.
Andy and Nick also were partners for the day, with Andy starting it by crooning along to Extreme's "More Than Words" -- the tune she...

It certainly looked like a scene out of a horror movie, "Psycho" very specifically ... but it was just the start of Thursday's (Aug. 1) "Rookie Blue."
Aptly subtitled "Friday the 13th," the date within the latest episode of the ABC police drama, the hour opened with Chloe (Priscilla Faia) scared out of her wits by Dov (Gregory Smith) as she exited a police shower, though he simply wanted to make amends for suspecting her of being bipolar. "I can't keep up with you," she wailed about his ever-shifting feelings toward her.
A casual food-truck conversation between Andy and Sam (Missy Peregrym, Ben Bass) followed. Her: "How are you?" Him: "You know me." Her: "Sometimes yes, sometimes no." Zing! When he then suggested no one knew him better than her, she replied that maybe his current girlfriend Marlo (Rachael Ancheril) did.

Such was Sgt. Frank Best's (Lyriq Bent) greeting as he informed the other rookies of Chris' (Travis Milne) departure at the start of "Skeletons," Thursday''s (July 25) episode of ABC's "Rookie Blue." As they registered their surprise -- particularly Dov (Gregory Smith), who had done his best to change Chris' mind -- Best added, "People come, people go, so you might as well get used to it."
Indeed: ABC's press information already confirms Diaz will be a big part of the Aug. 15 episode. Meanwhile, another familiar face returned to 15 Division as Detective Luke Callaghan's (Eric Johnson) reappeared to help direct a kidnapping investigation, one with huge reverberations for the cops.
The apparent victim had been taken in a cab registered to Ross Perik (Ben Carlson), last season's perp who kidnapped Gail (Charlotte Sullivan) and fatally stabbed her would-be rescuer,...

Ok, rookies: Break's over. Back to business.
The cops of "Rookie Blue" immediatey proved they knew that, since they were immersed in a paintball "war" in the opening moments of Thursday's (June 27) episode "Different, Not Better" -- with the Bee Gees' "Stayin' Alive" on the soundtrack! -- as the ABC police drama resumed Season 4, following a three-week hiatus for NBA Finals coverage.
No surprise, ever-spirited Andy McNally (Missy Peregrym) led her team to the win, triumphing over her recent undercover partner Nick Collins (Peter Mooney) ... which had to hurt him, his being a trained war veteran and all. Then it was on to the main case of the week, the hunt for a robber of Atm customers who always left them with a $20, and also left something else: a view of his derriere's tattoo, proudly displayed to a surveillance camera.
The pursuit offered a bigger introduction to lively, instinctive...

"You're Andy McNally. You don't give up."
You said it, Oliver Shaw (Matt Gordon) ... and his fellow cop McNally (Missy Peregrym) proved it several times over Thursday (May 30) as ABC's "Rookie Blue" aired episode 2 of Season 4, "Homecoming." And the story, respectively written and directed by series veterans Russ Cochrane and David Wellington, reaffirmed that the show continually succeeds by being as much (if not more) about the regular characters as the given week's crime.
On her first day back on the job after the undercover mission that took her and Nick Collins (Peter Mooney) away from 15 Division for several months, Andy wasted no time getting back into literal action. Spared by Oliver's quick intervention from having to ride with Marlo Cruz (Rachael Ancheril) -- the new flame of Andy's ex, Sam Swarek (Ben Bass) -- Andy sensed trouble upon seeing someone flee from a bank.
Of course, she was correct: robbery in progress.

The rookie cops of Division 15 may have more experience now, but they still can land in a heapin' helpin' of trouble.
Thursday's (May 23) Season 4 opener of ABC's "Rookie Blue," titled "Surprises," demonstrated that amply. For starters, there was the expected front-and-center story of Officers Andy McNally and Nick Collins (Missy Peregym, Peter Mooney).
Right off the bat, they were seen immersed six months later in the undercover operation they left everything and everyone behind for -- including their respective, fellow badge-wearing loves Sam Swarek and Gail Peck (Ben Bass, Charlotte Sullivan) -- at the end of Season 3.
That case would be closed in the first hour of Season 4, but not before a new bond between Andy and Nick made itself known ("It hasn't all been bad," he said as their job was winding down, met by her warm smile). And not before each of them took some blows, quite literally.

Even after three years on the beat, rookie cops still can have a lot to learn.
That's evident right from the start of Season 4 of "Rookie Blue," the Canadian-made drama that's now a well-rated summer programming mainstay for ABC. The show resumes Thursday, May 23, with what was set up by the previous round's last scene: Officers Andy McNally and Nick Collins (Missy Peregrym, Peter Mooney) are in the thick of the dangerous meth-related sting operation they've gone deep under cover for.
The loves they left behind, Sam Swarek and Gail Peck (Ben Bass, Charlotte Sullivan), and other colleagues from 15 Division search for them when they suddenly fall off the radar. Dov Epstein, Traci Nash, Chris Diaz, Oliver Shaw and Sgt. Frank Best (Gregory Smith, Enuka Okuma, Travis Milne, Matt Gordon, Lyriq Bent) also are back and in on the hunt, joined by new training officer Marlo Cruz (Rachael Ancheril). Rookie...

With Andy's mom "Coming Home" on last week's Rookie Blue, our Round Table team is here to answer such pressing questions as:
Was Sam right to be wary of Claire? Was Jerry being too hard on Traci? And what's going on with Dov?
Join TV Fanatic's Christine Orlando, along with Nathalie, Kathryn and Cythy of the Rookie Blue fan forum Two Worlds Collide, for those answers and a lot more in this week's edition of the feature.

What was your favorite scene?
Nathalie: Right at the end, during the party, when Andy goes to her mother and says "Mom" instead of "Claire" like she did at the beginning. I'm so happy for her I hope her mother doesn't screw this up twice.

Amazon has a smartphone in the works that would provide competition to Apple's iPhone and other devices, Bloomberg News reports. Citing sources, Bloomberg said Amazon was partnering on the device with Chinese company Foxconn International Holdings, which manufactures mobile phones. It is also seeking to acquire patents for wireless technology as a protection against infringement lawsuits. A smartphone would help Amazon, whose business strategy hinges on digital sales of books, movies and songs, compete in the territory of Apple and other rivals with affordable, wildly popular devices. Festival initiative “U.S. in Progress” introduces four U.S. productions in post-production to European buyers.
American Independent films, French Independent Films and Oscar Nominated Foreign Language Films will be showcased.
The Weinstein Company’s Harvey Weinstein wil receive a tribute and will host a retrospective of his films.
Donald Sutherland will host a screening of Klute and will receive a Medal of Arts and Letters bestowed by Frederic Mitterrand.
The Champs Elysees Film Festival’s U.S. President is Michael Madsen
The French Festival President is Lambert Wilson
The discussions held so often about the sustainability of arthouse theaters, about the joining of forces between them and festivals and the ownership of festivals themselves, and sometimes of theaters as well, by distributors as a way to sustain the three key players of this precious triangle of culture, continue as the first Champs Elysees Film Festival presents a jam-packed line up and full program of events at its inaugural edition.
The seven day festival, June 6-12, has been formed and is owned by the independent distributor Sophie Dulac. It is exciting for me to go to see the arthouses we have already written about in the area of the Champs Elysees - the Balzac, its rival the Lincoln, the Publicis, and the two major chains, Gaumont Champs Elysees and Ugc George V. Another interesting aspect of this upcoming event is the festival's ownership by a French distributor, Sophie Dulac. This is one of two similarities between Gutek and Dulac. The New Horizons and the American Film Festivals are owned by Roman Gutek whose distribution company Gutek is the largest arthouse distributor in Poland. Similarly Sophie Dulac seems to "own" this festival. Somewhat analagous to this is the "owning" of distribution company Tribeca Films by the Tribeca Film Festival or the Sundance Select Distribution arm owned by the Sundance Film Festival. The New York Film Festival and the Toronto International Film Festivals have yet to declare themselves distributors but do own the arthouses in which to show "their" films year round in festival settings.
Dulac explains the impetus to launch the Champs Elysees Film Festival, “As Paris’ first truly international film festival, our mission is to create a bridge between the independent American and French film industries. In the most beautiful city in the world and one with a worldwide association to cinema, the Champs Elysées Film Festival will be a celebration of film promoting the work of young filmmakers and honoring the work of established directors.” She adds, “We want to throw a spotlight on independent film from France and the U.S. We will welcome famous names, offer new films, open up discussions between members of the film industry, give short films a special showcase and invite audiences to gala previews.”
I personally hope the tourists of Champs Elysees see this as a special opportunity to share inside festival experiences with international professionals and that it brings in more business than ordinary theatrical fare brings to the same theaters, thus proving that festivals serve as a new branch of film distribution and that the joining of forces between distributor, exhibitor and festival point toward a new mode of profitability for all parties.
U.S. in Progress was first presented at the American Film Festival in Wroclaw Poland in November. This is the second similarity between Dulac and Gutek. U.S. in Progress will now be here as well. U.S. in Progress is in fact a joint initiative between the American Film Festival in Wroclaw, the Champs Elysees Film Festival in Paris and Black Rabbit Film, a company of Adeline Monzier who also created the association of European indie distributors called EuropaDistribution. It is the first and only industry event devoted to U.S. indies in Europe. Its aim is to present U.S. indie films in post-production to European buyers in order to foster the circulation and distribution of American indie films in Europe. This presentation of American independent films in post-production to European buyers to promote the distribution of American independent films in Europe is uniquely one of the top new developments in the industry. The program works to forge inroads between the generation of talented American filmmakers emerging today and European buyers. I am so proud to be serving on its jury as I did on the first edition as well.
The other sections are: Official Selection of American Independent Films, French Galas, American Galas, Oscar Nominated Foreign Language Films and Shorts. A tribute to Harvey Weinstein will be presented on June 6 at an event to celebrate his career. Weinstein will participate in a roundtable conversation to discuss French/American co-productions and a Retrospective of 11 of his films will be shown throughout the week.
The American independent films selected as part of the inaugural program include Richard Linklater’s Bernie (Isa: Hyde Park, U.S.: Millennium) with Jack Black, Shirley Maclaine and Matthew McConaughey; Jesus Henry Christ (Isa: Im Global, U.S. E1) with Toni Collette and Michael Sheen; Bruce Beresford’s Peace, Love & Misunderstanding (Isa: Voltage, U.S. IFC) starring Jane Fonda, Catherine Keener and Elizabeth Olsen and Marina Abramovic: The Artist is Present (Isa: Submarine, U.S. Music Box). An Audience Award will be given out to the most popular American Independent. American Galas include Jennifer Westfeldt’s Friends with Kids (Isa: Red Granite, U.S. Roadside Attractions/ Lionsgate) and Wes Craven’s My Soul to Take (2010) in 3D.
French films include Comme Un Homme (Isa: Memento) directed by Safy Nebbou; Journal de France (Isa: Wild Bunch) directed by Claudine Nougaret and Raymond Depardon; Vous n'avez encore rien vu (Isa: Studiocanal) directed by Alain Resnais and Wrong (Isa: Kinology) helmed by Quentin Dupieux.
The Champs Elysees Film Festival has selected esteemed French Actor Lambert Wilson for the role of French President and Michael Madsen has accepted the role of the Festival’s U.S. President.
The festival will pay tribute to the actor Donald Sutherland who will be at the Festival to host a screening of the masterpiece Klute directed by Alan J. Pakula followed by a “Hollywood Conversation” with the iconic actor. Frederic Mitterrand will bestow Sutherland with the medal of Commander of Arts and Letters that evening.

Missy Peregrym, who plays the idealist Officer Andy McNally on the hit show "Rookie Blue," is joking around with her co-star Matt Gordon (Oliver Shaw) on a rare day off. The cast of everybody's favorite summer cop drama is so tight-knit, they actually want to hang out together when they're not shooting.
This season, the affable cast welcomes a new rookie into its fold: Peter Mooney ("Camelot"), who plays Nick Collins, a newly-minted cop with an army background. Nick isn't the only new cast member shaking up the group -- this season also marks the introduction of Andy's estranged mother (Barbara Williams) as well as a guest spot by William Shatner.
With Season 3 set to premiere this week, we grilled Peregrym about everything there is to know about the Sam (Ben Bass) & Andy saga, Andy's suspension and how the new rookie fits into everything. She was pretty tight-lipped, but we...

Global, a Canadian TV network, will renew Rookie Blue, a dramatic series about five rookie cops, for a third season.
This decision was jointly made with ABC, the American TV network that airs Rookie Blue. The renewal was announced because this Canadian TV series is a success both in Canada and the USA in terms of ratings.
Broadcasted on Thursday, Rookie Blue is the most watched show of that day in Canada with more than one million viewers. At the South of the 49th parallel, this Canadian TV series is the most watched series on Thursday nights among American viewers aged between 18 and 49 years old.
As in the first season, the second season still follows five rookies from the police department of a unnamed city that epically fails to pass off for an American city. The story is centred on one of these rookies, the lovely Andy McNally (Missy Peregrym...

This site is such a great way for TV fans to connect with one another I thought I would write about my favourite show- Rookie Blue. For those of you not familiar with the show it's a Canadian creation airing on ABC in the States & Global TV in Canada. It follows the training period (which can be as long as five years) of five new police recruits or 'rookies' as they find their feet in 'fifteen division' in Toronto. The summer is now fully here, and with it comes a new batch of summer TV shows –now that networks and cable alike have switched to a varied, year-round schedule that confuses even the professionals in the industry. Among them there are vampires, cops, families trying to fit in and many, many secrets. Of these new summer offerings, almost all of them have already aired –the only exception is Showtime’s The Big C, a show about cancer with Laura Linney that arrives August 16); some have even aired several episodes, so they can barely be called “new”, and some of their plots might have evolved. But I have tried to watch all those series’ pilots to find out what is good, what is bad, what is promising and what might stay or leave soon. Here it is:
