The Dracula-inspired horror film The Invitation (formerly known as The Bride) is now in theatres, and just opened at #1 at the domestic box office with a weekend haul of 7 million. Our own Chris Bumbray was surprised at how bloody the film was for something with a PG-13 rating, and he mentioned that to director Jessica M. Thompson (The Light of the Moon) during an interview – which you can watch in the video embed above. Thompson said they had to darken the blood to get by with a PG-13… but during an interview with our friends at Bloody Disgusting, she also said that there is an R-rated cut of The Invitation that’s going to get a streaming release!
Thompson said,
I’m someone who thinks you lose the tension as soon as you reveal your monster. I feel like the longer you can hold it off, the better. So there...

Screenwriter Matt Lopez has signed with CAA for representation just ahead of the premiere of his adaptation of “Father of the Bride” for HBO Max. The new movie, starring Andy Garcia as the titular father, Gloria Estefan, Adria Arjona, and Isabela Merced, will debut on June 16, timed to Father’s Day Weekend.
Lopez also penned the script for another upcoming adaptation — this time, Walt Disney Studios’ “Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day” movie, with 21 Laps and the Jim Henson Company producing. Like “Father of the Bride,” the new movie will reportedly center a Latino family’s story. In 2020, Netflix acquired the rights to his spec feature script “Wraith,” based on the novel “Cyberstorm” by Matthew Mather. Sebastian Hoffman is set to direct that project, which is produced by Emile Gladstone.

Actress Linda Cardellini, who plays the role of the mother who goes up against La Llorana in The Curse Of The Weeping Woman, says she couldn't resist the complex hero at the heart of the horror film. That's the reason she said yes to the project.?
"When I read the script, I loved that it was not about being someone's wife or being someone's sister. It's really about this woman who is fighting the odds to keep her family together, and the lengths she's willing to go to protect her children," Cardellini said in a statement.
"I loved that we experience this story through her eyes. And, to be honest, the idea of being in a full-on horror movie was also kind of exciting," she added.?

La Llorona. The Weeping Woman. A horrifying apparition, caught between Heaven and Hell, trapped in a terrible fate sealed by her own hand. The mere mention of her name has struck terror around the world for generations.
In life, she drowned her children in a jealous rage, throwing herself in the churning river after them as she wept in pain.
Now her tears are eternal. They are lethal, and those who hear her death call in the night are doomed. La Llorona creeps in the shadows and preys on the children, desperate to replace her own. As the centuries have passed, her desire has grown more voracious … and her methods more terrifying.
In 1970s Los Angeles, La Llorona is stalking the night—and the children.
Ignoring the eerie warning of a troubled mother suspected of child endangerment, a social worker and her own small kids are soon drawn into a frightening supernatural realm.

The first trailer for Michael Chaves’ directorial debut, “The Curse of La Llorona,” has dropped — and it’s terrifying.
The trailer starts with a sort of ceremony where sage is burned around a woman. Linda Cardellini’s character interrupts the ceremony, and later in the night, she witnesses a crime scene that has taken the lives of many. The same woman from earlier tells her, “It’s your fault! I tried to stop her!”
La Llorona, or The Weeping Woman, is an apparition caught between Heaven and Hell after she drowned her children and threw herself into a river and wept in pain. Now, her tears are forever, which is how she got her name. And in “The Curse of La Llorona,” she haunts the night and the children in 1970s Los Angeles.

One of the most chilling stories in Mexican folklore is that of La Llorona, or the Weeping Woman. According to legend, La Llorona was a beautiful woman who drowned her own children after being distraught over the sight of her estranged husband with a new wife. After seeing her children’s bodies in the river, La Llorona realized the weight of her actions and threw herself in after them.
La Llorona now eternally searches for her children, looking for other lost children to make her own. If you hear her cries in the night, you are doomed.
“The Curse of La Llorona” transports the Mexican legend to 1970s Los Angeles, where a social worker and her children are pulled into her web after ignoring the warning of a troubled mother suspected of child endangerment. Their only hope at defeating La Llorona is a disillusioned priest and the mysticism he practices to keep evil at bay.

There are many urban legends and stories about ghosts, ghouls and supernatural beings from all cultures, but there is something extra terrifying about the Mexican fable of La Llorona (aka The Weeping Woman). As they say in the debut trailer for the New Line Cinema horror The Curse of La Llorona: “It’s a folktale…to some.”
During Comic-Con in July, New Line gave a generous preview of the horror pic during their ScareDiego event and the new trailer builds on the terror. The fable of La Llorona is about a horrifying apparition of a woman who is caught between heaven and hell. She sealed her own fate when she drowned her children in a jealous rage. After drowning her children, she threw herself in the river after them and wept in pain — now her tears are eternal (hence the name Weeping Woman). Now, she stalks the night looking...

After an eight-month stint, Emile Gladstone is leaving Chris Morgan Productions. Gladstone had been Morgan’s long-time agent when he left ICM Partners last summer to partner with his client at Chris Morgan Productions, running the company’s film and TV divisions. Gladstone will now return to representation, launching a management/production company with Morgan as a client. I hear Gladstone never felt comfortable in the new setting, feeling he was better suited for working with multiple clients. Through his company, Gladstone will continue to work on the film and TV projects he and Morgan have in various stages. Cmp has a first look feature deal at Universal, where Morgan has written the last five films in the Fast And The Furious franchise, and a first-look TV deal through 20th Television, where the company has the upcoming series Gang Related.

What's cooler than Nazi zombies? Few things, really, but Nazis fighting Ally werewolves is pretty damned close. Speaking of which, Universal is ready to start howling again with the film rights to the Robert McCammon novel The Wolf’s Hour.
According to Deadline, Universal Pictures has acquired the novel for Chris Morgan and Emile Gladstone to produce through their Universal-based Chris Morgan Productions banner. While Universal has done several werewolf films since launching the classic from its original movie monster library, this is a different take on the legend, and it comes with a screenplay.
