The Black Keys recently embarked on their European tour, and upon arriving in London for the first of three nights at the O2 Academy Brixton, the duo were joined onstage by Noel Gallagher, one of the collaborators on their new album Ohio Players.
The former Oasis guitarist appears on three tracks on the Black Keys’ guest-heavy LP, and during the encore at Tuesday’s show, came out to perform two of those tracks with the band live for the first time: “Only Love Matters” and “On the Game.”

Look around and you just may find yourself amid a Pet Shop Boys renaissance.
Of course, the English duo — consisting of Neil Tennant, 69, and Chris Lowe, 64 — never went anywhere. They have been steadily putting out music since their landmark 1984 debut, Please, which instantly established them with timeless songs like “West End Girls” and “Opportunities (Let’s Make Lots of Money).”
But Pet Shop Boys’ deep catalog has been plundered in recent years everywhere from Madison Avenue (“Opportunities” showed up in a Super Bowl ad for Allstate) to Hollywood (several classics were used to wonderful effect in two of last year’s zeitgeistiest movies, Saltburn and All of Us Strangers). Their signature sound is suddenly everywhere — wistful and longing, danceable and intellectually sophisticated synth-pop. Their 15th studio effort, Nonetheless, drops tomorrow and features more of that infectious trademark music.

Jack O’Connell may be about to be seen on screen in the Amy Winehouse biopic “Back to Black,” but the actor has also stepped behind the camera to shoot a video for another U.K. music icon, Paul Weller.
The Brit — who stars as Winehouse’s ex-husband Blake Fielder-Civil in Sam Taylor-Johnson’s feature alongside Marisa Abela as the late, legendary singer — has made his directorial debut with the music video for “Nothing,” a track set to be part of Weller’s new album “66,” releasing in May.
“It was a good stroke of fortune,” O’Connell tells Variety. “Paul’s been a mate for a while and he’s got a bunch of new music coming out. He asked me to be in [a video] and I said, ‘Can I direct it instead?’ He obliged. And now we’ve edited it and cut it together.”

Even during their early 2010s commercial peak, when outside producers, pop-funk influences, and expanded instrumentation transformed them into a genuine mainstream act, the Black Keys’s songs were still full of empty space. Listening to “Tighten Up” or “Lonely Boy” today, it’s striking how spare they sound. They’re slick but not overproduced. There’s not a single extraneous element, enabling the hooks to hammer home with maximum efficiency and giving the songs’ indelible grooves plenty of room to breathe.
The same can’t be said for the band’s 12th studio album, Ohio Players, which is so overstuffed with guest musicians that Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney are often swallowed whole. For the most part, this isn’t an issue of principle so much as practical listenability. While a large ensemble approach is certainly compatible with the album’s funk, hip-hop, and R&b-inflected stylings, the mixing and...

Few things are as synonymous with rebellious, raucous, no-good rock ‘n’ roll as finishing a set by smashing a guitar — be it Kurt Cobain, Phoebe Bridgers, or Pete Townshend. When it comes to the latter, however, bandmate and The Who frontman Roger Daltrey might not have the same drive to use his axe like… well, an axe. In fact, Daltrey has compared smashing a guitar to breaking the neck of something (or someone) else he holds close to his heart: his wife.
During his recent appearance on Shaun Keaveny’s Daily Grind podcast, Daltrey described the one time he engaged in such destruction, as well as the guilt that followed. “The trouble is the guitar was worth 50 gigs,” Daltrey said. “I’ve only ever smashed one guitar and I’m really sorry I did it.”
To illustrate just how deep his feelings of shame ran, Daltrey turned to the surprisingly violent analogy.

At least some of the Backstreet Boys’ songs have the timeless quality of The Beatles‘ songs. The writer of many Backstreet Boys tunes said he drew influence from The Beatles to write a very odd line. While the lyric might raise eyebrows, it certainly worked out for the Backstreet Boys.
A Backstreet Boys song was inspired by perceived gibberish from The Beatles
Max Martin is a Swedish songwriter who penned hits for the Backstreet Boys (“I Want It That Way”), Britney Spears, Ariana Grande “(“Break Free”), Taylor Swift (“Shake It Off”), and numerous other singers. He co-wrote and co-produced the Backstreet Boys’ “Shape of My Heart.” That tune includes the oddball lyrics “Sadness is beautiful/ Loneliness is tragical.”
During a 2019 interview with The Telegraph, Martin explained why he sometimes coins new words in his songs. “I grew up on Elton John and The Beatles and I had no idea what they were saying,...

Liam Gallagher is being, well, very Liam Gallagher when it comes to Oasis’ nomination for the Rock Hall’s class of 2024. In other words, he did a take-down of the institution with his usual dry wit and candor via social media.
“Fuck the Rock n Roll hall of fame its full of Bumbaclarts,” he posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, after the nominees were announced Saturday. In a series of posts between fans who responded to his quip, he berated the hall, saying, “there’s something very fishy about those awards,...

John Lennon‘s “Imagine” is the most famous song by a former Beatle. Paul McCartney has covered countless songs over the years and yet he never put his spin on “Imagine.” He once explained why he didn’t want to cover “Imagine.” Love or hate his decision, his reasoning makes a lot of sense given the song’s lasting cultural impact.
Paul McCartney felt that everyone sings John Lennon’s ‘Imagine’
During a 1990 interview with Rolling Stone, Paul discussed one of his aborted ideas. “In fact, I considered doing a major tribute to John,” he said. “But it suddenly felt too precious, too showbiz. I was going to have a whacking great picture of John and just say, ‘He was my friend.’ Which was true. I’m totally proud to have worked with him.
Outsiders wanted Paul to sing John’s most famous solo tune. “But then people started saying,...

The Black Keys are ready for Valentine’s Day (or, more accurately, the Day After Valentine’s Day) with their cover of William Bell’s “I Forgot to Be Your Lover.” The two-and-a-half–minute apology recreates the song faithfully (and “faithful” goes a long way, as the Keys’ lovers will remind them), evoking the soulful regret Bell originally sang for recognizing he had become an inattentive, self-absorbed oaf.
The song finds Dan Auerbach plucking doleful chords and crooning through orchestral strings words like “Oh, I forgot to be your lover/And I’m sorry,...

The Black Keys are back with “I Forgot to Be Your Lover,” the latest single from their forthcoming new album, Ohio Players.
Written by William Bell and Booker T. Jones — and first released by Bell as a single in 1968 — “I Forgot to Be Your Lover” is an ideal song for The Black Keys treatment, giving the duo an opportunity to show off their knack for mid-tempo, bluesy soul. Built around a foundation of guitars and a classic Patrick Carney groove, the arrangement is garnished with organ padding and silky strings.
With a sultry touch, the impassioned cover arrives, as the band’s posts on social media explain, “just in time for Valentines.” Watch the official lyric video below.
Following the release of “Beautiful People (Stay High)” last month, “I Forgot to Be Your Lover” is the second single from Ohio Players, which itself is set to arrive on April 5th via Nonesuch/Warner Records.

Singer-songwriter Liam Gallagher has spoken about the moment that his brother, Noel Gallagher, quit Oasis and the events that led up to that point and how he felt once Noel had walked out on the band.
The 51-year-old singer-songwriter said that his “world caved in” after the bust-up which Noel, 56, claims was the catalyst for him leaving, though Liam has disputed what happened and that he was the reason why Noel couldn’t perform as part of Oasis any more, reports Mirror.co.uk.
The band, which was formed in the 1990s, came to an end after Noel and Liam clashed backstage at the Rock-en-Seine festival in Paris, during 2009, which the elder brother has pinned squarely on the shoulders of his younger sibling but Liam has now challenged the reasons for him quitting, saying that his behaviour hadn’t changed during their time together in the band.

The Black Keys are coming back with a new album titled Ohio Players, an LP heralded as the duo’s most collaborative to date.
Ahead of Ohio Players’ April 5 release, Patrick Carney and Dan Auerbach have shared their first single, “Beautiful People (Stay High),” which they co-wrote with Beck and Dan “The Automator” Nakamura.
“We had this epiphany: ‘We can call our friends to help us make music.’ It’s funny because we both write songs with other people – Dan all the time [as a solo artist and producer], me when I’m producing a record.

Noted Ohioans The Black Keys have announced their 12th studio album, Ohio Players, which comes out April 5th via Nonesuch Records. Its lead single, “Beautiful People (Stay High),” is streaming now.
The follow-up to 2022’s Dropout Boogie, Ohio Players boasts an impressive list of collaborators. Among the guest stars are Noel Gallagher, Greg Kurstin, Dan “The Automator” Nakamura, and Beck, the latter two of whom co-wrote “Beautiful People (Stay High)” along with The Black Keys’ Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney. Pre-orders for the album are ongoing.
Backed by rollicking drums and a rock ‘n’ roll piano, “Beautiful People” is a soulful ode to hedonism with a chorus that gleefully proclaims: “All of those beautiful people stay high.” Its accompanying lyric video feels straight out of the 1960s, playing to the song’s retro vibe with grainy, black-and-white footage and plenty of mid-century digs.

Music legend Noel Gallagher is set to return to the studio to make his next solo album.
The former Oasis frontman, 56, narrowly missed the number 1 spot with his fourth High Flying Birds record ‘Council Skies’ in June, but will be hoping to land the top spot with his latest effort.
Noel has shared that he’s going to start recording the New Year after banking enough tunes to fill two albums, reports Female First UK.
The singer was quoted in The Sun saying: “I’ve had to stop writing because I need to get these songs recorded and get them out there so I can write some more.
“In the pandemic there was nothing to do all day so I just wrote songs. There’s another two albums-worth of material there. I think I’m going to be back in the studio in January, so we’ll see where it goes from there.

The Beatles‘ “Tomorrow Never Knows” was a big influence on The Chemical Brothers. One rock star discussed watching The Chemical Brothers work “Tomorrow Never Knows” into one of their electronic dance music sets. The Chemical Brothers also released a tune that sounds a lot like the Fab Four’s track.

Liam Gallagher might be going solo on the upcoming “Definitely Maybe 30 Years Tour,” but not for lack of trying. Apparently, his brother and bandmate Noel Gallagher “refused” an opportunity to properly reunite Oasis for a series of live shows commemorating the group’s debut album.
This isn’t groundbreaking news, of course, given that the Gallaghers just won’t squash their beef. But some fans were holding on to a glimmer of hope that Definitely Maybe just might do the trick: “Are you going to give us the surprise that Noel is going to join the Dm tour or not, Liam?” one fan asked on Twitter. Liam responded: “He’s been asked and he’s refused.”
Liam’s word choice there seems deliberate — nowhere did he mention that he personally reached out to his brother about the tour. Either way, it slightly contradicts some claims Noel made earlier this year...

Noel Gallagher reflected on the era leading up to Oasis’ 1994 debut album Definitely Maybe while dismissing the band’s Britpop contemporaries like Blur, Pulp, and The Stone Roses in a new interview via Mojo.
“We always had unshakable self-belief in Oasis,” the former guitarist-vocalist began. “Everybody who heard the demos of what would become Definitely Maybe were freaking out, so we just wanted to seize the moment. We’d been talking the talk amongst ourselves for a couple of years and when it came down to it, we were ready. Every minute I spent awake, I just knew it was going to happen.”
Gallagher likened the album’s rollout to “being in a rocket ship that was taking off,” then switched to a different high-octane analogy: “Before Definitely Maybe came out, our singles had put us in pole position in the Grand Prix. We had the best car, were the best drivers,...

“We were doing one song of mine, which was ‘Columbia,’ but it was instrumental,” recalled the guitarist, who joined the band in the early Nineties. “We’ve got a gig on Tuesday, and it suddenly dawns on...

Future Islands are back with a new song called “Deep in the Night.” Listen to the single below.
The Maryland band have always had a grandiose quality to their music, but “Deep in the Night” feels especially cinematic. The track moves slow with bellowing percussion and sparkling synths as the inimitable Samuel Herring sings about missing a lover. “I’m like a prowling lion that’s seeking pride,” he croons, before admitting, “I belong to you.”
The track marks Future Islands’ first release since their 2020 album As Long as You Are — apart from a 2022 cover of Wham!’s “Last Christmas,” and a Herring appearance on billy woods’ April track “FaceTime.” Soon, the singer will make his acting debut in the Apple TV+ drama series The Changeling, premiering September 8th.
Later this month, the band will embark on a UK and European tour that includes a set at Manchester’s Wythenshawe...

Los Angeles, July 31 (Ians) Oasis rocker Noel Gallagher explained how a drunken misjudgement whilst brushing his teeth before bed led to him getting a black eye and gash to the head.

Noel Gallagher Calls Adele’s Singing ‘Offensive’ & ‘Awful,’ Says Sam Smith Is ‘Biggest Idiot Around’
Former Oasis founder Noel Gallagher slammed Adele’s singing, comparing her to 60s singer Cilla Black while describing her music as “offensive” and “f—ing awful.”
Gallagher has been known to sound off on other singers, including Harry Styles, Sam Smith and Damon Albarn.
When Gallagher was asked if he was a fan of Adele and her songs, he replied, “F— off, f—ing hell. Name one? They’re f—ing s—. It’s f—ing awful. It’s f—ing Cilla Black. I find it and that whole thing offensive.”
Noel admitted that he believes the only way Adele will improve is if she performs one of the songs he’s written.
“If I fall out of love with touring, I could see myself just sitting at home writing songs and sending them to my publishers. I might in the future,” Gallagher said on the Matt Morgan podcast. “I’ll be saying,...
