Chicago – Bill Murray is a son of Chicagoland, born and raised in the area and beginning his career at The Second City. To honor his friend and collaborator Harold Ramis, Murray made an appearance on February 2nd, 2024, on Chicago’s Navy Pier on behalf of Harold Ramis Day and of course his classic film “Groundhog Day.”

Chicago – It was a special February 2nd, 2024, in Chicago. Not only was it the quasi-midwinter holiday Groundhog Day, but cast members of the 1993 classic film “Groundhog Day” – including Bill Murray, his brother Brian Doyle Murray and others – made appearances on the famous Navy Pier to honor the late director of the film, Harold Ramis. From this year forward, February 2nd will be Harold Ramis Day in Chicago.
The beloved film tells the story of Phil (Bill Murray), a Pittsburgh weatherman who is assigned with Producer Rita (Andie MacDowell) and Cameraman Larry (Chris Elliott) to cover the Groundhog Day ceremony in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania (Brian Doyle Murray portrays city official Buster Green). When a snowstorm strands them in the small town, Phil wakes up to find out its February 2nd yet again. He is now stuck in a time loop,...

Ok, campers, rise and shine and don’t forget your booties ’cause it’s cold out there today. It’s cold out there every day! But this isn’t Miami Beach and it’s not even Punxsutawney. Heck, it’s not even Woodstock, Illinois, where Groundhog Day was shot. No, it’s Chicago, the location of a celebration not only of the 1993 comedy but also the life of director Harold Ramis.
Today, February 2nd, of course marks Groundhog Day, when thousands of people gather to freeze their butts off and worship a rat. But for many of us today is more about the movie. And that’s just what will be commemorated at Chicago’s Navy Pier when a selection of the cast gathers to remember Groundhog Day and Ramis, who passed away in February 2014.

It is news to no one that Schitt’s Creek is an absolute delight. It is one of the most good natured, sweet, funny, clever, progressive shows around, as anyone who has watched Schitt’s Creek will tell anyone who hasn’t watched Schitt’s Creek, over and over and over again…
The story of the Rose family who lose their wealth and end up moving to a motel in the town Johnny Rose (Eugene Levy) once bought for his son David (Dan Levy) as a joke, it’s a fish-out-of water class-clash comedy to warm the cockles over its six seasons.
The eccentric Rose family (including the amazing Catherine O’Hara as Moira and wonderful Annie Murphy as Alexis), might be the stars but the residents of Schitt’s Creek are perhaps the heart.

Abby Elliott has come a long way since her "Saturday Night Live" days. Since leaving the sketch comedy series in 2012, Abby has landed the sitcoms "Odd Mom Out" and "Indebted," as well as films like "Sex Ed" and "Better Off Single." Currently, she stars in the award-winning series "The Bear." In the show, Abby plays Natalie "Sugar" Berzatto, who is the coowner of The Beef restaurant. "It's really exciting to be a part of something that has touched so many people," Abby said about her involvement on the show during an August 2022 episode of "The Last Laugh" podcast. "[It's the first time I've been a] part of a project that people have really responded to in this sort of way."

Creating timeless comedies is a truly remarkable accomplishment for filmmakers. It’s no secret that all movie genres have the potential to age poorly, but comedy, especially, has an expiration date due to its contextual and individualistic nature. What’s funny today might not make sense in the future, and what tickles some people may leave others cold.
When it comes to picking the best comedy movies of all time, durability must be taken into account. How well does this film hold up now? Will it still be hilarious years from now?
After intense research, we’ve found the ten highest-rated comedy films that represent laugh-out-loud hilarity and will stand the test of time. We can’t guarantee these will elicit uproarious laughter from everyone – then again, if they don’t…maybe you should take a step back and reassess your comedic sensibilities – or at least vote for your favorite comedy on IMDb.

There’s an interpretation of the beloved comedy Schitt’s Creek wherein the town of Schitt’s Creek is actually Purgatory — a metaphysical proving ground in which the Rose family faces a series of banal and repetitive tasks meant to test their respective souls and determine whether or not they’re worthy of salvation.
It’s not a perfect interpretation: There’s maybe a little more coming and going from Schitt’s Creek than behooves the theory; plus when you open a theological door to ponder whether, in this scenario, Chris Elliott’s Roland is God or something, nobody is likely to be satisfied. But for approximately 90 percent of the show, you can absolutely accept Schitt’s Creek as limbo. If you choose to.
The truth, though, is that some shows are designed to be treated as allegory and other shows are designed to resist allegorical readings — to be ongoing, slice-of-life shows, treated literally if not seriously.

Rick “Shecky” Scheckman, who for more than 30 years came up with oddball footage for David Letterman’s late-night programs while also finding his way on camera for wacky comedy bits, has died. He was 67.
Scheckman had “multiple health issues” and died early Friday morning at Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan, his friend Leonard Maltin told The Hollywood Reporter.
The Queens native was an avid film collector who had acquired obscure footage from decades and decades of celluloid that could be repurposed for commercials, TV shows and the like.
“This meant organizing and cataloging hundreds upon hundreds of 16mm reels and figuring out a way to provide quick access to individual shots,” Maltin noted in a blog post.
Scheckman joined Late Night With David Letterman in March 1982, a month after the show debuted on NBC. The writers called on Scheckman so often, he was given a full-time job as film coordinator.

If you watched Baz Luhrmann's "Elvis" and thought to yourself, "this is good, but I wish Austin Butler was animated and also had a gun and was solving crimes," have we got the series for you! With Elvis fever running wild, the King of Rock and Roll has a new adult animated show due to arrive soon on Netflix, featuring Matthew McConaughey in the voiceover role he was born to play — Elvis Presley, but a super spy. The animation is sharp and snappy, the language and violence certainly aren't for kids, and despite the seemingly ridiculous premise ... "Agent Elvis" looks pretty damn awesome.
The series has been in the works since 2019, back when it was called "Agent King," but with "Agent Elvis" heading our way faster than you can put on a new pair of blue suede shoes, here's everything you need to know before the King enters the building.

Netflix has dropped a new trailer for the upcoming adult animation ‘Agent Elvis.’
In the series, Elvis Presley trades in his white jumpsuit for a jet pack when he is covertly inducted into a secret government spy program to help battle the dark forces that threaten the country he loves – all while holding down his day job as the King Of Rock And Roll.
Johnny Knoxville, Niecy Nash, Tom Kenny, Kaitlin Olson and Don Cheadle have joined the cast alongside Ed Helms, Jason Mantzoukas, Christina Hendricks, Kieran Culkin, Chris Elliot, Asif Ali, Fred Armisen, Ego Nwodim, Simon Pegg, Craig Robinson, Gary Cole, George Clinton, Tara Strong, and Tony Cavalero.
Cheadle plays his boss, Knoxville his sidekick, Nash his mother figure, Olson a co-worker, and Kenny as his degenerate former NASA chimp. Oscar nominee Robert Valley designed Elvis’ look and fashion designer John Varvatos his wardrobe.

Eat your heart out, Austin Butler. As wild as Baz Luhrmann's "Elvis" biopic got at certain points, it's safe to say it never quite managed to top the zaniness on display in "Agent Elvis," Netflix's new animated series that sees the King of Rock and Roll suit up to use his world-famous talents in a slightly different way. We've been following this oddity of a concept for quite some time now, with our first look at the adult-oriented and violent show last year promising the sort of alternate history mayhem that only animation can truly do justice to. Like a cross between "Archer," Hulu's "Hit-Monkey," and other similarly out-there premises, "Agent Elvis" promises to pack quite the punch.

Remember when Elvis Presley met Richard Nixon and the president gave the King a badge from the Federal Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs, the DEA’s predecessor? Netflix’s new animated comedy series “Agent Elvis” takes that surreal premise and runs with it, turning Elvis into a secret agent who travels the world battling threats to the U.S. of A. under the cover of his job as the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll. It’s like “Archer,” with a Tupelo twist.

Eugene Levy starred in Schitt’s Creek for six seasons with the show wrapping up in 2020. After almost three years since the show’s finale, some fans have not lost hope of a possible revival.
Levy, who co-created the sitcom with his co-star son Dan Levy, recently said to “never say never” about revisiting the Rose family.

Marvel comics are known for their stylish drawings, bold colors, and dynamic splash pages, and the Marvel Cinematic Universe has achieved incredible box office success utilizing expensive VFX, razor-sharp fight choreography, and a parade of recognizable faces. But how do you create a sprawling, action-packed Marvel project without using any of that? This was the challenge Marvel faced when it decided to develop a six-season scripted podcast featuring some of its most beloved superheroes and villains but in a surprising new context.
The denizens of Marvel’s Wastelanders are living in an alternate future Marvel timeline where the villains have ultimately won, and very few heroes have lived to tell the tale. In this new world order, Wolverine, Hawkeye, and Black Widow are scattered—either in hiding or as shadows of their former selves.

Eugene Levy is going from Schitt’s Creek, Ontario to international destinations. On his new Apple TV+ travel show, The Reluctant Traveler, Levy visits eight different destinations around the world. Levy previewed three of his favorites ahead of the show’s premiere.

Finland included some frigid activities that were not Levy’s favorite, but he couldn’t deny driving a dogsled was unique. Given how warmly his human colleagues feel about him, it’s no surprise Levy got alone with canines.

When director Harold Ramis and producing partner Trevor Albert stumbled upon the screenplay for Groundhog Day, no one knew it would become a film that viewers would (voluntarily) watch over and over.
Having followed National Lampoon’s Vacation with 1986’s underperforming Club Paradise, Ramis wanted his next project to aim outside the box. CAA’s Richard Lovett tipped him off to Danny Rubin’s spec script for a philosophical comedy about jaded TV weatherman Phil Connors, who gets snowbound covering the Groundhog Day festival in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania; he soon finds himself unable to stop reliving the titular holiday.
“I don’t remember much about what I was doing 30 years ago — or three years ago — but I remember sitting down and reading that script, and by the time I got to page 20, yelling to Harold, ‘I think I have a script you’re gonna want to read,'” Albert tells The Hollywood Reporter.

One of the most underrated masterstrokes of James Cameron's "The Terminator," and this is a film stuffed with masterstrokes, was his decision to have Dr. Peter Silberman exit that Los Angeles police station prior to the title cyborg's murderous rampage. It's not that we wanted the high-handed criminal psychologist -- who wrongfully shrugs off Kyle Reese's (Michael Biehn) claim that he was sent back in time from a post-apocalyptic future to protect Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton) from a robotic assassin -- to survive the carnage. We just didn't know at the time that he would wind up being one of the series' most delectably despicable characters.
Silberman was portrayed by the incredibly prolific character actor Earl Boen, who passed away yesterday from lung cancer at the age of 81. He was very much a "that guy," i.e. an unforgettable face who turned up in countless films and television shows,...

Here's a TV curio that deserves a second look. Back before Bob Odenkirk became Saul Goodman, before Charlie Kaufman became an Oscar-winning writer/director, and before David Mirkin became showrunner over at "The Simpsons," they all worked together on a little-known show that, honestly, shouldn't have ever made it to air.
"Get A Life" was a short-lived satirical take on the sitcom format starring Chris Elliott as Chris Peterson — a 30-year-old paper boy who still lived with his parents, Gladys and Fred Peterson. The show appeared on Fox and ran from 1990 to 1992 before it was unceremoniously axed by the network. And even though there's a chance you've probably never heard of it, "Get A Life" had a small but significant cult following that persists to this day — mostly due to its often surreal and absurdist humor that made it unlike any other network show at the time. As the Washington Post put it,...

Before Charlie Kaufman became the genius screenwriter behind "Being John Malkovich," he was struggling to make it in the entertainment industry. His failures led him to create one of the most unique scripts ever written. The filmmaker would go on to have a storied career, but his big break came from a script he never expected to get made and two scrapped film ideas.
Kaufman began his career as a writer working on a show called "Get a Life." He snagged the job after writing a "very odd spec television show" for series creators Chris Elliot and Adam Resnick, he told Indiewire in 1999. "Adam's scripts were the best thing about 'Get a Life' — and we all tried to write in Adam's voice. That was the job," Kaufman explained to The Guardian.
As much as he admired Resnick, Kaufman was not able to write like him. "It occurred to...

There will no second season for Hulu comedy Maggie. The streaming service has canceled the series, starring Rebecca Rittenhouse, after one season, Deadline has confirmed.
Based on Tim Curio’s short film of the same name, the series followed Rittenhouse’s titular character, a psychic navigating the dating world. Maggie’s gift allows her to see into the future of her friends, parents, clients and random people on the street. But when she begins to see glimpses of her own destiny after meeting an unexpected stranger, her romantic life suddenly gets a lot more complicated. Can you let yourself fall in love when you think you know how it ends? She probably should have seen this coming.

Perhaps Maggie‘s titular psychic already saw this news coming: Hulu has cancelled the romantic comedy after just one season, TVLine has confirmed.
Although streamers rather famously do not disclose viewership/”ratings,” it is worth nothing that in the weeks since Maggie‘s July 6 debut, it has not once cracked the Top 10 on Nielsen’s weekly U.S. ranking of streaming originals (whereas Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building has been a steady presence).

When Hulu’s “Maggie” dropped their whole season in July, I binged the whole thing.
Like many viewers, I found myself inexplicably drawn to the 13-episode comedy about the titular psychic (Rebecca Rittenhouse) who can see everyone’s future but her own — until she does a reading for Ben (David Del Rio) and sees the two of them getting married. A foretold happily ever after that seems too good to be true quickly unravels, throwing Ben and his girlfriend (Chloe Bridges) into the lives of Maggie and her parents (a superb Kerri Kenney-Silver and Chris Elliot). Less “That’s So Raven” and more “Four Weddings and a Funeral,” the premise is simple, silly, and sweet. The love interest is suitably charming, and the friends surrounding Maggie sufficiently quirky and endearing to keep me invested for hours on end. “Maggie” won’t be on my personal best of 2022 lists, nor will it...

Hulu’s Maggie stars Rebecca Rittenhouse (The Mindy Project) as a psychic who possibly glimpses her own future love life — but can she see if you will be sticking with the romantic comedy?

It can feel at times as though the logical endpoint of the streaming revolution is a restaging of the TV landscape of, say, 1990, just atomized across vastly more players. It’s inevitable: With so much content, certain traditional, and perhaps little-missed, forms can’t help returning. You have, in shows like “The Dropout” and “WeCrashed,” highbrow (and well-made!) versions of ripped-from-the-headlines miniseries that used to draw ratings on networks; some of Netflix’s sub-”Stranger Things” genre content would feel right at home in a syndication block with “Xena” and “Hercules.” And now, with “Maggie,” its new series about a psychic looking for love from “Life in Pieces” vets Justin Adler and Maggie Mull, Hulu revives the tradition of the Tgif sitcom — for grownups, sort of.
Rebecca Rittenhouse, of “The Mindy Project,” plays Maggie, whose “That’s So Raven”-esque visions of the future provide her insight and curse her with social turbulence.

During the early weeks of the pandemic and then as the 2020 election went off the rails, my wife and I turned to “Schitt’s Creek” to get our minds off the apocalypse.
So did a lot of folks. That year’s virtual Emmys experienced a winning streak like no other for “Schitt’s Creek,” which won outstanding comedy, as well as trophies for stars Eugene Levy, Catherine O’Hara, Annie Murphy and Dan Levy.
It was the right show at the right time, and TV Academy voters clearly agreed. The show was funny, well-crafted and of course, boasted some comedy all-stars (throw Chris Elliott into that mix as well). But there was also something about the show’s idyllic setting that felt like a salve for fans.
The Rose family bought the Canadian town of Schitt’s Creek as a joke, and when they lost everything, they were forced to move into the town’s dumpy motel.
