In the high-stakes world of digital currency, Cold Wallet takes us on a comedic heist journey that tries to mine more laughs than crypto, but occasionally finds itself lost in the blockchain of its own storyline. The semi-true tale spins a narrative around Billy (Raul Castillo), a father whose financial downfall leads him to hatch a plot alongside hacker extraordinaire Eva (Melonie Diaz) and good-vibes-only martial arts instructor Dom (Tony Cavalero), to crack into the cold wallet of supposedly deceased crypto CEO, Charles Hegel (Josh Brener). Their plan? Kidnap Hegel, force him to give up his trillion-dollar cold wallet, and redistribute that wealth like modern-day Robin Hoods to everyone he swindled with his “Tulip” coin.
Crypto (from an outside observer) looks overly complicated and managing a “Cold Wallet” seems about as easy as acquiring codes to launch nuclear weapons. The Cold Wallets requires several passcode or key phrases to access...

It’s great to see the always terrific Raúl Castillo in a lead role, bringing both despair and tenacious grit to a luckless blue-collar father whose dreams of liquidity are shattered by a cryptocurrency scam. Cutter Hodierne’s thriller about three financial crime victims who go after the man responsible, Cold Wallet, doesn’t always make the tech talk crackle or exactly nail the tone he appears to be going for, of home invasion tension streaked with dark humor. But solid performances and a pulpy scenario that keeps you guessing make this a suspenseful watch.
While it’s clear that director Hodierne and screenwriter John Hibey know the crypto world, your mileage may vary depending on familiarity with meme stocks and doxing, securities fraud and blockchain. I confess it’s all Greek to me. Films like Dumb Money took a more playful route to the little-guy investor bucking against capitalist chicanery,...

Soderbergh officially presents the feature, directed by Cutter Hodierne (“Fishing Without Nets”). “Cold Wallet” is set to premiere at the 2024 SXSW Film & TV Festival on March 8 as part of the Narrative Spotlight section; the film is among IndieWire’s must-see picks for the festival.
“This smart, spiky, off-center take on the vigilante genre really kept me engrossed in a how-much-crazier-is-this-going-to-get way, which I love,” Soderbergh said in a press statement after “Cold Wallet” won the Decentralized Pictures and Soderbergh’s Andrews/Bernard Award.
The official synopsis reads: “After losing everything in a cryptocurrency scam, a ragtag team of vigilante Redditors attempt to kidnap the kingpin who screwed them over. But when the home invasion takes a turn for the worst, they become victims in a sadistic game.”

Alyssa Milano, who played Phoebe in the hit WB series “Charmed,” took to a panel hosted by Collider to respond to claims that she was responsible for Shannen Doherty’s exit from the fantasy drama series back in 2001.
While not denying the claims, Milano expressed that it was “sad.”
“I don’t think it’s really that I’m sad for me or for my life or how it does or does not affect my life. I’m the most sad for the fans. I’m the most sad that a show that has meant so much to so many people has been tarnished by a toxicity that is still to this day, almost a quarter of a century later, still happening,” Milano said at the panel. “And I’m sad that people can’t move past it. It’ll be just under a decade since Cutter Hodierne premiered (he won the Directing Award in the U.S. Dramatic Competition section) his tense modern day Somali pirate film Fishing Without Nets at the Sundance Film Festival in 2014. His second feature film appears to carry a Vice-like assignment vibe, as with Cold Wallet Hodierne ventures into the world of cryptocurrency but within the heist thriller genre parameters. Starring Raúl Castillo, Tony Cavalero, Melonie Diaz and Josh Brener, Cold Wallet would have gone in post sometime last March and is part of the selected projects at this year’s U.S. in Progress. "Nothing Like the Holidays" has become the definitive Latinx Christmas movie. The 2008 film features a stellar lineup of our stars - John Leguizamo as the striving son, Luis Guzmán as the obnoxious cousin, Freddy Rodriguez as the returning brother, Melonie Diaz as the one who got away, the late great Elizabeth Peña as the long-suffering mother, and more. It's non-Latinx talent includes Debra Messing as part of a cross-cultural marriage and Alfred Molina (who is of Spanish and Italian descent) as the family's patriarch.
Watching it more than a decade after its release, "Nothing Like the Holidays" still holds up. The plot works, hitting the right emotional notes, while also keeping the audience guessing. The performances sing with real chemistry, mischief, and frustration. But why the film remains so relevant is in how it depicts the Latinx family at its center, using the Rodriguezes to get something right about la cultura.

It's well and truly fall now: there's a breeze in the air, pumpkins are all around, and within a matter of weeks, it'll be time to turn the clocks back. But before that comes another ritual, one that in this era of endless streaming options has become a monthly event for many film buffs among us. That's right, it's time to figure out what's streaming in November.
The endless switcheroo of titles available on Hulu, Netflix, Disney+, and more is always a bit of a hassle, but it gets easier when you realize that some streamers pretty much always have a huge catalogue of great options no matter what. In my opinion, HBO Max has some of the strongest programming on streaming right now, and I'm not just talking about massively popular shows like "House of the Dragon" and "Euphoria." It seems one of the original Charmed writers isn't bewitched by their successors. The Charmed revival's season four finale aired on June 10, marking the end of the series. In the finale, Mel (Melonie Diaz), Maggie (Sarah Jeffery) and Kaela (Lucy Barrett) discover a portal to Halliwell Manor, where Piper (Holly Marie Combs), Phoebe (Alyssa Milano), Prue (Shannen Doherty) and Paige (Rose McGowan) lived in the original show. As executive producer Joey Falco told TVLine, "We wanted to eventually tie these universes together." Exceutive producer Jeffrey Lieber added that they hoped to re-introduce the Og stars—that is, if they're...

Fans of the CW shows know all about the multiverse, thanks to the Arrowverse. But by the end of the reboot of Charmed, there was a new multiverse on the network… only it wasn’t one everyone could get behind. The finale ended with the reboot’s Charmed Ones — Mel (Melonie Diaz), Maggie (Sarah Jeffery), and Kaela (Lucy Barrett) — traveling to the front porch of the Halliwell Manor, home to the original’s Piper (Holly Marie Combs), Phoebe (Alyssa Milano), Paige (Rose McGowan), and Prue (Shannen Doherty). While the reboot’s executive producers had their own ideas for what would have happened next, given the series ended with them walking inside, a writer from the original series disagreed. “As an original #Charmed writer, I can tell u what happened next: Piper, Phoebe & Paige vanquished the 3 imposters right after they invaded Halliwell Manor. It's sad, but it's true:
The series finale of Charmed airs in just over two weeks.
The CW has dropped some plot details for Charmed Season 4 Episode 13, which doubles as a season and series finale.

With the news that The CW has canceled around half of their scripted shows, there's a silver lining for fans of Charmed.
The series, under the leadership of Jeffrey Lieber, Joey Falco and Nicki Renna, has crafted its best season yet, so it's unfortunate that it's being canceled in its prime.
However, the Charmed writers social media account shared Thursday night, hours after the cancellation announcement, that they worked towards closure with the season finale.
"As you can tell by the amount of change happening today, we -- the writers -- were always aware that cancellation was possible," reads the Tweet.
"As such, we wrote toward closure. Meaning, we're not leaving you hanging."
"Moreover, there are some really, really, really cool things happening right up to the final frame."
"So, if you've been with us, and are willing to stay with us, we promise you won't be left in the lurch.

Warning: Spoilers ahead for the season four premiere of “Charmed”
A new Charmed one has arrived. The season four premiere of The CW’s “Charmed” introduced Lucy Barrett’s Kaela, a young witch with manifestation powers. Those powers will be key in helping take down the newest big bad, according to series stars Sarah Jeffery and Melonie Diaz.
What exactly are manifestation powers? Essentially, it’s the power of seeing and creating. In the season premiere, we see that Kaela has a penchant for art, and has been drawing people and places she sees in her dreams (including Mel and Maggie). In some cases, her drawings even manifest themselves in the real world.
Though Kaela’s magic proved to be a problem for Josefina, who ate an apple that fell out of Kaela’s drawing and then became a drawing herself — simultaneously creating a negative space monster — Jeffery and Diaz...

“Charmed” returns for its fourth season Friday night on The CW, introducing fans to a new Charmed one. And, according to series stars Sarah Jeffery and Melonie Diaz, her arrival is going to bring the best kind of chaos.
At the end of Season 3, Maggie (Jeffery) and Mel (Diaz) lost their sister Macy (Madeleine Mantock), as part of defeating the Whispering Evil. But, as they mourn her, the Guardian pops up to inform them that there’s another Charmed one to take Macy’s place — set to be played by Lucy Barrett — and they must find her. Maggie and Mel may be a bit skeptical, but for Jeffery and Diaz, welcoming new blood to the Power of Three has been a joy.
“It’s been really great,” Diaz told TheWrap. “You know, Lucy Barrett is a really positive, fun, loving human being off screen. And it just feels good to be around that.

The upcoming fourth season of CW’s Charmed will be without Madeleine Mantock. Mantock, who has played eldest sister Macy Vaughn since the reboot’s premiere in 2018, is leaving the show after the current third season, Deadline has confirmed.
“Playing Macy on Charmed for the last three seasons has been an immense privilege and I have so enjoyed working with our fantastic producers, creatives, cast and crew,” Mantock said in a statement Monday. “I’m incredibly grateful to The CW and CBS Studios for my time on the show and for being a brilliant support in my difficult decision to leave. Huge thanks to our fans who can look forward to, what I know will be, a spectacular fourth season.”
Mantock made the announcement just ahead of Friday’s Season 3 finale. Her exit was first reported by Deadline’s sister pub TVLine.

One might sugarcoat the audience for The CW’s “Charmed” reboot as being “charming,” considering its tiny size.
In March, the (relatively) new sister-witch reboot “Charmed” averaged just 346,000 total viewers across three telecasts, according to Nielsen’s Live + Same Day metric, the lowest tally for any broadcast TV series.
Even CW-mate “Nancy Drew” drew 45,000 more viewers per episode, across four episodes.
One CW special actually performed worse this month than “Charmed,” a reboot of the 1998-2006 series that debuted in fall 2018.
“All American” spinoff, “All American Stories,” settled for just 194,000 total viewers (anyone age 2 or older). But again, that particular telecast was coded as a special, so we’ll look the other way — for this story, at least.
The CW has traditionally had the smallest linear TV audiences of the English-language broadcast networks. The youth-skewing channel is heavily reliant on digital viewing.
