Welcome to 1968, and a burst of creative direction from one of the greatest film artists of the 20th century, Jack Cardiff. An attempt to make pop star Marianne Faithful into a cinematic sex symbol is an uphill struggle, even with Alain Delon playing opposite. Psychedelic effects are poured over a tale of desire that plays out in tony surroundings and out on the open road. Cardiff had a hand in the script, working for erotic effects. The American release recognized it as exploitation, and slapped on the more direct title ‘Naked Under Leather.’

Powerful stage and screen actor often cast as an aristocrat, king or moustachioed villain
When the whisky flowed, according to the writer John Heilpern, the actor Nigel Davenport looked "as if he might knock you through the wall for sport". However, words such as "imposing" and "heavyweight", both often applied to his performances on stage and screen across more than 40 years, do not do sufficient justice to his lightness of touch and comic energy.
Davenport, who has died aged 85, was a founder member of the English Stage Company (Esc) at the Royal Court – in the first season, he was in every production except Look Back in Anger – and a distinguished president of Equity, the actors' union; he played leads in Restoration comedy and absurdist drama as well as King Lear.
In a recent rerun of the BBC's Keeping Up Appearances, he loomed as a lubricious old navy commodore coming on...

Ronald Duncan, co-founder and CEO of Alaska-based General Communication Inc., made his audience at this week's Kagan Broadband Summit here gasp with envy when he said that some of his cable customers in Anchorage pay his company nearly $200 a month. "People who get our three-way bundle of digital cable, (high-speed) data and telephony pay $184 on average," he said. "And then we also offer higher Web connection speed for an extra $10 a month." Given that only a relatively small percentage of cable customers buys three-way bundles, the Anchorage scenario is still very much a cable utopia. For example, Kagan put average monthly revenue per cable user at $55.82 in 2001 and estimates it growing to only $63.63 this year.
