Doctor Who was filled with surprises this year. First was the announcement that Russell T. Davies, the man most responsible for bringing Doctor Who back to television in 2005, would be returning as showrunner. Then came the special “The Power of the Doctor,” which saw Jodie Whittaker regenerate not into Ncuti Gatwa, slated to play the next Doctor, but into former Doctor David Tennant, who will star in a 60th Anniversary three-parter next November.
Joining Tennant will be his third companion Donna Noble, played again by Catherine Tate. But the first teaser for the upcoming episodes hints at the return of even more unlikely characters from the Time Lord’s past.
The teaser highlights the expected fallout of the Doctor’s regeneration, as Tennant plays a confused Fourteenth Doctor battling aliens and Gatwa’s soon-to-be Fifteenth Doctor asks just what the hell is going on here. Before Gatwa’s arrival, Tennant...

Two former stars of Gladiators have shared their concerns about the changes in the forthcoming reboot of the hit programme.
The high-energy physical competition, which originally aired in the 1990s, will return to screens in 2023.
The reboot will comprise 11 episodes airing on BBC and will include new games as well as fan favourite contest “The Eliminator”, the final challenge of a giant obstacle course.
To adhere to 21st-century safety standards, however, the show will include some modifications to ensure that all participants are as safe as possible.
On Friday’s (26 August) episode of BBC Breakfast, Gladiators Kim Betts and Sharron Davies, known to fans as Lightning and Amazon, spoke about the show’s revival.
While looking forward to a new version of the programme, both were intrigued about how producers would achieve the same levels of excitement with tighter safety regulations.

Warning: contains potential spoilers for the 60th Anniversary Special
In June 2022, photos from location filming in Cardiff yielded some images of creatures that will appear (barring a hilarious amount of misdirection) during Doctor Who’s 60th Anniversary. If you don’t want to know any more, stop reading now.
In the Summer 2022 issue of Doctor Who Magazine Russell T. Davies, showrunner and writer for the anniversary, commented: “Some monsters might be glimpsed. Monsters which might well be familiar to readers of Dwm. Well, familiar, but new. Whatever that means.”
This appears to confirms the appearance of Beep the Meep and the Wrarth Warriors who originally featured in a Doctor Who Weekly comic strip in 1980.
Given recent #DoctorWho location filming for the 60th, it seems we’ll be getting some returning niche monsters from ‘80s comics – Wrarth Warriors & #beepthemeep! Thoughts?...

Princess Kate - and a group of former and hopeful Olympic athletes - lit up Kensington Palace at a landmark dinner on Wednesday evening. Kate, wearing a royal blue dress from Roland Mouret, helped host the glamorous occasion in the King's Gallery of the palace's state apartments to celebrate the 40th anniversary of one of her key charities, SportsAid which works to help British athletes overcome financial challenges and give them motivation to succeed during the early stages of their careers. "Do you feel the power of the Gladiators? Can you face the challenge of the champions? Do you have the courage of the heroes?

Have you ever wondered what Jet, Wolf, and the rest of ITV's Gladiators did after the show finished? Wonder no more...
ITV’s Gladiators - the show that for eight years made children everywhere become interested in sports, eating well and keeping fit... for about five minutes on a Saturday night, then we all went back to our natural state of sitting on the settee eating sugar straight from the packet.
What was it that inspired this minor surge of enthusiasm for being buff? That would be the gladiators themselves. Every week, twelve superhuman powerhouses - six men and six women - would intimidate, bully, and otherwise humiliate whichever puny contestants stepped up to try their luck, beating or hindering them in a series of physical skill games. This took place before the big finale – where the contenders would race each other up a downwards escalator, while the gladiators were...

BBC execs will be hoping Danny Boyle's opening ceremony will beat the ratings for the Diamond Jubilee Concert
A glance at the recent history books suggests two things about the BBC's coverage of the Olympics. First, that at least one aspect of its output will be controversial, whether it is inappropriate presenters, inadequate highlights, or a pair of shorts that are just too short.
Second, in ratings terms the BBC's Olympics programming will do to other broadcasters what Usain Bolt tends to do to the other runners in the 100 metres.
This year's Games are likely to be no different, with 2,500 hours of coverage across its various channels (including 24 dedicated Olympics services) and the corporation's critics lined up to seize anything as inappropriate as an 2012-themed sickbag.
The London 2012 Games, it can be reasonably assumed, will be the most popular ever with UK viewers, with BBC schedulers unhindered by the...

Sharron Davies has been voted off 'Dancing On Ice'. The former Olympic swimmer and her partner Pavel Aubrecht lost out in the skate-off after 'Inbetweeners' actress Emily Atack and professional skater Fred Palasack were given unanimous backing from the five judges. The result came after the injury-prone star was branded a ''rude brat'' by outspoken judge Jason Garner after the athlete had earlier rejected a fast-paced song chosen by mentors Jane Torvill and Christopher Dean in favour of a low-tempo number she felt more comfortable with. Posting on twitter before the show, Jason - who previously described the swimmer's performances as like ''watching faecal ..

Dancing On Ice host Phillip Schofield has accused Sharron Davies of causing a 'frosty' atmosphere on the set of the skating show. In yesterday's round of the ITV1 competition, viewers were told that Davies had changed her routine because she was unhappy with the one given to her by show mentors Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean. Davies, who was last night voted off the programme, said that she had made the decision because she felt unable to perform a fast dance due to injuries she sustained during (more)...

Jason Gardiner has branded former Dancing On Ice contestant Sharron Davies a "rude brat". The former Olympic swimmer was voted off the show last night after a unanimous vote by the judges. However, Gardiner complained about Davies on his Twitter page during the programme. "Finally Sharron's true colours came thru," he wrote. "I am appalled at her disrespect towards Jayne [Torvill] & Chris (more)...

Sharron Davies has become the latest celebrity to be voted off ITV’s Dancing On Ice.
This week Chris Dean and Jayne Torvill wanted Sharron to attack a more upbeat number but after a day of rehearsals she put her foot down and changed her song to the slower ‘Stay’ by Shakespeare Sister. We can’t help but wonder if Sharron’s decision not to follow Chris and Jayne’s advice, led to her eventual downfall on the show. Emma Bunton certainly wasn’t happy with her lack of drive.
Tonight the former Olympian swimmer found herself in the bottom two against Inbetweeners actress Emily Atack. In the skate off Emily skated to Alexandra Burke’s ‘Bad Boys’ and once again looked way too much like a good girl for it to be believable. However she didn’t stumble, or lose track of her routine so the judges unanimously saved...

Sharron Davies has become the seventh celebrity to be voted off this series of Dancing On Ice. After the judges' scores and the viewers' votes had been added together, the swimmer and her professional partner Pavel Aubrecht found themselves in the skate-off alongside Emily Atack and Fred Palascak. Both couples then had to repeat their routines in an attempt to persuade judges Karen Barber, Nicky Slater, Jason Gardiner, Emma Bunton and Angela Rippon to keep them in the competition. Bunton, Slater and Rippon all decided to save Atack, meaning that Davies had to leave the show. Barber and Gardiner then also revealed that they would have kept Atack in the competition. After hearing the decision, Davies said: "I have (more)...

Welcome to our live coverage of tonight’s Dancing On Ice show. After an amazing Valentine’s Day episode last week, we’re more than a little bit excited to see what’s on the show this week!
Hayley Tamaddon topped the scoreboard last week, but will Gary Lucy, Daniella Westbrook or Kieron Richardson catch up with her?
And on Hollywatch this week, Ms Willoughby is wearing what looks like a bodice with a dress tacked on. Very sexy. And Torvill and Dean give another effortlessly graceful opening to the show. Tonight’s guest judge – in case you care – is former newsreader Angela Rippon.

Jason Gardiner has claimed that Dancing On Ice contestant Sharron Davies is "devoid of charisma". The Australian reality TV judge said that he hoped the former Olympic swimmer would be the next celebrity to be axed from the show. "She is the next I want to see leave. Sharron is devoid of charisma on the ice," he told The Sun. "It's so painful to watch her. There is no redeeming quality in her performance." Gardiner also admitted that he was frustrated by actor Gary Lucy's performances (more)...

Somehow, in a bid to make the Sunday-evening-eating monster that is Dancing On Ice even more unpalatable, ITV have chosen to hire Michael Ball to replace Robin Cousins. The five-person judging team was overloaded anyway – I’d have been happy to have a four-person panel and more of Jason Gardiner’s classic spiteful comments!
Anyway, we’re covering Dancing On Ice live tonight – this post will have judge’s comments, a scoreboard and some of my own commentary on each act. Enjoy! And leave loads of comments!

Dancing on Ice judge Jason Gardiner has lashed out at audience members for booing him on last week’s live show.
Although Jason tried to be less critical of the skaters last week, fans had not forgiven him for comparing Sharron Davies to ‘faecal matter’ the week before.
He wrote on his official Twitter page: “The booing was Ott and rude tonight.
“Normally it doesn’t bother me but the idiots in the audience made it impossible for me to critique.
“Booing after I’ve commented is fine but before I’ve said anything is just ignorant and boring.”

Former Dancing On Ice contestant Bobby Davro has said that ITV would be “mad” to get rid of Jason Gardiner and revealed that he is much nicer man in real life, than he is on the show.
Speaking about Jason comparing Sharron Davies to ‘faecal matter’ Bobby told The Daily Star:
“I was there when Jason made those comments and I must admit that even I thought they were a bit harsh.”
“But that’s his role in the whole production that is Dancing On Ice.
“If you treat it as one big panto then Karen [Barber] would be the fairy godmother, Emma [Bunton] the princess and then you’ve got handsome princes Gary Lucy and Kieron Richardson in the contest. Jason would be the Wicked Queen or villain of the piece.

Only ten celebs left on Dancing On Ice to show us how good – or bad – they’ve become at skating since the series started. Torvill and Dean work their usual magic to a version of Use Somebody sung by Pixie Lott. It’s almost unfair having two champions come along and set a high standard of skating, then throwing the unfortunate and often uncoordinated celebrities on to follow them. But we love it.
Tonight’s required element is a ‘pair spin’ where both skaters revolve on the ice – they must do two revolutions with one leg raised, which looks like an elegant move, if it can be done correctly! Phillip Schofield introduces the judges – making a subtle reference to the tabloid storm that Jason Gardiner caused last week when he likened Olympic swimmer Sharon Davies to fecal matter. All eyes will be on the white-toothed one to see if he repeats that performance tonight,...

Sharron Davies has hit back at 'Dancing On Ice' judge Jason Gardiner, suggesting he shouldn't be allowed to foster children. The former Olympic swimmer - who was described as looking like ''faecal matter'' by the panellist on Sunday night's show (31.01.10) - reckons the comments were too strong, and Jason has no respect for her children, who were hurt by the comment. She said: ''To describe me in the way he did when I have two children, as I had already mentioned after his tree comment last week, this is probably what bothers me the most. Dancing On Ice judge Jason Gardiner has been blasted by the media and public over nasty comments he made to Sharron Davies on last week’s show.
After the Olympic swimmer completed her routine, Jason said she looked “like faecal matter that won’t flush. It goes around and around but doesn’t go anywhere”.
Speaking to The Mirror Sharron admitted that she has no sympathy for Jason this week and thinks he deserves the bashing he’s got.
She said: “Jason’s taken a battering in the media and on websites, and I can’t say I’m too sorry.
“We’re taking part in a family entertainment programme. Surely that’s not the place for crude and unconstructive comments?
“Even by his standards he has taken his role of pantomime villain too far and now just seems determined to shock. We expect criticism from judges and are willing to listen.
