There wasn’t a dry eye in the house among the full cast and crew on the last day of filming Ted Lasso‘s season three. The shot was in the fictional Richmond Fc locker room before its championship game against rival West Ham — and before beloved coach Ted Lasso, played by Jason Sudeikis (who’s nominated for lead actor and writing in addition to comedy series), was scheduled to return to the U.S. Instead of his usual pep talk, Lasso introduces a video, looking back at the team’s growth. “The tears are real,” says Declan Lowney, who directed this episode and eight others during the three seasons of the 11-time Emmy-winning Apple TV+ series. (Its 10 noms this year include nods to most of the talent mentioned in this story.) Famously based on a 2013 NBC Sports promo, Sudeikis’ depiction of an American college football coach who moves to...

[This story contains spoilers from “So Long, Farewell,” the third season — and possible series — finale of Ted Lasso.]
All season long, the people who make Ted Lasso have been somewhat coy about whether the end of their planned three-season arc would mark the end of the series. Jason Sudeikis, Bill Lawrence and others have said multiple times that this season would mark the end of what they set out to do, while never quite stating that it would definitively close out the series.
The last installment of season three, “So Long, Farewell,” played no such games. The episode felt every bit like a series finale, with callbacks to the past and flash-forwards to the futures of several key characters (imagined or not; more on that in a few paragraphs). The fact that Ted Lasso is Apple TV+’s biggest series by far to date might mean that the streamer and Warner Bros. TV, which produces the show, might find a way to make a sequel or spinoff featuring...

For fans of the impeccable first season of "Ted Lasso," the move towards a slightly darker show with more well-rounded, slightly wounded characters in season 3 may feel a little off-brand for a series that prided itself on positivity. Ted Lasso (Jason Sudeikis) and Nathan Shelley (Nick Mohammed) have personified that gee whiz naivete that became so infectious and endearing. Now that Ted is dealing with panic attacks and Nate has become a sudden rival after heading off to manage the West Ham soccer team, the inspirational tone of "Ted Lasso" has evolved and the show has become more complex. And you know what? It's more interesting because of it.
Nate has definitely turned to the dark side in season 3, but showrunner Bill Lawrence and the writing team have been setting up Nate's sinister arc since season 2. There are a number of visual cues to show his transitions, from Nate's hair...

As the new season of “Ted Lasso” returned to Apple TV+ Wednesday, audiences will see some new faces and places. Season 2 of the Emmy-winning series ended with rising PR star Keeley Jones (Juno Temple) striking out on her own, preparing to launch her own firm. Meanwhile, Nate “the Great” Shelley (Nick Mohammed) joined the Dark Side, as head coach of Rupert Mannion’s (Anthony Head) newly acquired football club, West Ham.
Production designer Paul Cripps had the exciting task of creating new spaces befitting characters we love — and love to hate. In early conversations with set decorator Kate Goodman and showrunner Jason Sudeikis, they knew Keeley’s new company, Kjpr, needed to reflect the quirky person she is, as well as the confident businesswoman she is growing into. “Keeley’s house is very unique to her style,” Cripps says. “Her confidence comes out through her surroundings, rather than through herself.

Nominated for 20 Emmys in its first season, including Outstanding Production Design for a Narrative Program (Half-Hour), Apple TV+’s Ted Lasso has been a hit since it was released in August of last year. Production designer Paul Cripps knew that his work needed to highlight the comedic writing by creating as realistic of a space as possible. In Ted Lasso, Ted (Jason Sudeikis) is an American football coach brought to London to coach an English football team, having no previous knowledge of the sport he would know as “soccer.” In an effort to capture that realism, Cripps used a mixture of set builds, location scouting, and post production work to make bring this show to life.
Deadline: What were your initial thoughts on set design and location scouting?
Paul Cripps: Well, the comedy writing was so good that I felt we had to kind of create a real world...

“Ted Lasso” is back and just as delightful as ever. It was a bit rocky getting to this point, however, even for star and executive producer Jason Sudeikis. The “SNL” alum told TheWrap he was “definitely nervous” to watch the early cuts of Season 2 episodes because of the show’s production delays.
“We were supposed to start in November/December…which would have given us a little bit of space,” he said. “But then we pushed to January.”
Of course, tons of shows had to deal with production delays due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Not tons of shows earned 20 Emmy nominations in the wait between seasons. The Apple TV+ soccer sitcom broke “Glee’s” record of 19 nods for a first-year comedy.
Ultimately, Sudeikis is thrilled with how the pause in “Ted Lasso” production actually “worked for the theme and the motif of the season,” in his words.

“I wanted it to feel real. Johnny Flynn-fronted heist musical “The Score” has wrapped production in the U.K., joining a handful of films that have started and completed filming during the pandemic.
The directorial debut of U.K. filmmaker Malachi Smyth finished production on Friday (Oct. 2) after two months of filming between Luton Hoo and the Royal Gunpowder Mills in England. The feature joins the ranks of Akshay Kumar’s “Bellbottom,” which also shot in its entirety during the pandemic.
The film, which is sold internationally by WestEnd Films, technically started production on March 16, but shot for just one day before being forced to shut down due to the coronavirus pandemic. Filming resumed on Aug. 31.
“From March until Aug. 31, that whole time was spent monitoring the Covid-19 situation, figuring out how to go back to work, figuring out the insurance situation, making sure cast and agents were comfortable, and plotting what a return to...

World sales agency WestEnd Films has boarded “The Score,” a heist musical starring Johnny Flynn, Will Poulter (“The Revenant”), Naomi Ackie (“Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker”) and Antonia Thomas (Netflix’s “Lovesick”), from one of the producers of Beatles music themed hit “Yesterday,” which grossed $154 million worldwide.
“The Score” combines a heist thriller suspense with offbeat romance. Two small-time crooks, Mike (Flynn) and Troy (Poulter), are on a mission – the “score” – that they both expect will transform their circumstances. At a roadside café, as they wait for the handover, Troy falls in love with the waitress, Gloria (Ackie), and begins to question his life choices. But it may be too late to change because, unbeknownst to him, Mike has brought him here to kill him.
“The Score” is written and directed by Malachi Smyth (“Gateway 6”), and produced by Matthew James Wilkinson of Stigma Films, and Ben Pullen of...

Juliette talks creating Classical Greece in modern-day Morocco and Wales with Atlantis production designer Paul Cripps...
Having worked on Merlin, Demons and Hex, Paul Cripps is no stranger to creating a colourful fantasy show on a budget. We sat down to chat with him about his work on Atlantis, from what inspired his set design to the practicalities of putting the show together in under a year.
What can you tell us about the different styles and influences on the set?
We tried to avoid too much of Classical Greece. Most of the Greek myths were set in an earlier time anyway. Everybody has an expectation of what ancient Greece looks like, and it’s normally Classical Greece [c480 – 323 BC, with the architecture of Classical Athens particularly well known – DoG], but we wanted to move away and make it a little bit more tribal, a bit earlier, so we’ve taken it more towards Bronze Age Greece,...
