Ask most cinephiles about the spaghetti western and Sergio Leone’s name will most likely be invoked. As for those who’ve delved a little deeper into the genre, chances are that they’ll name-drop one or both of the other Sergios: Sergio Corbucci (Django) and Sergio Sollima (The Big Gundown).
Back in 2021, Arrow Video’s Vengeance Trails box set aimed to broaden viewers’ horizons of the spaghetti western by spotlighting works by directors like Lucio Fulci, Massimo Dallamano, and Antonio Margheriti, whose names are more often associated with other genres. Now along comes Blood Money, which unveils several lesser-known yet excellent examples of the genre. The thematic through line this time out concerns the value placed on human life. As the grizzled protagonist of Find a Place to Die puts it: “Madness and greed were in men’s hearts a long time before you came along.”

(Welcome to Year of the Vampire, a series examining the greatest, strangest, and sometimes overlooked vampire movies of all time in honor of "Nosferatu," which turns 100 this year.)
Let's get this right out of the way: "Doctor Sleep" is most certainly a vampire movie. The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences classifies it that way, and it's there in-between the lines of dialogue, and in the blueprint of Stephen King's book, the sequel to "The Shining." The film adaptation, written and directed by Mike Flanagan, introduces us to a tribe of psychic vampires with glowing eyes called the True Knot, though Flanagan noticeably avoids the word "vampire," just as he did in his Netflix miniseries "Midnight Mass," and just as Guillermo del Toro did in his directorial debut "Cronos."
King's "Doctor Sleep" novel, however, equates the True Knot — led by Rose the Hat — to vampires several times. In one passage,...

Broken Lizard, the comedy troupe behind the film franchise “Super Troopers,” is teeing up a new movie with Searchlight Pictures.
“Quasi,” a satirical take on The Hunchback of Notre Dame, just kicked off production in Los Angeles. The film will follow a hapless hunchback who yearns for love, but finds himself in the middle of a murderous feud between the Pope and the king of France when each orders the hunchback to kill the other.
Kevin Heffernan will direct and star. He wrote the script with his troupe members Steve Lemme, Jay Chandrasekhar, Paul Soter and Erik Stolhanske — who will all costar and serve as executive producers. Richard Perello will produce. Adrianne Palicki is also set to star. The film will debut exclusively on Hulu in the U.S., and on Disney Plus and Star Plus around the world.

Joan Collins in 'The Bitch': Sex tale based on younger sister Jackie Collins' novel. Author Jackie Collins dead at 77: Surprisingly few film and TV adaptations of her bestselling novels Jackie Collins, best known for a series of bestsellers about the dysfunctional sex lives of the rich and famous and for being the younger sister of film and TV star Joan Collins, died of breast cancer on Sept. 19, '15, in Los Angeles. The London-born (Oct. 4, 1937) Collins was 77. Collins' tawdry, female-centered novels – much like those of Danielle Steel and Judith Krantz – were/are immensely popular. According to her website, they have sold more than 500 million copies in 40 countries. And if the increasingly tabloidy BBC is to be believed (nowadays, Wikipedia has become a key source, apparently), every single one of them – 32 in all – appeared on the New York Times' bestseller list. (Collins' own site claims that a mere 30 were included.) Sex...

To mark the release of Brute Force on 15th September, we’ve been given 3 copies to give away on Blu-ray.
Before making the French crime classic Rififi, Jules Dassin was arguably the greatest of film noir directors, responsible for a string of gems including The Naked City, Thieves’ Highway and Night and the City. Brute Force kickstarted that run of pictures and never did a film live up to its name more. Burt Lancaster is Joe Collins, one of a number of convicts squeezed into cell R17 intent on staging a prison break. Not only does he need to return to the side of his cancer-ridden wife (Ann Blyth), he also wants to escape the clutches of sadistic warden Captain Munsey (an unforgettable performance from Hume Cronyn) who enjoys a reign of terror over the inmates.
Beautifully shot by the great William H. Daniels, tautly written by Richard Brooks (Blackboard Jungle,...

In recognition of the job HBO CEO Michael Fuchs had done growing HBO and diversifying its business, he was invited uptown in 1995 to take over Warner Music while still keeping HBO as part of his new, expanded dominion. Assuming Fuchs’ top exec slot at HBO was Jeff Bewkes.
Not long after Fuchs had been given command of HBO in 1984 after the ouster of Frank Biondi, it had been clear that Fuchs’ strengths were not universal. Programming and long-term strategic vision were his fortes. Some of the more mundane and, for Fuchs, onerous tasks, such as kissing up to officers of the major cable MSOs, was something for which the often high-handed Fuchs didn’t have much of an affinity. The solution had been to divvy the company up, putting those non-Fuchsian — but critically important — responsibilities under a newly-created office of President.

Rock group Solwave have just released a stream of their new song, ‘I Won’t Wait,’ after working with The Strokes producer Gordon Raphael. The San Francisco-based group also worked with Kings of Leon’s mastering engineer on the song. Despite only being in their early 20s, the members of Solwave, including keys/vocalist Joe Collins and the bass and guitar-playing Ferdon brothers, have been playing together for nearly decade. Playing together for so long has given the band their biggest asset-a 100-song catalog and vast range. The group’s sound was solidified last year when drummer Moise Seri joined the band. Solwave’s experience playing together has paved the way for their genre-blending ability [ Read More ]

Ahh Free Comic Book Day-Boxing Day (or Revenge of the 5th to some), with all the hustle and bustle of yesterday behind today is the day we can sit back, relax and enjoy all our fancy new swag. With so many options to choose from this year, and those mean ol’ comic store employees only letting us pick 3 (well, my store anyways) this year was filled with hard decisions. Luckily the calibre of the grabs made sure everyone went home happy. So let’s see what how some of the books fared this year:

Okay, so, sometimes in life, I can be a score-keeper -- someone who keeps track of what he gives and what he gets in return. An annoying quality, to say the least, and I'm sure my wife has your sympathy, but it's made me highly attuned to when and where credit is due.
Recently, I've been given two different credits on Royal Pains. I'd like to clarify just how much genuine credit is due me!
Producer: Mark Feuerstein
Uh, yeah, not sooo much. If my producer hat were shot off my head by a bunch of resentful line-producers tomorrow, the show would get produced perfectly without a scratch. I have definitely had a hand in helping to cast a bunch of roles on our show, and I certainly keep things positive and upbeat on set, but it's not like I'm on the phone all-day, like our Upm, Kathy Ciric who...

Ronan Bennett’s new show, Hidden is coming to BBC One in the first week of October. Life on Mars star Philip Glenister plays the role of Harry Venn, a one-time criminal who now works as a lawyer. Venn’s past comes back to haunt him after he agrees to take on a case involving a career criminal called Joe Collins.
Dutch actress Thekla Reuten plays attorney Gina Hawkes in the four part show while Poirot star David Suchet takes on the role of Sir Nigel Fountain. Unlike other recent high profile dramas such as The Fades, Doctor Who and Luther, Hidden was not co-produced by BBC America so it is unclear whether the network will broadcast episodes in the U.S.

As quickly as it came, The Kanye West Foundation is now gone. For some reason, no one knows why.
The organization was created in Kanye's name by his late mother, Dr. Donda West. Donda, an English professor, died of plastic surgery complications in 2007. The foundation's inaugural program, "Loop Dreams," used music education as a means to develop key skills in students and ultimately reduce high school drop out rates in the United States.
The New York Times obtained e-mails from former executive director, Joseph Collins, in which he announces that the charity has closed its doors. Collins also reportedly informs associates at other non-profit groups that he is seeking a new job.
"I am reaching out to let you know that the Kanye West Foundation (kanyewestfoundation.org) has officially closed it doors after a successful 4+ years of programming and events," Collins wrote. "It has been an incredible experience working with...
