Some unexpected figures have taken centre stage, from the Four Weddings actor to the News of the World's political editor
Hugh Grant
The Four Weddings and a Funeral star is an unlikely expert on press regulation, but the actor has become an unofficial spokesman for hacking victims, and an articulate critic of the tabloid press in general and the News of the World in particular. Grant was also hacked, although he is unlikely to take action against the paper, and railed against politicians for failing to tame Rupert Murdoch. He said this week: "This is the watershed moment when, finally, the public starts to see ... just how low and how disgusting this particular newspaper's methods were." He visited ex-News of the World journalist Paul McMullan at his Dover pub and secretly recorded a conversation in which McMullan alleged Rebekah Brooks "absolutely" knew about hacking.

ABC's new V pilot — which began lensing here in Vancouver on Friday — is beginning to feel a little like a reunion of sorts. We already know that former 4400 creator/producer Scott Peters wrote and is exec producing the series pilot, but now comes word that Joel Gretsch has been added to the cast.
Gretsch plays a Catholic priest who observes a rebirth of faith after the Visitors hit town.
Gretsch, of course, played agent Tom Baldwin on The 4400 (which also shot in Vancouver) and was most recently directed by Peters in the second season episode of Burn Notice, "Seek and Destroy".
Frankly, it sounds like an inspired bit of casting. Gretsch really showed his antagonistic chops playing Owen Crawford in Steven Spielberg's 2002 miniseries Taken, then flipped over to play the protagonist in The 4400, so it's easy to imagine him playing a conflicted priest juxtaposed against the momentous arrival of alien visitors.
