Death In Paradise returns to our screens in February, and the BBC have released plot and cast details.
Death In Paradise has been one of the BBC’s most successful dramas in recent years. Created by Robert Thorogood in 2011, the show’s thirteenth series is about to hit our screens. It has seen Ben Miller, Kris Marshall, Ardal O’Hanlon and current detective Ralf Little solve a remarkably high number of murders for such a small Caribbean island.
Last year, Marshall’s character Humphrey Goodman starred in spin-off Beyond Paradise, which paired him with Not Going Out star Sally Bretton and relocated the action to Cornwall. Proving popular with viewers, it recently returned for a Christmas special and a second series will be broadcast this year.
A further spin off, entitled Return to Paradise was announced last year, with action taking place in Australia.

Idris Elba! Kim Kardashian! Ariana Grande! Greta Thunberg! Rihanna! Adele! The cast list of ITV’s new comedy is impeccable. It would be right up there with Glengarry Glen Ross or Pulp Fiction if it weren’t for one snag: those famous faces appear only via deep fake technology, which super-imposes their beloved features onto the profiles of actors (who are doing middling vocal impressions of them). This is the world of Deep Fake Neighbour Wars, a show that mixes comedy and technology with as much success as Dave Chapelle welcoming Elon Musk as his warm-up act.
It’s essentially a mockumentary version of naff reality TV, like Nasty Neighbours and Fear Thy Neighbor. Petty domestic disputes that escalate into violence. The twist here is that the participants have the faces (and names) of well-known celebrities. They don’t, however, have the careers of those celebrities, and they only possess...

“The Freedom Orchestra” (working title), a documentary film presented by Clive Myrie, will tell the story of Ukraine’s newly formed Freedom Orchestra. In the midst of the ongoing war with Russia, 75 of Ukraine’s noted musicians have come together to bring a message of defiance and hope. Some of their family members are on the frontlines, and many have fled Ukraine since the war began.
Myrie follows the stories of the musicians from rehearsing, often alone, in Ukraine, to coming together for their first rehearsal as an orchestra in Warsaw for their inaugural concert — ahead of a tour of Europe and the U.S., including a performance at the BBC Proms on July 31.
Myrie said: “There has always been a cultural frontline in this war and I wanted to reflect that struggle. This documentary, I hope, shines a light on Ukraine’s artistic achievements as well as creative spirit,...

Juliet Stevenson is as excited as anyone for the upcoming Bend It Like Beckham musical.
The Truly, Madly, Deeply actress played the mother of Jules (Keira Knightley) in the original 2002 film, which has been adapted for the stage by director Gurinder Chadha.
Stevenson told Digital Spy: "I'm really delighted because it's such a fantastic story, and I can see it lending itself very well to the stage.
"I often think, 'No, that's a bad idea, don't make a musical out of that movie', but Bend It Like Beckham is screaming out to be made into one."
She continued: "There's so much song and dance, and it's such a vibrant story. It's more than just a story, it's got a lot to say about what it is to be a British-Asian and the battle between the two competing cultures. [Chadha] has such a capacity to make that into something joyous and funny.

Shooting Stars
Last night I sat and watched Shooting Stars and despite the odd chuckle the review remains the same as last week’s. Just like the show you need to swap last week’s guests for Ronni Ancona, Sam Faiers, Ashley Banjo and Chris Tarrant. The jokes remain the same.
Entourage – Series 8, Episode 7 – Second To Last
Last night the penultimate episode ever of Entourage aired on Sky Atlantic and despite the show heading for eternity on the shelf it doesn’t seem to be building towards any big finale.
Entourage has graced our screens for the last 8 years and has never really had any major story lines, so maybe it would be daft to think that they would start now. However, with the story on the chopping block I did expect things to build towards some sort of big finale for Vince, but instead he’s trying to woo a girl.

Many TV shows struggling to find a following work out different ways to build a connection between its characters and audience which typically comes about by strong personality-driven episodes and the slow unraveling of their pasts. If the audience doesn’t care about the characters, they don’t care about the show. In Volume 1 and Volume 2 of Skins managed to keep us deeply involved in the lives of the troubled teens that populated its world of sex and drugs, but it wasn’t a success they wanted to dwell on. So with the third season they got a new batch of characters (centered on the younger sister of one of the main characters from the original bunch). With those characters established, we move on to the fourth season and unlike the first two, there’s just not enough interest in the characters to keep people coming back.

Diva presenters, bad dance, graceless hosts. Marina Hyde looks back at a starry night
Ladies, gentlemen, and non-members of the academy: welcome to G2's almost-live coverage of the heartbreakingly succinct Oscars telecast, which – despite the fact that no one would dream of doing anything as transgressive as swearing – is being brought to you with a 24-hour time delay.
Right off the bat I want to join the salutes for The Hurt Locker – a movie just too damn important to bother with stuff like narrative, and which will one day be deemed just as hilariously underrated as American Beauty (which, you might dimly recall, won a mere five Oscars) and Dances With Wolves (a paltry haul of seven, including a best director statuette for Mister Kevin Costner). As for James Cameron's hopes for Avatar, his groundbreaking, record-breaking movie . . . well, they are with Eywa now.
This was indeed a night...

Alistair McGowan has claimed that BBC chiefs are blocking his hopes for a TV comeback. The impressionist planned to resurrect his comedy show The Big Impression following the programme's four-year break from screens. However, corporation executives are said to be showing little interest in a possible comeback for the series, which also starred Ronni Ancona. "We'd like to go back to Big Impression if the door was open," McGowan told The Mirror. "I felt I had taken impressions as far as I could at the time. We'd run out of people to do and it takes a while for new people to come along and that's why I stopped (more)...

TV presenter June Sarpong has launched a website, politicsandthecity.com, aimed at getting women interested in politics. Others she has recruited to the project include Kylie and Dannii Minogue, Teresa May, Shami Chakrabarti and Ronni Ancona. Sarpong said: "I think the thing is there aren't enough women that are being allowed to be engaged. And we are interested in this stuff, it's just that it's not packaged in a way that relates to us. "I was in the States and I had a meeting with NBC News and they were asking me what I wanted to do (more)...
