In 1989, the movie Best of the Best had a somewhat abbreviated run in theaters. Only grossing a mere $1.7 million, the movie was a major hit on home video and cable. That’s why, three years later, a sequel, Best of the Best 2, hit theaters… for a while. While the first film has maintained a certain cult status, the sequel, and the two more that followed, have been largely forgotten – until now on this edition of The Best Movie You Never Saw.
Best of the Best 2 came from the same creative team behind the original, including director Robert Radler and producer/ star Phillip Rhee. Intriguingly, it was co-written by a TV actor of the time named John Allen Nelson, who starred on Baywatch for a few seasons, played Paul The Wine Guy on Friends, and has shown up as a guest actor on most of the biggest shows on TV.

Director Roland Emmerich has brought us a whole lot of fun movies over the years, from Independence Day to The Day After Tomorrow, but as far as I’m concerned the best movie he has ever made was his 1992 sci-fi action film Universal Soldier (watch it Here), an awesome movie that pits Jean-Claude Van Damme against a villainous Dolph Lundgren. And that happens to be the movie The Arrow in the Head Show hosts John “The Arrow” Fallon and Lance Vlcek are talking about in the new episode of their show. To find out what they think of Universal Soldier, check out the video embedded above!
Scripted by Richard Rothstein, Christopher Leitch, and Dean Devlin, Universal Soldier tells the following story:
During the Vietnam War, soldier Luc Deveraux (Jean-Claude Van Damme) finds that his superior officer, Andrew Scott (Dolph Lundgren), has turned violently deranged, and the two fight to the death.

German distributor Tiberius Film has acquired the German-language territory rights and Polish distributor Media Squad has acquired the Poland rights for the upcoming action movie “Fight Pride,” repped by Iuvit Media Sales at the American Film Market.
Directed by Sheldon Lettich, and starring Daniel Stisen (“Last Man Down”), Michael Parè (“Gone”), Sara Pallini (“Catch 22”), Ralf Moeller (“The Tourist”), Natassia Malthe (“Electra”) and Seth Michaels (“Red Notice”), “Fight Pride” is the story of Yank, an outcast steel worker, searching for a sense of belonging, who befriends a bullied homeless boy, but turns brutal brawler after the daughter of a real estate tycoon recruits him to be her fighter in an underground fight league.
“Fight Pride” is inspired by the stage play “The Hairy Ape,” by Eugene O’Neill. Like O’Neill’s play, the story of Yank is a dramatic, character-driven journey of self-discovery of a societal outcast and abused...

"The old man wasn't that crazy after all, was he?" Time to dip our toes back into the Cloverfield universe. Megan is an impressive "proof-of-concept" 5-min sci-fi short film by a Polish VFX designer / filmmaker named Greg Strasz. It's directly inspired by Cloverfield and 10 Cloverfield Lane and the Arg for these and everything else. This also reminds me a bit of Battle Los Angeles, but I better not say that. Megan stars Matilda Lutz as Megan, along with Garret T. Sato, Ralf Moeller, Yuki Sakamoto, Tj Misawa, Edwin Modlin II, Paolo Bernardini, and a few others. This is very slick and well-made, I just wish there was more to it, as it ends very abruptly. Thanks to io9 for the tip on this. Twenty years after his last appearance on television, Conan the Barbarian may soon ride again.
Amazon is developing the live-action drama series Conan, based on Robert E. Howard’s original books about the fantasy icon, our sister site Deadline reports. This new adaptation will reportedly stick more closely to Howard’s books, telling the story of a tribal warrior who “wanders the mysterious and treacherous world of civilization where he searches for purpose in a place that rejects him as a mindless savage.”

Conan the Barbarian was such a major figure in the heyday of the pulp magazines, that he made an indelible impression on readers. When Lancer Books took over the mass market paperback publishing for the Cimmerian in the 1960s, the Frank Frazetta cover images were so powerful, you had to notice. Since then, different generations have their own impression of how Robert E. Howard’s character and world should look. After Frazetta came Barry Smith and John Buscema and after them came Arnold Schwarzenegger and then…not much. The syndicated Conan featuring Ralf Möller barely made a ripple and as the rights went from owner to owner, he faded a bit from memory. Even the wonderful Dark Horse Comics adaptations have not quite made the stir the original comics did nor have the paperback originals from Tor and others had that same spark.

Jason Momoa says his new interpretation of fantasy hero Conan bears no relation to Arnold Schwarzenegger's iconic portrayal.
The Governator played the warrior in 1982's Conan the Barbarian and its 1984 follow-up Conan the Destroyer, with both becoming cult classics of the sword-and-sorcery genre. In the 90s, we've also seen Ralf Moeller - another former bodybuilder - playing the character on TV in Conan: The Adventurer.
But it's Schwarzenegger the fans remember most, from that bygone era of fantasy films that also includes The Beastmaster, Deathstalker, Krull, Red Sonja (in which the actor played Lord Kalidor) and Masters of the Universe.
Momoa says there's no intention to follow Arnie's earlier Conan movies. He told Total Film: "I don't really think it's filling his shoes. We're not remaking it - it's a reboot of the franchise in the vein of Bond or Batman. With no disrespect to Arnold, I haven't seen...

Watch Cyborg Free Online. Albert Pyun‘s Cyborg (1989) stars Jean-Claude Van Damme, Deborah Richter, Vincent Klyn, Dayle Haddon, and Terrie Batson. Cyborg (1989)’s plot synopsis: a martial-arts science fiction film where Gibson Rickenbacker (Jean-Claude Van Damme), a gun for hire (Slingers), battles a group of murderous marauders (The Pirates) led by Fender Tremolo (Vincent Klyn) along the East coast of the United States in a post-apocalyptic future to rescue and protect a cyborg that holds the key to the salvation of humanity. “I like this World!!!!!!”

Duncan salutes the return of The Rock to what he does best, as he catches up with the UK release of Faster...
With Dwayne (formerly 'The Rock') Johnson finally free of his old wrestling moniker and back as the lead in an action-based movie, where he belongs, I really can't express my gratitude enough at seeing his career get back on the right track. Faster may not be an outstanding film, but it's a serviceable genre movie and, more importantly, one whose real value lies in the utilization of its leading man within a role that instantly diminishes the grim memory of Tooth Fairy.
My love of Johnson's film career is based entirely on its own merit as, I confess, I haven't ever seen him wrestle, after leaving my affinity for that particular sport in my mid-teens. Therefore, when I first saw him appear in The Mummy Returns...

The Director’s Cut of Albert Pyun‘s Cyborg (1988) starring Jean-Claude Van Damme has been released. “Albert Pyun’s longtime composer found the director’s last cut of Cyborg before he left the picture after disputes with Cannon, Jean Claude Van Damme and producer Sheldon Lettichand.” Also starring Deborah Richter, Vincent Klyn, Dayle Haddon, Ralf Möller, and Alex Daniels, we’ve learned the new version of the film is the cut before it had to be trimmed to get an R rating. I bet one of extended scenes is the decapitation scene at the beginning of the film and the surgery scene on Pearl (Dayle Haddon).
The copy found is a telecine of the actual workprint in widescreen dated October 8, 1988. It’s only got a temp mix stereo track, but includes the original, never heard rock score by Tony Riparetti and Jim Saad which was eventually replaced by Kevin Bassinson’s score.

The plot synopsis for The Fallen might make it sound like a potential Syfy original movie; however, it's not. In addition, the actors assembled for this action-horror creature feature is quite an eclectic cast by b-movie standards.
Starring in The Fallen will be Peter Stormare (Satan in Constantine), former TV Superman Dean Cain, former TV Conan Ralf Moeller, ultimate fighting superstar Tito Ortiz, and the under-appreciated Mark Dacascos (Brotherhood of the Wolf, "Iron Chef"). Maybe I'm alone in thinking so, but that's sounds like quite the cast for an action-oriented monster movie.
Synopsis:
Several mercenaries and one faithless poacher seemingly join forces for a rescue mission and end up battling an immortal beast while realizing the dream of one man determined to find a treasure the beast is bound to protect.
Camelot Entertainment Group is the distributor for the still-in-pre-production The Fallen to be directed by Rob Walker from a script by Erik Anderson.

It's hard to believe that Broken Lizard — the comedy troupe responsible for "Super Troopers," "Club Dread" and "Beerfest" — hasn't released a movie since 2006. Luckily, that all changes today with "The Slammin' Salmon," the newest comedy from Broken Lizard regulars Jay Chandrasekhar, Kevin Heffernan, Steve Lemme, Paul Soter and Erik Stolhanske.
I haven't seen the film yet, but considering my affinity for Broken Lizard's previous efforts, I'm sure I'll be delighted by this latest film. Broken Lizard tends to deliver movies that require multiple viewings — the jokes get funnier and funnier every time you start the film over.
From the "Super Troopers" opening to the various death scenes in "Club Dread," the highlights of Broken Lizard's career are well documented — but let's not forget some of the more underrated moments from this ragtag group of comedians. Here are some of my favorite less appreciated Broken Lizard scenes.

Lionsgate Home Entertainment has set a January 26 release date for Alone in the Dark II . Because you demanded it. Michael Roesch directed this entry which nixes Christian Slater and Tara Reid and gives us Rick Yune, Lance Henriksen, Ralf Moeller, Pj Soles, Bill Moseley, Rachel Specter, Michael Paré and Danny Trejo. Can you handle that? Yeah, didn't think you could. Edward Carnby, played by Slater in the last entry, is now embodied by Yune. Weird. That's the cover you see on the left brandishing the tagline "Evil returns." This entry has to do with a witch and a lab - when a full synopsis comes to light, we'll give it to you!

If ever there was a movie that did not require a follow-up, it would be Uwe Boll's disastrous Alone in the Dark. Uwe Boll only produced this time around, allowing the makers of the direct-to-dvd House of the Dead 2, Peter Scheerer and Michael Roesch, to write and direct this second installment of the Alone in the Dark franchise that continues its grand tradition of gobbledygook storytelling.
An evil centuries old spectral witch lurks inside a lab?
The role of Edward Carnby originated by Christian Slater is now played by Rick Yune; what exactly happened at the end of the original that turned Carnby Asian?
Gone are Slater, Tara Reid, and Stephen Dorff, but what a cast they still managed to wrangle for this name-only sequel about a team of witch hunters battling it out with a wicked witch while fighting over a cursed dagger: Rick Yune, Bill Moseley,...

See the trailer for "Far Cry," starring Til Schwiger, Emmanuelle Vaugier, Natalie Aveon, Michael Paré, Craig Fairbrass, Udo Kier, Mike Dopud, Carrie Genzel, Anthony Bourdain, Ralf Moeller, Michael Teigen, D. Harlan Cutshall and Scott Cooper. Uwe Boll ("Bloodrayne," "In the Name of the King," "Alone in the Dark," "Postal") directs from the writing by Masaji Takei, Peter Scheerer and Michael Roesch. This sees DVD release via Vivendi Entertainment on November 24th and, in my opinion, looks way better than the rest of Boll's work.

Updates on three different projects have come in over the weekend via Twitter, and rather than do separate stories on each, we've got them all right here ... down & dirty, quick & easy ... just how we know you like it!
Last week we noticed a few stories pop up regarding the possibility of Scream 4 being in 3D. Not having any confirmation, we waited to hear more, which everyone did when Scream writer Kevin Williamson debunked the rumor as follows: "What is this Scream 4 in 3D? First I heard of it." Then, an hour later came, "Guys? Really? 3D? Nahhhhh." Hopefully he won't be pressured into changing his tune. We have enough 3D projects floating around out there already, right?

Yes, we’ve got yet more images from the ongoing production of Albert Pyun’s sequel to The Sword and the Sorcerer, Tales of An Ancient Empire. What’s new this time? More shots of All The Boys Love Mandy Lane‘s Whitney Able as the sorceress Xia - and the betting money is that when Pyun talks about this movie having plenty of nudity that Able is going to be among those naked - as well as the first shot of German strongman Ralf Moeller as the General and Jennifer Seibel-Newsom - aka the current first lady of San Francisco - as the Queen.
Here’s how Pyun first desribed the film to us:
It’s got a sexy sorceress, hordes of demonic vampires, a giant serpent, sea pirates, nasty sword (and axe, spear, leg of cow) fights and gore and nudity galore. Everything that a rousing adventure needs to have.

[Updated with another piece of promo art]
We first brought news of the impending sequel to classic 80s fantasy flick The Sword And The Sorcerer back in April and while production was delayed some by this past year’s labor uncertainty and while the cast has undergone some slight alterations things are now up and running, with principal photography now freshly begun. Here’s how director Albert Pyun first described the project to us: “It’s got a sexy sorceress, hordes of demonic vampires, a giant serpent, sea pirates, nasty sword (and axe, spear, leg of cow) fights and gore and nudity galore. Everything that a rousing adventure needs to have.”
Though the project has changed some since it began life as a direct sequel to Pyun’s The Sword And The Sorcerer there are still direct links between the two films. Starring? Here are the notables: Kevin Sorbo (Hercules) and Christopher Lambert (The Highlander) are the male leads,...

It's gone through a couple of cast modifications and a change in filming locations since we first heard about it back in April '08, but Tales of an Ancient Empire, Albert Pyun's follow-up to The Sword and the Sorcerer, is finally under way. And we've got your first look at some stills to prove it!
Tales now stars Melissa Ordway as Tanis, a princess who must find and unite the five greatest warriors of the world to save her kingdom from a demonic sorceress. But the odyssey to find them reveals a secret past for all. Two more pictures of Ordway can be found below along with (from left to right) Janelle Taylor, Kevin Sorbo, and Inbar Lavi. The last shot is a very rough, early composite of Tanis ready to do battle against whatever evil may come her way.

You have to feel at least a little bit sorry for Michael Roesch and Peter Scheerer, the writer/directors of the in-name-only follow-up to Uwe Boll’s notorious creature-feature flop Alone In The Dark. Having cut their teeth penning that film and the snooze-inducing House Of The Dead II, the twosome recently turned to calling the shots behind the camera with the low-budget vampire opus Brotherhood Of Blood and this far more extravagant outing—which, nevertheless, still suffers from an obvious lack of greenbacks.
Thus, whereas the original Alone In The Dark (which few people will dispute was a convoluted, badly acted mishmash of pathetically timed jump scares, lousy monster FX and sci-fi mumbo jumbo) at least looked lavish enough to pass muster as a theatrical attraction, this installment has a lot less to fall back on. So not only did the two have to try and reinvent a franchise...

Arriving on September 9th is Uwe Boll's infamous (and I do mean infamous) Seed. Carrying loads of unnecessary violence, this is about as mean spirited as you can get. The film is the story of a supernatural serial killer is reminiscent of Stephen King s finest horror films. Prison guards fail to exorcise the evil in a murderer and inadvertently unleash a malevolent monster. The resulting reign of violence, with its extreme gore and torture, set a new standard for the horror genre. Michael Paré, William Sanderson, Jodelle Ferland, Andrew Jackson, Ralf Moeller all star in the film arriving from Vivendi Entertainment.
