If one takes a look at the classic Halloweentown franchise, one may notice an inconsistency in the fourth and final film in the franchise.
Return to Halloweentown saw a new actress, Sara Paxton, take over for Kimberly J. Brown in the lead role of Marnie Piper, a witch who served as the protagonist for all the franchise's movies.
Over the years since the 2006 installment, fans may have wondered why exactly such a significant role was suddenly recast right as the franchise neared its end.

Whether you’re chilling out before a costume party or working late at the lab (Halloween is a Monday this year), October 31 practically screams, “Watch something!”
Yes, there are myriad seasonal activities to be enjoyed away from the ghastly glow of your screens: be it bobbing for apples, carving jack-o-lanterns, summoning the undead, or an overpriced rideshare. But few experiences are as instantly and totally transporting as the ones provided by our go-to movies and TV shows. That’s why so many of us insist on sneaking in annual viewings of our favorites between social events and trick-or-treaters. No matter how scary busy our schedules may get, making time for the Halloween tales we cherish feels in some small way important.
Maybe you’re putting on your makeup to the familiar beats of “Beetlejuice” or working from home with “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown” to keep you company.

Being normal is vastly overrated, but re-watching the “Halloweentown” franchise each year certainly is not. Of course, there’s one question that always comes back on those rewatches: why wasn’t Kimberly J. Brown in all of them?
Brown starred as Marnie Piper (though she later embraced her name as a Cromwell witch) in the first three movies in the series. But, after “Halloweentown High,” Sara Paxton took over the role for “Halloweentown Returns,” without any kind of explanation from or preparation by Disney. The move draws outrage from fans to this day, as many millennials considered it a “betrayal.”
So why did it happen? Well, according to Brown herself, she was initially in talks for the fourth film. In a 2018 Q&a video, the actress explained that there were conversations, but she never really found out why they fell apart.
“The answer to that is I’m not really sure,...

"Nobody around here really appreciates my taste in weird stuff." These words spoken by Marnie Piper (Kimberly J. Brown) in the original Halloweentown film became my personal mantra as a Halloween-obsessed kid. Why? Well, Brown's portrayal of Marnie had me feeling seen, as the character was a fan of the supernatural, bold and outspoken and perfectly imperfect. In fact, the quarterback at my high school once said I was Brown's real-life doppelgänger, which pleased me to no end. So when Disney Channel replaced Brown in the fourth film of the franchise, Return to Halloweentown, I personally felt slighted. Instead of the relatable actress I had come to admire, Return to...

Despite being enemies in Halloweentown, Marnie and Kal have apparently fallen in love in the mortal world. After nearly a year of sharing sweet selfies, the Disney Channel original movie's Kimberly J. Brown and Daniel Kountz seemingly confirmed their relationship with a shot of them kissing on International Kissing Day in July. Fans of the '90s and '00s franchise with a cult-like following were stunned by the announcement, and Brown's post quickly amassed more than 10,000 "likes."
As it turns out, there may have been signs that the two had been dating for quite some time. Brown wished Kountz a happy birthday last year, and shortly thereafter the two celebrated Halloween together, fittingly enough, in Superman and Wonder Woman costumes. Kountz has consistently appeared on Brown's Instagram ever since. (It's worth noting that Kountz is not very active on Instagram.)

This article marks Part 12 of the 21-part Gold Derby series analyzing Meryl Streep at the Oscars. Join us as we look back at Meryl Streep’s nominations, the performances that competed with her at the Academy Awards, the results of each race and the overall rankings of the contenders.
In 1977, while Meryl Streep was making her big screen debut with a small role in Fred Zinnemann‘s Oscar-winning “Julia,” young filmmaker Wes Craven was scaring the pants off moviegoers with his X-rated horror flick “The Hills Have Eyes.”
Seven years later, in 1984, Streep already had two Oscars under her belt, yet was putting fans to sleep with the tedious Robert De Niro romance “Falling in Love.” Meanwhile, Craven was at last breaking down the door into mainstream cinema, with his “A Nightmare on Elm Street” proving a sleeper hit and making burnt serial killer Freddy Krueger a household name.

For almost 20 years, Halloweentown has been an annual destination for many people. The cult favorite Disney Channel Original Movie first debuted in 1998, introducing a world most kids (Ok, and adults) can only dream of: Halloweentown, the whimsical place where all the supernatural creatures live every other day of the year. Four movies later, the Halloweentown franchise is one of the most beloved seasonal offerings, with fans even flocking to the town of St. Helens, Oregon, where the first movie was filmed, to live out their childhood fantasy. (Consider it the original Hogwarts.) E! News spoke to executive producer Sheri Singer and star Kimberly J. Brown about the film's legacy, the controversial recasting of...

No! Don’t run away! Where’s your Halloween spirit? Yes, Halloweentown (1998) is a Disney Channel movie, but that in and of itself isn’t a bad thing; if you’re looking to introduce your kids to horror, it’s better to pitch them some underhands than speedy overhands. (I don’t really know baseball.) In a cynical and bitterly crumbling world, it’s nice to know that a bit of low-key innocent charm still exists.
Originally airing Saturday, October 17th, Halloweentown was a big hit for the channel, and spawned three sequels over the ensuing years. If you’re looking for some smiles, good performances and charming effects, Halloweentown is a fun place to visit.
Let’s open up our mouse eared (insert groan here) TV Guide and see what’s up:

Watching and marathoning movies on Halloween is like a tradition. They don’t have to be horror movies either. I personally like to watch both horror movies and cherished Halloween movies from my childhood. The films below are the quintessential Halloween movies from your childhood that will make your holiday even better!
The Addams Family (1991)
Con artists plan to fleece the eccentric family using an accomplice who claims to be their long lost Uncle Fester.
This movie did a fantastic job of bringing the television series to film. It was funny, zany, off the walls but at the same time it was endearing and gave us one of the most lovable families ever.
Gomez and Morticia have one of the most functioning and healthy relationships on television not to mention they way they treat the rest of the family is incredibly respectful and loving. The entire family dynamic presented is...

Director Andrew Shankman has built a career out of making extremely mediocre movies, and one of the worst in that lot was the painfully unfunny Bringing Down the House that saw Steve Martin paired with Queen Latifah. Riddled with clichés and a story that makes no sense despite all the band-aids applied to string the story together, Bringing Down the House came about long after Steve Martin’s filmography landed on the skids, making it the perfect example of the kind of garbage he’s been signing on for since the mid-90s.

Kenneth Branagh, Janet McTeer Kenneth Branagh and Janet McTeer have a conversation at the Oscar Nominees Luncheon held in Beverly Hills on Monday, February 6, 2012. Branagh is a Best Supporting Actor contender for Simon Curtis' My Week with Marilyn, in which he plays Laurence Olivier directing/co-starring with Marilyn Monroe (Michelle Williams) in The Prince and the Showgirl. McTeer is a contender for playing a butch lesbian in Rodrigo García's Albert Nobbs, opposite woman-disguised-as-a-man Glenn Close. (Photo: Todd Wawrychuk / © A.M.P.A.S.) Kenneth Branagh was previously nominated for Oscars for Henry V (1989) as Best Actor and Best Director, for the live-action short film Swan Song (1992), and for the adapted screenplay of Hamlet (1995), which he also directed/starred in, alongside Julie Christie and Kate Winslet. Laurence Olivier, I should add, was a Best Actor nominee for Henry V (1946) and Hamlet (1948), both of which Olivier also directed. Hamlet was the year's Best Picture winner,...

It has been a good couple of weeks for Janet McTeer. The 50-year-old British star was nominated for a Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her role in "Albert Nobbs," where she does such a good job playing a woman living as a man that she steals the movie from fellow nominee Glenn Close, doing the same thing in the title role. And this week, she further proves her versatility by starring as a grief-stricken mother alongside Daniel Radcliffe in the gothic horror film "The Woman in Black." Still, two weeks ago, you might not even have heard of Janet McTeer. Which is a shame, since she's a terrific actress who's done Oscar-worthy work in a handful of movies (even though she's just as at home on the stage, where she's won prizes on both sides of the Atlantic, and on television). Here are ten talking points to get you up...
