The Responder (2022)
Freeman Great, Script not so Much
Martin Freeman was superb in this, let's get that straight. As a Scouser, he was believable and relatable. Can't say the same for a lot of the supporting cast though.
The script was laughable at times. The storyline bordered on ludicrous. The ending was a huge anti-climax, probably setting up for a second series, but even so it was just daft.
Freeman saved the series from being unwatchable. He was the only reason I stuck with it.
Stay Close (2021)
Hollyoaks does Crime Drama
The storyline kept you guessing for a while and the twists and turns were enough to keep you watching.
Apart from that it was pretty terrible. The worst thing being the horrific acting. Nesbitt looks permanently constipated. The Ray Levigne character was wooden and monotone. The farcical Barbie and Ken just didn't sit right at all. All the cheese and over acting of a late night Hollyoaks episode.
The plot was just full of holes, left so many questions. With the car being pushed in to the lake, it felt like they'd forgotten about that and quickly tried to tie it up in the end.
Another annoying this was the constant music all the way through the episodes. Let the viewer get their own sense of suspense.
Bloodlands (2021)
Tried Hard But Ultimately Doesn't Deliver
It had the potential to be great but ended a pretty poor mini series. By the final episode of given up and lost patience.
Nesbitt was awful throughout. His facial expressions were so cliché and he over acted everything. Usually like him but he was dreadful in this.
The plot tries to be too clever with too many twists and turns. It's just not worth the watch when there's so much other quality TV out there.
The Office (2001)
Simply the Best Comedy Ever Made
Original and laugh out loud funny.
Gervais is a genius. Brent is the best character to grace the small screen. The awkward situations and the crude attempts to gain approval are just fantastic.
The supporting cast all add to the humour, each with their own foibles.
When you throw the heart warming element in to the mix, this is simply one of the finest pieces of television ever made.
The Fall (2013)
Quit While You're Ahead...
I would have given this a much higher score if it wasn't for the final series.
The cat and mouse of the first 2 series was great. Thoroughly enjoyed it.
The final series was garbage. Trying to be far too clever but was just turgid and boring.
Some of it became farcical in the way they let Spector back to the institution to roam freely. He's a suspected mass murderer!!!
Shame the final series ruined the first 2
Gangs of London (2020)
Simply Fantastic
Don't get the negative reviews for this? It's brilliant!
Yes, it's very violent. Yes, the fight scenes are ridiculous. But what do you expect from Gareth Evans? It's like Tarantino has got hold of a Guy Ritchie work.
The episode where the mercenaries try to take the house reminds me of Skyfall. The episode stands alone as almost cinematic.
I was gripped from start to finish. The twists and turns were great. I grew to like the characters.
Don't trust the naysayers, this was fantastic.
The Stranger (2020)
Potential to be good but just tried to hard...
This series had the potential to be great. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't awful but it certainly wasn't great.
The main issue for me was that it just had too many sub plots going on. They all seem to intertwine in the end (sort of) but that just seemed to make things more farcical.
We start with the secret about Corinne, divert to a dead alpaca and naked beaten teen. Suddenly we have a murder to contend with, then a man being evicted who's linked to the main protagonists. It all just becomes too much.
The ending has loads of flaws. With modern forensics it would surely not be possible to frame Katz for the shooting.
All in all I was left disappointed
Adrift (2018)
My attention started to Adrift
The problems with this film for me was the chemistry between the two leads; there wasn't any. I didn't bond with them at all or develop any sort of sympathy towards their plight.
The story is a miraculous and amazing one which should evoke feelings of awe. I should've watched this wiping away the tears but alas that didn't happen.
The twist enhanced the movie somewhat but the movie just plodded and failed to catch alight, instead just started to adrift......
Snakes on a Plane (2006)
So bad it's good!!
Where do I start with Snakes On A Plane? Well let's have a go:
1. Awful plot 2. Worse acting 3. Unbelievably cheesy!! 4. Terrible casting
The list could go on for ever, but the truth of the matter is that Snakes On A Plane is so bad that it is entertaining! This farcical film never takes itself too seriously (I hope) which means you find yourself laughing through it, whether you are meant to be or not!
The film is just good fun. If you are expecting and hoping for a serious action movie do not see this film! But if you want a couple of hours entertainment and fun, watching snakes kill people in every way imaginable, Snakes On A Plane is the film for you!
In summary, "it does exactly what it says on the tin"!!
