Arrow: Dark Waters (2015)
Season 4, Episode 9

Dark Waters
3 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This episode was really well paced and some dark and dramatic and light and cheerful at the same time.

After an attempt by Oliver to get the city to clean up the Bay is ruined by Damien Darhk, Oliver decides to out him as the mastermind behind the downfall of the city. Darhk retaliates by kidnapping Dig, Thea and Felicity at the annual mayoral party.

Meanwhile, Donna finds the ring Oliver was going to use to propose to Felicity which leads to a nice moment near the end of the episode before Darhk ruins it for them.

The flashbacks do not really serve a purpose in this episode with and have no clear direction.

Running to Stand Still

Warning: Spoilers
This episode packed in a lot of storylines and somehow did justice to all of them.

Mark Mardon decides to break Captain Cold and the Trickster out of prison to go after the Flash. But, Captain Cold bows out of this plan and warns Barry about this. Meanwhile, Patty is ready to get revenge on Mardon for killing her father. This plot felt adequate and just what I expect from this show.

Iris decides to tell Joe about his son who Francine hid from him for many years. We got to see some good moments between Barry and Iris and Joe so I was happy with it.

Zoom comes to Earth-1 to make an offer to Harry to betray Team Flash in exchange for his daughter.

Legends of Yesterday
29 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This episode is the second part of the annual crossover and it delivered in an unexpected way.

Team Arrow and Team Flash are in Central City with Carter and Kendra to figure out how to stop Vandal Savage. They try to figure out how to stop Vandal Savage, which includes a peaceful negotiation attempt through Malcolm and Barry unexpectedly time travelling again.

Meanwhile, Oliver looks into Samantha and tries to confirm that William is his son from 6 years ago. This storyline is sort of resolved in this episode with setup for consequences in later in episodes.

We get flashbacks to Egypt when Carter and Kendra first die and it wasn't anything special but was a nice setting.

Legends of Today

Warning: Spoilers
This is the first part of the two-part annual crossover with Arrow and it does not disappoint.

A guy named Vandal Savage comes to Central City to kill Kendra Saunders, Cisco's current girlfriend, so the two of them and Barry travel to Star City to take the help of Team Arrow. I liked the scenes between the two casts as they showed how much the characters have changed since last season. We are also introduced to Hawkman and get the backstory for the two of them.

Back in Central City, Harry and Caitlin develop a serum to periodically increase Barry's speed but Jay refuses to test it and Patty finds out about Harry.

Enter Zoom
28 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This episode gives us the proper introduction of Zoom and he is worth the wait.

After catching Dr. Light, Barry tries to get her to help him catch Zoom, but when she escapes leaving her suit behind, he decides to take the help of Linda Park to trick Zoom into coming to Earth-1. Those scenes made for good comedy, especially the training part.

Cisco and Caitlin try to use Cisco's powers to find out the secrets of Harry, but Harry is smart enough not to fall for it. The flashbacks focused on him and gave more hints as to why he came to Earth-1.

The last 10 minutes of the episode are just awesome and show just how scary Zoom is.

Haunted
28 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This episode is exactly what I expect from this show with it focusing on Sara' resurrection and the friendship between Laurel and Oliver.

After Sara escapes, she starts killing people in the city which leads to Laurel and Thea having to come clean to Oliver about their trip to Nanda Parbat. Oliver then calls John Constantine to help finish the process properly.

Meanwhile, after Quentin is given a job to do by Damien Darhk, he takes the help of Diggle which leads to some interesting discoveries about Diggle's brother.

Felicity asks Curtis to look into Ray's message left to her since she feels it has been overwritten.

The flashbacks feel really filler with them just serving to show how John and Oliver know each other.

The Darkness and the Light
28 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
After the previous two episodes trying to serve as setups for Legends of Tomorrow, this episode refocuses on the main plot of the season.

Harry Wells, from Earth-2 is introduced to the team by Barry and he is met with a lot of distrust from everyone. But, this Wells seems to be very different from the previous season's Wells with him having a personal motivation to come to Earth-1.

Cisco's powers and status as a meta-human is finally revealed to the team and it ends with him getting a superhero name as well.

Barry's date with Patty was really funny and nice to see since Barry lets loose a bit.

Flash of Two Worlds
28 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This episode worked much better than the first episode of this season, with several new developments taking place.

Jay Garrick is introduced and he comes from Earth-2 with information about who Zoom is. But, Barry is hesitant to trust him and takes drastic measures to make sure he isn't lying about his identity.

Meanwhile, Cisco's powers come into play in helping the team find the villain of the week, SandDemon, and Stein figuring out the truth about his powers.

A new character, Patty Spivot is introduced as an officer trying to join the meta-human task force headed by Joe, due to her personal history with an old villain. I liked the chemistry between her and Barry.

Fast Enough
26 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This episode totally blows your mind and changes the course of the series permanently. Following the previous episode, this one picks up with Barry having a conversation with Eobard, which was just well done. I liked all the conversations Barry had in this episode, with Joe, his father, Iris, Eobard and his mother. Given what was going on in this episode, both the halves of Firestorm contributed to the plot. Even Eddie left a mark with him being the one to turn the tables in the end. All the characters had their moment in this episode with developments taking place which change the course of their arcs permanently.

Warning: Spoilers
Despite doing the opening monologue, Wells only appeared in the beginning and for the final few minutes. It was revealed where he had been hiding and keeping Eddie and it was actually pretty smart. Due to his actions, Barry is forced to move the meta-humans locked up in STAR Labs to Lian Yu so he takes the help of Captain Cold and his sister, despite everyone being against it.

Meanwhile, Eddie decides to re-evaluate his relationship with Iris and given what he has gone through this entire season, his decision makes sense.

The final fight between Barry and Reverse Flash was well done with Firestorm and Al Sah-Him coming in to help Barry.

This is Your Sword
26 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This episode sets the stage for the finale with some awesome stuff. It is revealed that Oliver is not brainwashed and has a plan to destroy the League for which he needs the team's help. We get to see Tatsu return in the present day again. Even Ray gets to join in the fight and suit up as the ATOM in what was a very well done action sequence in Nanda Parbat.

Thea goes to meet Roy and gets to say goodbye to him while also finishing her development into a hero with a suit.

The flashbacks show how Oliver and Maseo desperately try to save Maseo's son but the they just don't resonate or interest me since it was already revealed what happens.

Grodd Lives
26 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
First of all, they really pulled off the look of Grodd and managed to make him look scary and menacing. He is used as a distraction by the Reverse Flash while he works on something. I liked the scenes between him and Eddie since they gave us more hints about the character.

This episode also deals with the fallout of Iris finding out that Barry is The Flash. She confronts the team about this and while it feels cliched, she makes some valid points during her conversation with Joe. But it looks like she has joined the team to be the one to calm Barry down now that Harrison Wells is not available.

Al Sah-Him
26 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This episode has a 3 week time jump during which Oliver has seemingly been completely brainwashed into becoming Al Sah-Him. Team Arrow has not been coping well with Oliver's decision. But, it was nice to see that Laurel and Nyssa had developed a friendship which didn't feel forced to see. However, this episode showed Oliver destroying his relationships with his old friends, especially Diggle. The team, including Thea have completely lost their faith in him. But, it was nice to see Thea in action and Laurel using her Canary Cry.

This episode basically showed how much the status quo of the show has changed and sets up a lot of things for the future.

The Trap
25 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
After Barry, Cisco and Caitlin discover the Time Vault, in which they have a very interesting conversation with Gideon, they let Joe know about what they find. This episode had Barry and Eobard make a lot of admissions to the characters about their lies and their feelings. The Eddie proposing to Iris subplot feels weird at first but it ties back to the main plot in an excellent way which also leads to Iris making a connection related to the Flash. Meanwhile, the main plot was full of twists, especially the last few minutes where the team realizes how much they have been played for a long time by Eobard.

The Fallen
25 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
After the events of the previous episode, Oliver returns home to find Thea dying and takes her to the hospital where the doctors are unable to save her life. So when Ra's makes an offer to Oliver to save Thea, he accepts despite Diggle, Felicity and even Malcolm not agreeing with the method being used to save Thea. Most of this episode was relationship-driven and it changed the status quo of the show. We also got to see some excellent character interactions, including a long-awaited moment for fans of the show and some emotional ones which land perfectly.

The flashbacks feel filler with them not really doing anything except take up screentime.

Who is Harrison Wells?
22 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This episode didn't really move the plot forward, but did what I expect from a Flash episode.

After Barry and Joe let Team Flash know about their suspicions about Wells, Joe and Cisco go to Starling City to investigate the car accident of Harrison Wells and Tess Morgan. We get a fun little crossover with Quentin and Laurel, and they manage to find something.

Back in Central City, Caitlin is having trouble being convinced about Wells, while Barry and Eddie deal with Everyman, a new metahuman. Eddie finally gets a good plotline without Iris and it was actually really good.

Nothing much happens in this episode, but it was a really surprising ending which gave the team some more clues about Wells.

Broken Arrow
20 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
After the game-changing events of the previous episode, Roy is arrested and sent to Iron Heights while Oliver is let free. A new metahuman emerges in Starling City but since Lance is still out to prove Oliver is the Arrow, he is forced to ask Ray for help. It ends up being a very fun plot since Oliver ends up teaching Ray some things required for him to be ATOM.

Meanwhile, Roy struggles in prison, despite him feeling at peace for murdering the cop last season. Despite Oliver insisting on breaking him out of prison, Felicity and Diggle stop him. There are quite a few twists in this storyline which I did not expect but it all flows smoothly.

The ending, however, was unexpected again but looks like Ra's has finally trapped Oliver into accepting Ra's offer.

Public Enemy
20 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This was a brilliant, character-driven and action packed episode and exactly what we expect from Arrow.

After the ending of the previous episode, Ray gets shot with an Arrow, so Quentin launches a full manhunt to catch the members of Team Arrow, mainly the Arrow himself. Quentin starts acting out of his anger at Arrow for hiding the truth about the death of Sara from him and we get many twists in this storyline, including a long overdue moment involving Lance. The action sequences were really well done, and the scenes with Lance were really well acted.

We also had a little fun side plot with Ray and Felicity, with Felicity's mom providing some much needed laughs.

The ending was an excellent twist, very well done, but the damage is already done at this point. Ra's has succeeded in destroying the Arrow's reputation in the city and left Oliver little choice in his actions.

Tricksters
20 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
After the events of the previous episode, Barry and Joe have started looking into Harrison Wells but they haven't been able to find much to connect him to Barry's mom's death. Barry is unable to be in the same room as Harrison without shooting him angry looks and acting hostile to him.

The villain of the week is the Trickster, is played nicely by Mark Hamill as he reprises his role from the old Flash series which had John Wesley Shipp as the Flash. And there is a moment which is just fan service to all Mark Hamill fans.

We also get flashbacks to what exactly went down 15 years ago and it answers quite a few questions and raises just as many.

The ending was kind of surprising, but it looks like Eddie will be involved more in the plot with him also being related to Reverse Flash.

Out of Time
20 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This episode was, to say in one word, awesome.

It starts off like a normal Flash episode, with Barry and Linda ending up going on a double date with Eddie and Iris, where Linda and Eddie both feel insecure seeing Barry and Iris together. This leads to something big in the end which I will not spoil.

Barry and Joe are going after Weather Wizard, brother of Clyde Mardon from first episode, who wants to kill Joe for shooting his brother.

Iris lets Barry know about her suspicions about Harrison Wells, who later asks Cisco and Caitlin about this.

Cisco starts to suspect Harrison Wells of being not a good guy, so he takes Caitlin's help and starts digging deeper.

This episode had everything you want from an episode and more with it feeling really big in scale and moving forward all plots with unexpected twists.

Nanda Parbat
20 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This was mostly a character-driven episode with each character having a mostly clear motivation for their actions.

Oliver and Thea have been training with Malcolm in their base, which has been given tighter security, courtesy of Dig and ARGUS. Thea is very angry with Malcolm for drugging and manipulating her into killing Sara and she makes some big choices to cope with it. Roy tries to help her in the situation in a way which made sense.

Laurel gets some great moments in this episode, with her confronting Oliver for keeping the truth about Sara's death a secret, trying to take on Malcolm and her genuine moment with Nyssa bonding over memories of Sara.

But the best part of this episode were the Oliver and Dig moments with both of them finally accepting how important they are to each other.

This episode deals with the after-effects of all the plots in the previous episode.

Ronnie and Stein separate and return home to their loved ones which made for some good moments. But, they soon realize that they are not as separated as they hoped, while General Eiling tries to get them to gain access to the key to create Firestorm.

Joe tells Barry about the discoveries he and Cisco made in the previous episode, and it was interesting to see Barry struggle with the fact that he is being set up with a task where he is destined to fail.

Iris is starting to suspect the people working at STAR Labs after her boss Mason Bridge shows her some evidences and she recognizes Ronnie as the Burning Man.

The Nuclear Man
20 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This was one of the most balanced episode of The Flash.

Barry starts dating Linda Park, sports reporter at CCPN, which starts off well but quickly goes sideways. I didn't like how Iris involved herself between them, after she chose Eddie instead of him. But it was a fun plot even though it took a backseat to the main plot of the episode.

Firestorm ends up killing a man, so Team Flash decides its time to bring him in and decide what to do with him. We get a lot of great moments in this plot and a lot of twists, with truly great visual effects in this episode.

Cisco and Joe continue investigating Barry's mother's death and some truly unexpected and game-changing developments take place.

This episode answers a lot of questions and takes the plot somewhere unexpected.

Oliver is given 48 hours by the League to find Sara's killer otherwise they will start killing innocent people. So, Team Arrow starts working on find the identity of the killer before the deadline. The killer is revealed and it was truly a shocker. Malcolm has played Oliver perfectly. Ra's Al Ghul is proves himself as a formidable villain with his fighting skills being way above Oliver.

Laurel is still hiding the death of Sara from her father, who invites her mother over to surprise Laurel for Christmas.

Ray reveals to Felicity what he is planning on doing and why he went away after they kissed.

The Man in the Yellow Suit
20 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Damn, this was a fantastic episode.

The Man in the Yellow Suit is at the forefront this week with Barry finally getting a lead on him. The action sequences between the two of them were really well done with Barry being totally outmatched. He has great moments with his two fathers, which were really well acted and his conversation with Iris was also well done. And Wells is really smart as we see how much he has played them till now.

After the ending of the previous episode, the Ronnie plot is revisited with it leading to great moments between Cisco and Caitlin. Cisco also figures out something about the night Barry's mother was killed and shares it with Joe.

Eddie's storyline continues with Joe finally letting him in on some of the things happening in Central City.
