Why is this a flop?
14 April 2021
Pretty wild re-imagination that's a touch heavy on the CGI but is saved by vintage GRitchie screenwriting--all the cockney dialogue seems to work and thus cool--this film makes up for some of his recent offerings like revolver and the gentlemen--I hope this movie finds a resurrection just like austin powers did when it went dvd but a dud in the boxoffice and hopefully it does spawn a sequel--watch this--you won't be disappointed.

Sad Moving Indie Movie--very good tho
5 June 2020
Only 8 other reviewers but everyone loved this little movie--kinda has the heart of Rocky1 and all the tragedy of Death of a Salesman (in Chicago vs NYC)--It's like I wish I didn't ever see this movie yet bec I always want the excitement you feel when you discover a gem like this--no scares, no SFX or faux artsy it's time to say Oscar BS---more people need to watch this great little movie

Solid B work and an 80's classic
9 October 2019
This sometimes sparse, sl underfunded movie nonetheless is quite watchable for children of the 80's as it brings back great memories of college, pizza breaks during exam week, the feeling of being young and alive, and your dear friends who you did everything and got in trouble with--the young untested actors usually delivered their lines with aplomb and you could tell the older established ones like Warner and Rhys Davies must have coached them thru their scene stealing turns--the only current fans are codgers like me who yearn for the throwback days of excess, remembering the much loved President Reagan and for me as an Ensign in the USN--good times, man

Always Thought Provoking

I can't ever watch this movie without looking back or reviewing my 20's during the 1980's--what a time to be alive that I wish to convey to my now 20 yr old sons--Blade Runner (until LA realizes its dystopian future) will always amaze in its prediction of the future--one of the films which is always ahead of the present--seems as if all the actors could have played the lead that they must have been all paid the league minimum--all the characters are engaging and the clever dialogue forms them all fully in the time allotted--that is a tough ask considering half of them are "androids"--a top ten movie since the modern age began

Ledger still the Best Romero2nd

Hold the Oscar talk as I finally watched this brooding boring movie that definitely disappoints after reading all the accolades laid at its feet. Whoever green lighted the direction this movie took should be fired for straying so far away from DC expectations. No amt of weird prancing by Phoenix can salvage this disjointed mess and the underlying theme of child abuse causing maniacal behaviour is just depressing tho lends a foreboding undercurrent of danger. It has 2 red herrings disguised as blockbuster revelations one less so than the other---if you watched it then you can figure it out. It lacked the elegance and evil present in Silence of the Lambs as Phoenix is no Hopkins and Phillips no Demme--DC movies should be thrilling which this is not--arthouse style has its place but should not occupy the whole movie and not in the DC universe--it was like unwrapping an elaborately decorated gift only to find a few packets of hot sauce mixed with envelops of Quaker Oats--curiosity overwhelms to find out what the big deal is but prepare to for a big letdown
