The Office: Couples Discount (2013)
What they did to Andy is the most stupid thing ever
While season 8 had a lot of problems, Andy had a great arc and a great relationship with Erin. Through all of season 8 Andy did everything he can to succeed at his job and be liked, then he risk it all by going to get Erin and then did everything he can to get his job back, by the end he was "nard-dog" everyone knows and loves but more confident, in control of his life and with the woman he loves. Then season 9 started, and the writers thought that when Andy was mad he was funnier, so they reversed all of his development to get back being a douchebag. Then he risks his job and his relationship going for 3 months on a boat trip, like if he never cared about both of those things. He comes back, and he's even more of a bad person and selfish than Andy pre-anger management at the beginning of season 3. What just happened? Oh and there's Pete. He may not be bad person or as selfish as Andy is, but his character isn't compelling. There is nothing about him that makes him relatable, funny or interesting. He has no chemistry with Erin and no similarity with her. They developed the Andy and Erin relationship for 3-4 seasons and they gave us many reasons why these two belong together, and now they threw all of that away and made Pete with Erin a thing. Why?
Apart from all of that, this episode is not bad. it's got funny moments and unlike many people I think the Jim and Pam marital problems have been handled pretty well. And about Brian, it's a great and risky idea but he was just used as a cheap trick to make the audience worry more about the Jim and Pam relationship instead of making an interesting story about the people behind the cameras.
The Office: Angry Andy (2012)
3 horrible episodes in a row. Nice!
God damn it, this is bad. I am re-watching the show, and seriously, these are the worst episodes of the office. And the one thing in common with these 3 episodes, is Nellie being annoying as hell. The things is, i don't think everything else is bad at all, but just with the presence of Nellie it just completely disconnects me from everything else going on.
Andy is a great character and i really like his relationship with Erin, and in order to make it work i believe season 8 is completely necessary because Andy needs to grow as a person, realizing what's in front of him and letting go of trying to be liked and accepted by his dad thus realizing that. Otherwise it would like the actress of Erin said, it would be like if Erin was going to take care of Andy. So, maybe going through all of this was necessary for his character, where he needs to learn to have control over his life and standing up against those who are hurting him. All of this would have been really great if it wasn't for Nellie. They couldn't have brought a worse character that would serve to make Andy grow as a character. This season, though suffering from the departure of Michael and a clear lack of creativity from the writers in my opinion, the show was holding itself decently. The episodes in Tallahasse, before having Nellie as the manager were pretty great, and well, while there were a few episodes that are definitely lower in quality than what we came to expect from this show, it wasn't bad. At least not as bad as this.
Of course, if you think about it nothing of this really has a purpose when i remember how they ruined Andy's character in season 9, but i'll write about it when i get there.
The Office: The Deposition (2007)
It's one of those episodes where you really get to know more about Michael
I have been rewatching the show, and i forgot how good this episode was. It shows perfectly who Michael really is an it's a perfect setup for the iconic episode "Dinner Party".
A moment that really made me think i have never seen anyone talking about it, is when it's revealed to Michael that David Wallace never thought of giving the job to Michael, and the thing is that Michael always thought that he was the one who would get the job but didn't because of Jan. You can tell that this is something that really hurt Michael, but in the same transcription Wallace said that Michael is a really nice guy. Michael even if he was a bit hurt because of that, he didn't really cared about it because at the end what he truly cared about is that Wallace thought he is a great guy. That's what Michael always wants to hear, he wants to know that the people around him think nice of him and see him as a great guy at the very least. That's why when David goes to apologize to Michael, he says something like "No problem, and for what it's worth i think you're a really nice guy too". He didn't thought about the fact that he wasn't considered for the job, but thought about the fact that someone thinks that he's a nice guy
Modern Family: Kiss and Tell (2018)
Best episode in a while
Modern Family hasn't been great since season 7. That season had some really great episodes and at the same some of the worst episodes of the whole show, but overall it wasn't that bad, it never failed to make me laugh. Season 8 had more downs than ups but it definitely had it's moments as well, but the show wasn't the same that it was a couple of seasons ago. Then season 9 came in and it has been the worst so far, at one point i was asking myself why i kept watching, so many missed opportunities and boring episodes ruined it for me and many other people as well.
This episode doesn't deserve a 9, at best it's a great average episode of the earlier seasons, but this episode it's a huge improvement of the past seasons. Maybe it's because these are the first episodes of the season and, in my opinion, the best moments and episodes of the last 3 seasons are at the beginning of each season. Maybe it's because the writers are excited to get back to write for this show, but because they have been doing it for a long time they started to get bored after several episodes and just start writing to first thing that comes on their head without giving it too much thought. Or maybe because they thought this was the last season they decided to put their best, either way, i'm glad we got this episode.
This episode proved me that no matter how many seasons have passed, they still have the opportunities and ability to make great and funny episodes. For a while i've been thinking that it would've been better for the show if they decided to put a little more of focus to Manny, Luke, and Alex. Pretty much every episode that they had a bit more focus on them, that episode stand out in my opinion. For the earlier seasons the protagonists were the main couple, and with good reasons, there weren't many stories to tell with a couple of kids, except for the few jokes and lines they had. But now they have grown up and there are many stories that they can tell with them and start putting the main couple on a more secondary role, not for every episode, but at least for some of them. We spent years where pretty much every storyline and every episode the main couples were the protagonist, but now they are running out of ideas for stories to tell with them and it's time to move on to give the younger character more protagonism.
I'm sorry i know i said "seasons" too many times
The Last of Us: Part II (2020)
People are hating on this game for the wrong reasons
The Last of Us: Part II on a technical level improves in every way possible, the graphics, the game and even the level design generally is better than ever. But honestly, we all knew that, what we cared about this game was to see how they will continue Joel and Ellie's story an what new this game will bring. The hate on this game from what i've seen can be summed up in 3 important parts of the story: Joel's death, Abby and everything about her and finally the ending. But ironically, the way i see things, the things about that people are complaining, are far from this game biggest mistake.
Joel's death:
I have seen a lot of people saying that they are not mad at Joel dying, but HOW he died. They are mad that he died with almost no "heroism", that he seemed very calm when he was around armed strangers and that he died too soon. First, Joel dying the way he did makes sense in the universe of The Last of Us, this universe form the first game always tried to be as gritty, dark and real as possible, showing how fragile society can be when things get a bit tense (remember when the coronavirus just started and people were fighting over stupid stuff?) So Joel dying the way he did makes sense on the universe that Naughty Dog is trying to put into, a world that shows no mercy and don't cares at all who you are and where you came from. Second, he seemed calm when he was with Abby's group (as well Tommy) but there are some aspects that people are dismissing about this: Joel saved Abby's life and both with Tommy helped each other to get rid of the infected that were attacking them, which made them create a sense of trust on a first place, then Joel and Tommy have no way to go but to go where Abby's group is and they gave both of them shelter, a reason why Joel and Tommy wouldn't have necessarily seen this group as a threat, plus they would be grateful as they just saved a member of the team, and at no moment (before he said his name, which is another argument that as well does not make sense, i mean why is he supposed to not say his name, why would other people know his name?) they showed a sign of wanting to harm Joel and Tommy. And that he died too soon, while at the beginning i would've agreed, the way it's structured the game it makes sense as practically the whole game is based around this tragic death, specially after the flashback where Ellie discovers the truth which made for a great twist, as the viewers at that moments always thought that Ellie never knew about Joel's secret, and that even if Ellie knew about what he did she still wanted to revenge him, which is important later on.
Abby:
It's a really bold move to make us play with the character that killed Joel for 10+ hours, but Naughty Dog did that. I recommend to everyone that is going to play this game to be open-minded about this part, because obviously we were all just waiting to kill her and then they make us play as her. Abby, even if the game tried to she is not necessarily supposed to be liked, but it is supposed that we empathize with her, understand why she did what she did, why she is the way that she is and the game does that. She is trying to reconnect with her humanity with the help of a child companion (sounds like anybody you know?). People are saying that she gets away with it after killing Joel, Ellie is the one who suffers but no Abby. I disagree, after killing Joel we see that nothing in her has changed, and this only leads to her to loosing all of her friends. If you really try to be engaged in the game, you are going to be engaged by Abby's story for the most part, unless you start screaming as soon as you start playing as Abby, you may actually be interested on a lot of things going around her.
Ending:
This was also one of the things that people are hating on, even though they clearly missed the point of the ending. During the game we see Ellie's obsession with her revenge quest with only leads to her to making bad decision and hurting her close ones. By the last section of the game, Ellie has PTSD, she has traumas, she can't sleep nor eat, her obsession with wanting to kill Abby only gave her that. When she decided to go and kill Abby, this leads to the only person that cares about her leave her, and now she truly is all alone. Killing Abby won't change anything, it won't bring back Joel, it won't solve any of her issues. When she is drowning Abby, she flashes a moment with Joel, at first this seemed like a the typical cliché move that "oh no Joel wouldn't want me to do that". But no, as we see in the last flashback of the game, Ellie and Joel are talking about forgiveness, that Ellie is capable of forgive Joel for what he did. And as she learned to forgive Joel now she has to learn to forgive Abby. This isn't only a revenge story, but it's also about forgiveness and dealing with the consequences. Both Ellie and Abby suffered from what they did and both learn to understand and forgive each other.
The real problem:
This game biggest problem it it's pacing. Right when the game it's getting to the climax, finally, the final battle between Ellie and Abby, but no, they throw us 10+ gameplay and it feels like we are starting to play another game. Really, a lot of the Abby section had nothing to do with the main plot and it feels like this game had a lot of moments that, on Abby's section specially that if they would've cut several parts it wouldn't have affected the game. This game should have been structured chronologically with some flashbacks on the way. The game really would've been benefited on different situations if we would be playing with Ellie and suddenly we start playing as Abby, and we see characters like Nora and we start to like her, and just when we turn back with Ellie we are hunting her and smashing her head. The way it was structured felt like if we were playing a game for the first half and suddenly when reaching the climax we change to play as the villain for another 10 hours just to get to the same spot, is almost like we're playing another game or a really long DLC and it hurts the game a lot.
7.5/10
The Good Place: Whenever You're Ready (2020)
This was beautiful
I am a bit late to this, and i don't usually write reviews, not even put them a score, but this was fantastic. At the beginning this show may have appeared like just another sitcom with a somewhat interesting story, it wasn't the most funny show or the one with the best story, but it was great. Then, after the season 1 finale, the plot twist blew my mind and i realized i was watching something else, something different than i thought.
This is a show that explores about questions like: Is the human evil naturally, or is the society that breaks him? Should humans be condemned by their past actions or by their ability to change? And others. It explores this questions within it's 6 main characters and all the ridiculous but fun and difficult problems they have to face and it is amazing. This show embraces it's ridiculousness, you can really feel that the people behind this truly care about the world they created as the show never decreased in quality and characters all have always acted as the way they should, you truly feel that they deeply care about the characters.
When i got into season 4 i was afraid that they were going to do almost the same thing they did in season but just with different characters, luckily, two of them we already knew them and the season doesn't spend a lot of time with as by episode 7 i think they already are finished with that arc. Honestly, i shouldn't really be surprised, this show constantly break the mold an when you think that it's headed in one direction, the show knows that's the most obvious and predictable option there is so they do something completely different.
I don't if this show would enter in my top 5 shows of all time, but for sure is one of the most consistent, fun and smart show i've ever seen.
Oh well i forgot to talk about the acting, every main actor is wonderful in their role, i think that the best is D'Arcy Beth Carden and her interpretation of Janet, she convinced me after the episode where she acted as each one of the 4 humans, truly a talented woman and Marc Evan Jackson as Shawn is one i don't see a lot of people talking about, but i can't think of anyone else to play someone as ridiculously evil and cruel as Shawn.
The Last of Us (2013)
An incredible game that will leave you thinking
This game is absolutely amazing, from the graphics, the physics, the acting, the gameplay, the attention to detail, and most importantly the story and the characters. This game came out in 2013 and it still feels like a game that could've came out last year.
After reading the leaks of The last of us 2 it's heartbreaking, it seems a poor sequel to a game that captures the brutality and dark side of our society through not only the villains, but even the main character is an example of this brutality. It seems a poor sequel of a game with really great characters, that maybe aren't exactly likable, but you understand the decision they made and why they are the way they are.
I'm not going to loose hope for The Last of Us II, i'm sure the acting, the graphics and the gameplay will be even better but at the end what made people really engage and love this game was it's storytelling and the complex characters. I think that TLOU won't be as bad as the leaks point them out to be, remember that these were leaked by a developer who was mad at Naugthy Dog due to the poor condition of work, so while understandable, he could've leaked these stuff and making it look as worst as possible to boycot the game. I'm hoping that this sequel isn't as bad as the leaks make it seem, an i think that it's unfair to hate on this game based on these leaks, i mean if for TLOU there would've been leaks that said "an old depressed man goes on an adventure with a lesbian teen who has the cure for this epidemic" people would've said it was unoriginal and it tried to push an agenda.
No matter how the sequel turns out, the first game will always have a special place in my heart and i would pretend that the sequel doesn't exist
The Flash: Love Is a Battlefield (2020)
ok what just happened
Wtf just happened, man i'm probably the biggest defender of this show (the reason why i gave it 4 stars); even with seasons 3 and 4 i always found something that makes me hold on to this show, people hate season 5 but i found it pretty decent. Well, no matter how bad this show can get sometimes, i'm always hopeful, so when the first episode of this season started i was very happy that this show was finally doing things right, but man this episode is bad, really bad. It's boring, very cringey especially from Amunet, uninteresting side plots and they tried to hard to make it funny that it it didn't work at all. The only reason i give it 4 stars is because it was a filler episode and it didn't ruin any major plotline and those last minutes with Nash seeing Harry and Iris trapped in mirrorverse can be really interesting.
I hope this is the only bad episode of the season, please
The Flash: Marathon (2020)
Decent episode
I see a lot of people complaining about iris being the focus of this episode. I get it, the show is called the flash and we want to see barry more. But cmon, we haven't got an iris centered episode in a long time. She wasn't annoying and in my opinion they handled her very well this episode, it served to introduce the black hole organisation and i don't see any other character serving the purpose that Iris served this episode. Also, from what i've heard probably they are adapting the story that iris come from the future, but it's just a theory. the first half of this season didn't focus too much on Iris and as long they doesn't get too much focus like in yesterday's episode and focus more on barry, i don't really mind this episode.
pretty great episode, i really liked diggle and barry and their moments, it was pretty emotional and it teased barry's new powers. It's been a while since we've seen barry learning to use new powers so this can be interesting. This episode really gave some season 1 vibes, it doesn't hesitate to have more light-hearted and genuinely (in my opinion) funny moments but they still doesn't loose focus on the characters and it isn't afraid to change the tone to more serious moments.
Cisco regretting taking the meta cure was one of the highlights of this episode. I didn't like the fact cisco decided to get rid of his powers, i get why the writers decided to do that, Carlos Vales wasn't meant to be in season 6 and they wanted to take his character out of the show without killing him (that would've been worse in my opinion).
I'm really intrigued what will happen to Nash, but episode 6x15 if i'm not mistaken is called "the exorcism of Nash Wells" and due to the recent events, that doesn't sound good.
At first i wasn't too sure about this black hole secret organisation plot line. but i'm more and more invested in that story and since we'll probably get godspeed back, i'm really looking forward to this.
Yet, the episode still was boring at times and some plot hole, but for the most part it was a really fun way to be back after a long break
7,4/10
Arrow: Fadeout (2020)
Fadeout
After a long run, CW's Arrow decided to end. And damn the final episode was great.
First of all, the fight scene is probably tthe best in the entire show, at leastmy personal favourite. All season except seasons 3-4, have really great fight scenes, but i can't remember one that's better than this one. Bringing back to life characters like Moira, Tommy or Emiko without losing the impact those deaths had in earlier season, was a great move and a great gesture from Oliver.
Almost every character (except the ones that'll show up in the upcoming show "Green arrow and the canaries") had some sort of closure, for example Thea and Roy are finally together and decided to get married. Diggle got his daughter back who was erased from existence after Flashpoint, and now he's becoming a green lantern, after being strongly teased during the whole show, especially the Elseworlds closure. I don't think that he'll get his own show as the green lantern, but if possible he will do as a supporting character in the next HBO series about green lantern.
Arrow is far from being the best show of all time, Arrow is probably the show with most up's and down's i've ever seen in a TV show, but damn it is one of the most important shows of all time. Yeah, if it wasn't because of Smallville, CW would've never got the idea to replicate the success of smallville by doing another superhero show, but it wasn't because Arrow's quality and popularity of it's first two seasons, breaking CW's formula by making a more serious and realistic show, we would've never got Flash, Legends, Supergirl, Batwoman, Black lightning and the two next shows coming later this year. We would've never got the Marvel Netflix shows with outstanding and revolutionary shows like Daredevil. Probably Kevin Feige would not have thought of the idea of making disney+ to bring all these new marvel shows, and also we probably would've never got Titans, Doom Patrol, Swamp thing and Stargirl. Arrow isn't important because it changed film making, it's important because it bringed to life many superhero shows that today, from my perspective are one of the best tv show ever created.
Ironically, the whole show is about legacy, and Arrow, left a legacy of many TV shows inspired by it.
I'll never forget this
