Jjakpae (2006)
This movie sucked so-o-o-o-o bad
This movie sucked so-o-o-o-o bad. Forget that is was subtitled, the dialogue was worthless. Forget the plot, it was pretty convoluted. Forget the acting, the characters relied on their looks more than their skills. Forget tai kwon do, that martial art will get you no where in a real fight.
Martial arts movies should be about quality, believable martial arts. The fight scenes were just horrible. The good guys could fight for extremely long periods of time against uncountable fresh rivals, do dramatic flips, complicated acrobatics, while bleeding from all extremities and never run out of energy to do more technical moves and leave their rivals in a heap--probably because they consumed their special stamina drink.
The only positives about the movie were the sets. Glimpses of cool camera angles and good use of backdrops against character costumes. I need more story or more action in this type of film.
Redline (2007)
showcase for fast cars
This movie was a showcase for fast cars, hot chicks, big spenders, and fiery crashes.
The plot was basic. The acting was average. The characters were stereotypical. Remember, this is not an award winning movie, but it was good enough to entertain me.
The movie as a whole, was fast paced, easy to follow, and fun to watch. No academy award nominations, here, but none were expected. Just take it for what it's worth: a good way to kill an hour and a half with no regrets. This movie was worth the money I spent to rent it at the video store.
Confetti (2006)
Keep watching, it will get better
Mockumentary that follows three couples as they compete for the title of "Most Original Wedding".
Prudes may be offended by the nudity, but it is done in a very non-sexual way. The nude scenes are quite long and are not filmed through smoke or other obstructions. Men and women are mingling and being interviewed while totally naked. You actually get a glimpse of what it's like to go to a nudist colony.
I am glad that I decided to watch the full film. The payoff at the end was worth the time I spent loathing and yawning through the first hour of this trying-too-hard-to-be-funny movie. The final competition scenes are wonderful, heart touching, and very well done.
The Descent (2005)
The ending sucked
The ending sucked. She gets out? She doesn't get out? It was all a dream? What the hell happened? I payed for a good story, and had one until the last minute. The story had no ending. There was no finality or cliffhanger. Without some sort of finality, I might as well have stayed home and watched TV. Directors who don't know how to finish the job should never get hired in the first place. A great movie went straight down into the gutter with that crappy ending. I have no respect for a director who has no respect for my time. The director is telling the story--so end the damn thing or tell everyone they get a refund if they agree that the director didn't know how to end the story, so he just threw something stupid in to try to look artsy. It's a horror movie for cripe sake. Part 2 could start with the creatures grabbing her just before she gets to town, but nooooooo, we got stuck with that other crap.
A History of Violence (2005)
Is he in hiding? Or is he just a regular guy? Mistaken identity? or Truth?
Good story. Good suspense. Good action. Crappy ending. I would not watch it again--maybe the action scenes, but not the whole movie. I now know why I hadn't heard of this movie until it came out on DVD. They did a great job setting up the plot and identifying the characters. The action scenes were brief but they were some of the best quality I have seen in movies with a much higher budget. I enjoyed the suspense that kept me thinking about what might happen or what might not happen. And then it was just, over. What?!?!?! They can't just end a movie like that! It was so good until it ended. Change the ending and this movie gets ranked 2-3 points higher.
