Doctor G (2022)
Nothing makes sense
I am a lover of Indian movies. This is my first time of rating any movie this low. I at least give ratings of 4/10 to poor movies.
There is no climax to this movie. It's a bunch of different things thrown together that were so ludicrous that I couldn't wrap my mind about it.
The characters that I wanted to like became ones not likable. Medical lingo was also not explained. I understood the lingo because I work in that area of expertise within the medical field.
New topics are introduced just randomly thrown in there. The story lines don't make any sense.
Much of the movie was very repulsive.
This movie was a complete waste of time.
Laal Singh Chaddha (2022)
A less crude version of Forrest Gump. Very enjoyable
I loved Forrest Gump other than it was a little to crude for me.
Laal Singh Chaddha took the crudeness out as in knowing many of my Indian friends, they would not accept much of the crudeness that is Forrest Gump.
I've immersed myself into the Indian culture and knowing just a little of how my Indian friends think, Aamir Khan did an excellent job on this remake. He's very clever. I enjoyed this film mush more then Forrest Gump in many way, although there were some things that Indians understand that we're referred to that I only slightly understood which lost a little of the humor on me.
Without spoiling this film, I do understand a little why this isn't getting the best reviews from an Indian audience, but still, it is deserving of better ratings.
Baabul (2006)
Incredible, heart-touching Bollywood movie
I have watched and enjoyed so many Bollywood movies. This movie is a 5/5 on my Google review.
I don't normally write reviews, however I have to express how very underrated this movie is 😳😮
It has pleasant twists, amazing dancing throughout. It has a phenomenal plot, and very, very beautiful beautiful music throughout.
Many of my favorite actors are here including Salman Khan, Rani Mukerji, John Abraham, Verma, and Amitabh Bachchan to name just a few. Amitabh Bachchan is utterly incredible in his acting. All actors really are.
I won't give away any of the plot, as I LOVED every minute of this movie. I don't usually rewatch movies, but I will be rewatching this one multiple times.
Lust Stories (2018)
Anticlimactic, just weird
Slow, boring, weird. Nothing intriguing about it. This is not romantic. In fact it is anti-romantic. Yuck
Hamari Adhuri Kahani (2015)
Beautiful romance
Watching as an English reading American in 2020, I first chose this movie based on its beautiful music on YouTube. The music is even more amazing when watching the movie. It really enhances the scenes and the romance. I am very impressed by the beautiful flute and full orchestra complete with violins and harp.
This movie is full of romance and yearning. The movie was so good that it moved quickly.
I suggest to enhance your viewing and do not understand Hindi, listen to the music with English translation. This movie got a point off for not translating the Hindi into English while singing. It is important overall to understand what these songs meanings are.
Marjaavaan (2019)
Ek American's perspective
I love this movie!
I'm addicted to Indian movies. Someone recommended Bollywood movies and I got hooked.
I start choosing which Indian movie to watch by its music and ratings.
I'm glad I didn't go by ratings because I would not have watched this.
I loved the song "Tum Hi Aana" on YouTube, so I researched the movie. I didn't know until I read some reviews that this was the sequel to "Ek Villain" which I loved. That tipped the scales paired with its beautiful music to entice me to watch this movie.
I have taught myself enough Hindi to correct one big translation mistake. The English subtitles were translated to say "I am floored" which has several English definitions but the use of "I am floored" is QUITE different than what the producers of this movie wanted to portray.
Saying "I am floored" at least in American English means "I am astonished" or "I am shocked". I had to research the word "marjaavan" to really understand its true meaning. Once I understood, the use of the word "marjaavaan", that word tied in beautifully to its theme song. Really, India tops Hollywood with her beautiful music!
Some things I like in movies besides beautiful music and dancing: the movie flows quickly where I am not checking the time, the ability the movie has to provoke my emotions, the insight into the different religions in India, and good acting. This movie met my criteria.
If I had not watched the movie "Barfi", I would not have understood the reference to that. I did not like the use of "Barfi".
Some of the insight into following this movie well involved my small knowledge of Hindi and the lords in Hinduism along with the dedication of Muslims to Allah. Some negatives: there were errors in the translation which means English only reading viewers missed some of the content and there is much fake action if you like realism in a movie.
Overall, this movie did very well compared to the disappointment of many sequels. It evoked lasting emotions. I will not forget this movie.
Hero (2015)
Don't let the ratings drive you away from this excellent movie!
This movie is extremely underrated. The plot moved quickly...it presented what it needed to and didn't drag on. The music was beautiful. There is an awesome dance scene which was refreshing...it was beautiful ballet combined with lyrical dance depicting the suffering that the main characters had gone through.
Excellent movie. I have rewatching the dance scene because it is so emotional and beautiful and the music in it is beautiful too.
Don't let the low IMDB rating scare you. I was pleasantly shocked. This gets a 10 from me!
