Wish You Were Here (2005)
Interesting little movie worth seeing.
On our EURO TRIP last week we went thru Germany, with all those hours on a train visiting 9 countries we needed entertainment! So we picked up a few new DVD's in a store, Wish You Were Here was one of them, i spotted this movie coz i saw the HD add-on, part of the double disk set. For $22 equivalent it was well worth the money, the high quality crisp picture is really something! great colors, nice imagery and a beautiful actress... it made me think of home in sunny California!
Its very well shot, nicely paced and despite some script flaws, a nice little discovery. The ending really took me by surprise & the smile to camera by the swollen eyed David Character left me with a connection to the story! Its one of those films that probably needed a much bigger budget and would have been screened in theaters alongside blockbuster thrillers, the fact that it is small and unheard of makes it a little, potentially cultish film worth talking about. If you're a technology freak like me, you'll be happy simply with the quality of HD DVD, seeing that it was also shot on HD as the director mentions in the 'making of'. Overall recommended, but I haven't seen available in the States yet A
Hostel (2005)
disappointing
Well... What can i say... I mean this movie left me shaking my head with disappointment. Poor story, poor acting, poor editing, poor twist, & just when i thought Lionsgate had redeemed themselves for a fantastic award winning production "Crash" i was reminded about previously released industry atrocities such as "Open Water" & "Saw 1 & 2" This film does for Eastern European tourism what Rats did for the black death! "Gave it a bad reputation" Not that i am from Eastern Europe but still... I can see floods of American kids going to Europe looking for "Hot ass-ed Euro chicks dude" OK confession time..I gotta admit i speak several languages including Dutch & German which where laughable bad in this, & i know that the average person would miss that fact, but you just need 1 person who does know what he is talking about & i know it will take millions worldwide sales, but i just get SO tired of seeing things rammed down my throatlike " The most horrifying horror movie ever" & " It will scare you out of your cinema seat" Come on LionsGate after making something so breathtaking like "Crash" stop making kiddie movies & pumping $100 million bucks into advertising, or if you need to keep doing this make something worth while, a Jaws or Exosist for example. But i think it is wasted breath, business is business & millions of Dollars world wide speaks louder then whispers of admiration from great people worldwide... In a nut shell... Could be worse i guess, if you do watch it don't expect much... & If your a horney American teenager, stay away from eastern European hostals with half naked Euro Trash girls hang around doing nothing but flirting with Americans boys,BECAUSE this happens all the time.... REALLY & is based on a true story... Oh yes... Its SO real... Now if you will excuse me i have to go take the tooth fairy to the dentist now, "Coming to a theater near you this summer" "It will scare her out of her little wings & theater seat" A

The Island (2005)
very good !
I really enjoyed this, both the action & quality of acting was first class. This is clearly the end product of a quality director, script writing team, production team and editing. The story was very believable, the stunts brand new, and overall i would watch this again, and again. Scarlet was stunningly beautiful in this, her innocence of a 15 year child comes thru the screen so brightly and clearly it makes you feel like giving her a cuddle.. The entire movie keeps you on your seat edge and it keeps that full on, 6th gear, pace till the very end...
Watch this movie, it's well worth it...

Transporter 2 (2005)
Terrible load of Hollywood clichƩ crap!
This movie made me very angry ! My first question is: How stupid do you think we are? The woman in her underwear the entire movie,PLEASE! Shooting 1000's of bullets in all directions from the same magazine! OH COME ON! The car smashing thru walls and flipping over mid air to remove the bomb! WHAT ARE YOU SMOKING! How the hell does a semi unknown 30 year old French director get millions of dollars thrown at him to make this rubbish, what did he do, read the "Hollywood book of movie ClichƩs" before he started shooting.. Can you tell i am angry yet?, I wanted my money back from the movie box office! Refund me.. Fandango refund me ! Everyone in the entire theater was laughing the whole movie, and not just in my showing, i spoke to my friends and they said the same thing, "Everyone was laughing" PLEASE READER, Don't WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS! I am a fan of Jason S, he was good in the first one, and i enjoyed the car chases, fight scenes & Frence Rivera setting, YES there was a few bobos as far as believable stunts but it was soon forgotten.. But this movie made me cringe with pain & the ONLY reason i stayed was the thought of being able to write this review.. With millions of Dollars available to make movies, why does Hollywood think that the average person will put up with this sort of terrible painful drivel being delivered! I felt insulted, ripped off, & somehow violated! A
Lord of War (2005)
a must see!
Andrew Niccol is a genius. This film had me gripped to me seat from start to end. I saw this film whilst passing thru France.. in English of course, and I don't understand why it wasn't marketed more, it is stylish, well paced and the 4 leads work in perfect harmony together. Nick Gage seems to breeze thru the story so effortlessly, despite the challenges he constantly faces, he is believable and cunning, and when he pulled off that stunt to get Ava, it gave me a few ideas of how I might achieve similar goals!.. Kidding. The most shocking part of this film is that its very very real, Africa is a scary place where live has little or no value, people come and go like the wind and to be able to do that kind of business in that continent would take some serious nerves of steel. Its one of the best films I've seen all year. A
