Picket Fences: Thanksgiving (1992)
One I will never forget
It has been many years since I saw this episode, and while I cannot recall every detail, I can remember exactly where I was, my surroundings and the effect it had on me like it was yesterday. My son was nine and had some of his friends over. If you've ever had an apartment full of nine-year-olds, you know it's difficult to concentrate on anything else, but from the opening scene, when guest star Richard Kiley is stopped for speeding and handcuffed by overly enthusiastic cop Lauren Holly, I was transfixed for the entire hour. Fortunately, no major emergencies erupted in my house. As I said, I cannot recall plot details, but I can remember clearly that every character storyline merged perfectly into the others, and I had an experience, an epiphany even, about what family really means. Funny how you don't need to recall facts to bring back what really matters. Something very Proustian about that. I can't wait until the DVD comes out. I hear it's been put off until June, '07. Loved that show.
