Aloha (I) (2015)
Underrated
5 January 2024
Okay I watched this in theaters when released and lost the plot and hated it halfway through. Watched again in 2024, and I loved it. The plot flows and the characters are likable. I honestly think this film was just a bit ahead of its time with the whole billionaires buying space thing, but now that that's more our reality, it was really simple for me to follow. Also, I loved the introduction of his past girlfriend and their arc, even though it's a waste to have John Krasinski in a mostly non speaking role. The casting of Emma stone conflicts with the "I'm hawiian" deal, but her personality totally fits with the character, so I give it a pass. I loved the hat breakup scene and altogether thought it was super cute !!

I'm sad
19 November 2023
I was so excited for this film but it felt... disappointing. The guys pulled their punches and you could kind of feel their humor trying to break through, but it was like it had been through the washing machine of lane Hollywood Apatow humor. Like the small bits that made me laugh didn't even match how much PDD makes me laugh from a simple SNL skit. The pacing was weird and it made me feel kind of sad for the guys that this was their film debut. It's hard to describe other than that it felt like it went off the rails but not in a good way like their SNL skits. It was more off the rails in a stupid way. When we got to the cult, I really was just ready for it to be over, and then Bowen Yang added nothing to it. It was sad.

Asha sucks
27 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Damn I wish my biggest problem in life was my millionaire boyfriend investing in my business to get me a promotion... she literally treats him like the devil and all he did was propel her career forward. Asha is so annoying. The conflict is dumb.

I enjoyed the parents and the coworkers and the costumes, but the feminist message is too heavy-handed with the career stuff, but then she's only into him when she sees his job and how rich he is... like yuck. I swear she only likes his lifestyle. And the white guy bektber-in-law was such a doofus, like come on, be a little more intelligent with the script.

Glass Onion (2022)
Fabulous fun
2 January 2023
I would watch a hundred more Daniel Craig helmed Poirot-energy mysteries. Seriously amazing. This and knives out have the fun energy missing from the Kenneth Branaugh modernpoirot films.

I enjoyed the wild characters, the backstories, and how everything came together. It was a little obvious, but the minor detail reveals were worth it. I felt taken out of the mystery a little when we flashed to real world scenes, much like the off-campus scenes in knives out, but it was still very captivating. I'd like to see more of these even if they're on Netflix. Happy with this new wave of punchy mystery films.

Enjoyed
28 November 2022
Okay we actually really enjoyed this. Apart from the Reva character, we loved the journey of obiwan, were pleasantly surprised by his scenes with Vader as well, and even enjoyed leia. The actress seems a lot younger than 10 and appears to not be physically able to run? But other than that, she was great. I feel like anyone who found her annoying doesn't spend time around young girls: yes, a lot of them actually do act like that.

It was great seeing the different planets, and we really enjoyed a larger look at leia's home planet. It was cool seeing flashbacks and Owen's character had a chance to shine and show how much he cares for Luke which we liked.

It was nice to see Obiwan restored, even though I wish we got more Obiwan and less Reva. She was really awful. Her costume was ill-fitting and I honestly felt sorry for her stomping around the set looking so foolish. She felt completely out of place in the universe, like someone's cousin stepped into the role. That moment she was waving her saber after the cargo ship? Ridiculous. She pales in comparison to Vader.

Wish there could have been a longer season.

! Excited for more from Disney.
