A Little Gem

I was introduced to this by my son who's a fan and without his input it's one of those that's easily missed. I'm so glad he did because you have dry comedy mixed with hard line events but cleverly done. Totally addictive and already on series 2 with 11 episodes as opposed to 6 in series 1. Dialogue is somewhat predictable but nevertheless it's excellent viewing and love the dead pan acting. It's such a welcome change from the usual rubbish that's on these days.

Awful
20 October 2021
Everyone has to start somewhere... yes... but you do a run , look back and amend as necessary or scrap it and start again. Sorry guys but this is awful in every way, from the padded coat as it was so cold whilst others having shorts on to such bad acting , bad sets, just bad everything, it's embarrassing. When you make a film like this, don't realise it until at least 30% of it is watchable.

Amazing
15 October 2021
I suppose if your at a certain young age where life happens without not to much trauma and the worst thing that could happen is you don't have the latest mobile phone then I can understand anyone like this watching this film would give it a big thumbs down, a one or switch off.... However, for those of us and there are plenty of us out there that have a close association with a lot of what this film portrays it is superb. Timothy Spall in my book has always been an actor who's skill has been a privilege to watch and in this film it's one of his best. For someone who can relate to this film in several ways it's just excellent in every way and for those who haven't experienced these situations then your very lucky which is why your probably so unattached with the meaning of this film. A big hats off to the director Gillies MacKinnon who got it spot on. Photography and music score also spot on. To me it's worth a nomination but no doubt to others a waste of time and that's the beauty of movies, to some it means so much and to others nothing.

Entertaining as movies should be.
13 September 2021
I agree with loads of others when I say I don't understand who or why anyone would give this a 1 or 2 rating dissecting every frame and giving it the thumbs down. I like all kinds of movies, some serious, some silly some gory and some you just want to be entertained and afterwards having drunk you drink and eating your favourite snacks when watching a movie you leave being entertained rather than leaving being bored out your brains or no idea as to what you were watching. For those out there giving it a 1 or 2 I hope you haven't seen all the Mission Impossible films or perhaps 007 films as I'm sure you would also be saying " hey that would never happen".... Well when I go to a movie with a good story line I go with an open mind and I'm there to enjoy the movie for what it is and that's exactly what this movie delivers, good story line, good acting, good filming and yes I was being entertained which is why I was there in the first place, a bit of an escape from all the crap that's happening in the world. Yes the film has taken its path from a variety of other films but it's still a really good watch and coming up with a solution to a problem which is impossible but takes one of the main characters a few minutes to resolve is all part of the fun watching as I don't dissect every frame of content. This is a really good film, which, when I watched, left me smiling and a good happy feeling of "yeah I enjoyed that" rather than other movies whereby I lost the plot and came out more fed up than when I went in.

Wonderful.. Watch It
18 November 2020
I don't write reviews very often as seeing other reviews on other films/series it's often a 1 don't bother or 9-10 look past the criticisms and enjoy it. This is something else, I can't explain how good this series is other than saying it's one of the best I've ever seen. Looking at some of the other reviews it appears I'm not alone. It's tremendous in every way and if the writer or actors involved don't get awards then there's no justice. Also the camera work... I can go on and on and on but the review would be too long. It's a masterpiece so watch it.

A Must Watch- Yeah Really
22 March 2020
One of those films that has genuine history and a story that needs to be told. But when you tell the story you have to make it interesting enough to make you think I'm glad I saw it and at the same time entertaining enough to keep you interested. I'm pleased to say this ticks all the boxes. Samuel L Jackson is made for a role like this. Just watch it with an open mind and then judge. I don't give 10 out of 10 only on the basis that I've never seen a film that truly deserves it, I'm not sure when that'll be but when I see the film I'll give it hence 9 as it's that good in my opinion.

Can't Believe The Hype
12 March 2020
It's won best picture for 2020 along with other awards so seeing all the hype I am really looking forward to seeing this masterpiece.... WOW, was I disappointed. Yes, it's a good film, funny, silly, good acting (not all) etc but "Best film " er no ... there are loads of good films equally as good as this but not worthy of the awards it's been given. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed it but films like 1917 are head and shoulders above this in every way. I know you can't compare the two films in their content but to get best film in my opinion is to tick all the boxes in all categories above the rest, yes??? well Parasite just doesn't do it.

Loved It
13 January 2020
Just seen the film and unlike others I'm way behind the rest and when it hit the screens. Like a lot of the people reviewing this film I saw Toy Story from when it first opened in cinemas, bought the original Toys for my children etc ( who are now adults). What I can't believe is the negative reviews. 1,2 and 3 have been excellent, but, like most films that continues for ever and a day this had to come to an end. Please, please, please don't make a 4,5,6 etc. As a film with a conclusion, at the heart of the story it hit all of my targets, you had funny, you had sad, you had action and a good story line in my opinion. The only thing which I wasn't happy with was the bodyguards of the so called baddie as they were very creepy and didn't need to be shown in this way, ( think back on the original Toy Story and the baddies, even though we knew they were on the wrong side of good, they were still ok characters without being creepy). As we knew this was the final chapter and how the toys sorted themselves out, I thought the last dialogue between Woody and Buzz said it all and left me happy with outcome. Many remarks have been made about Forky and being silly in its concept. I'm the wrong side of 60 and also made toys and as far as I'm concerned the toy that can can give you most enjoyment doesn't necessarily have to be a toy that comes out of a shop.

Disappointed
11 January 2020
The reviews are mixed as usual, but I must say I was really disappointed, it's a film that could have offered so much more but didn't deliver. Yes, it's the first day out on the road for our star and yes I'm sure if you're in this situation you can have empathy with the character and I'm sure it's a tough job with all sorts of challenges, but, and a big but, if this was my first day I think I'd throw in the towel. The story is awful and drags on and on. I know the language used in areas such as depicted is strong but come on!!! when every other word starts with an F then it gets boring and unnecessary. It's trying to be a different sort of cop movie which is to be applauded but sadly it doesn't do it. The concept is excellent and you can have violence, bad language and situations which creates tension but not in this way. First time in ages where I couldn't wait for it to finish

Could have been so much better
2 January 2020
Having seen the first showing when it was originally realised only to discover it was the 4th episode, I like most people was in Orr of the storyline as well as the amazing effects that we now all take for granted. I therefore had to see the final episode and what better I thought than in IMax 3D. I can only agree with the vast majority of the people who have already reviewed this film, the story line was poor, acting average and obviously wouldn't have happened if done by George Lucas. I've given it 4 due the special effects in IMax format and wonderful sound track that brings the film alive. Please, please, please let this be the end as I couldn't stand a miraculous resurrection of anyone of so called importance.

Entertaining - Definitely
19 December 2019
Having seen the previous one which of course is a must in order to understand what's going on, I found the follow up above to be thoroughly entertaining. I saw this in IMax 2D therefore the big screen and sound gave it extra appeal. I'm not a Rock fan but I thought his performance along with the storyline of the characters very good and made me laugh on several occasions. It's a bit of fun with good effects and twists in the tale. I left the cinema in good spirits which in my opinion is one of reasons of going to the movies, that is being entertained.

And the person whodunnit is.......??????
15 December 2019
Above average film whereby I enjoyed the fact that a film like this gets released in the first place. So your settling down in trepidation of what's to come and to work out all the computations of whodunnit, but unfortunately I was so disappointed as it could have been so much better. Sorry Daniel Craig fans but that accent was terrible. If that accent was so important to the character then I'm sure there are loads of actors out there that could have done a better job than Craig. The rest of cast were OK but nothing special. I've seen better whodunnits with just as good but less known actors with better plots on TV. It wasn't a waste of money that some reviews suggest. Was the plot obvious? well it wasn't to me but the so called "twist" wasn't anything special or a "took my breath away in amazement moment " I'm still glad I went to see it as it was entertaining for me and I go to the movies to be entertained.

Superb
20 November 2019
As a petrol head I suppose I'm biased and although I wouldn't have chosen the two main actors in their roles I'm so glad they did as both were just brilliant. From start to finish it was telling the story but without any frills bells or whistles. It's a story of friendship and passions when a lump of metal with a beautiful sounding engine grips you and becomes part of your life. The photography was as it should be and wonderfully put together. I saw this at an I MAX sitting at the back and with accompanying soundtrack made my day. I'm sure the purists will find fault somewhere but for me seeing a picture like this, in this format is what it's all about and ticked all of my boxes.

A Must Watch
22 October 2018
A wonderful low budget film that has been acted superbly considering none are actors but playing themselves in this heartwarming film. Brilliantly directed, as I say a must watch.
