The Last Kingdom (2015)
A FANTASTIC SHOW! DON'T MISS IT.
A wonderful TV series. Wonderful characters, both male and female. Terrific story about King Alfred's vision to create a United England while it's under threat from Dane invaders.
It moves at a wonderful pace with our hero, Uhtred, torn between Dames and Saxons. All the characters are well rounded, make mistakes and are funny! This is not a show which is so heavy on history that it forgets that their characters are human and would find moments of humour even, or especially, in the middle of a fight.
Wonderful battles where you feel right on the middle of the action, love and loss, it's all there. Highly recommend. One of the few shows that I've watched all 3 seasons multiple times. 4th season filming now so make sure to catch up.
A Discovery of Witches: Episode #1.3 (2018)
Another great episode!
If you enjoyed Episode 2 you will love this one! Another great romantic ending bringing them to a turning point in the main characters' relationship. Probably the best screen kiss ever. You will find yourself rewatching, its irresistible.
A major gripe of fans of this genre is the speed at which characters fall for each other. However, I urge you to read the Deborah Harkness trilogy as there are many reasons for this, which are only revealed once you're read all three books. It's just something you have to accept and move past when there are only 8 episodes in a season.
A Discovery of Witches: Episode #1.2 (2018)
A beautiful episode
My favourite episode of the series. We meet some new characters, both good and bad. Matthew and Diana's relationship begins to grow and become more intimate. We find out more about Matthew's history and it has the most wonderful, sensuous ending to an episode you've ever seen (except for Ep3!).
It's engaging drama with interesting, adult characters. It's romantic with humour and just great, watchable TV (and I'm not a huge vampire/fantasy fan usually). It needed more episodes to fully capture the story but I defy you not to love Ep 2.
A Discovery of Witches: Episode #1.1 (2018)
Finally, a vampire series for adults!
I'm not into vampire themed shows or books usually, but this is great. I only wish they'd had at least 10 episodes for S1 to do it justice. Any shortcomings can be traced to a lack of time.
Matthew Goode was born to play Matthew Claimont (hot as hell) and Teresa Palmer is very engaging as Diana. It just gets better and better as the series goes on. Books are a must read.
