Hoo boy where do I even begin? The blatant caricature of autism, the use of restraint during a meltdown, the fact the autistic character isn't played by an autistic actor, that weird subplot where the father kills the kid by the end of it and doesn't face any repercussion subplot that has very little to do with the actual movie...
It's one flaming train wreck after the other, and either sia or whoever was writing the script either think this is how autism genuinely is, or is just too stupid and incompetent to use google. Probably both.
The plot is surface level at best, I mean, drug user trying to get her life back on track while caring for mentally disabled younger sister? Could it be anymore obvious it wants an Oscar if it tries?
Autism isn't all sunshine and glitter and rainbows like sia likes to portray it as. She had the opportunity to use Music's character to demonstrate the struggles someone like Music would face day to day from sensory sensitivity to social isolation. But no, Music is little more than a living prop for the other characters, and we got stuck with this monstrosity.
