Promising Young Woman (2020)

Not for me - Awkward

I'm apparently in the minority here, but I didn't enjoy this movie at all. The lead character was fairly unhinged, making no excuses for her weird behavior, but overall the acting and feel of the movie aren't great. The best actors were her parents and her boss at the coffee shop, who play minor roles. People said there was a surprise ending, but I thought it was just more of the awkward and overdramatic. Later in the movie, there's almost a spoof feel, like from Another Scary Movie. I like the idea of justice and revenge, but this movie didn't come close to seeming real. It's like the emotions behind the idea are very believable, but the lead acting from Carey Mulligan kept pulling me out of it, making me think about how uncomfortable the movie was.

Don't Understand Low Ratings

I don't understand the extremely low ratings on this movie. I watched it guardedly since the IMDB was lower than I expected it to be, but I also understand that movies that having an online streaming debut don't get anywhere close to the high ratings they deserve until a lot later after they've come out. So watch the movie like I did, and I think you'll enjoy it. It might not be a full ten star movie in reality, but it is good and interesting and the folks giving it a one to five star rating have lost their marbles. There are ups and downs, twists and turns, and I would watch this movie again.

Come As You Are (2019)

Fun Movie

I wasn't sure what to expect starting this movie (which is usually a good way to enjoy something - start with low expectations), but it ended up making me feel almost all of my feelings. I really enjoyed it and would watch it again.

Squid Game (2021– )

Not as good as expected and an eye rolling ending

The first and last episode are the weakest (least good), and the middle episodes are decent to good. But with the lame ending, it dropped the rating for me significantly. Hopefully this review will help you lower your expectations and you will enjoy it more than I did.

Dark Side of the Ring (2019– )

Great Show!

I love this show, it's very interesting. I hope they're able to keep making it and haven't run out of "dark" material.

The Grinch (2018)

I really enjoyed this movie. I was reluctant to watch it with such low reviews, but after I saw that many reviewers seemed to love the original cartoon and didn't like that this version was a little different, I gave it a go. As a kid watching the original Grinch cartoon, I always thought he was too mean anyway. He's no angel in this version, but I enjoyed all the extra cuteness this version added (that is apparent from the commercials). The look and feel of this movie reminds me of Nightmare Before Christmas in a few of the parts, and the animation was eye candy for me. It's not as perfect of a movie as Nightmare Before Christmas is, but it is good.

Hoff the Record (2015– )

Already watched it twice!

I'm surprised that this show doesn't have a higher rating at this time than 6.9! It's definitely a bit goofy, but not slapstick. The ridiculous situations that Hoff gets into, like auditioning to be in a movie about himself cracked me up. Hoff's driver is definitely weird, but if you've seen him in other shows like People Just Do Nothing, you'll look forward to all the crazy stuff he says. I've enjoyed it more the second time around, since I knew the odd stuff that was coming my way. I recommend giving this show a watch, and hopefully they'll make more than two seasons!
