Usually, i try to write a review as soon as possible not to miss out on anything and give the movie full credit, however in this case I wanted to sleep through it because I wanted to forget some parts.
Brahmastra is an attempt by director Ayan Mukherjee to create an Indian cinema giant that could potentially be a rival to Marvel or DC. However, given the current state after part one I feel a lot of work has to be done.
The movie sets a great premise about the Astraverse where they have a great story. The only problem I saw was Ayan Mukherjee's direction. The reason is when you know the star cast includes RK, Alia, AB, Nagarjuna, SRK, and Dimple Kapadia you expect nothing but a masterpiece however Ayan Mukherjee managed to still screw it up. The movie starts on a great note with the AB prologue and SRK being awesome SRK, however as soon s the camera moves to Ranbir and Alia, the bar drops exponentially. The amount of effort the movie has taken to show romance is ridiculous.
I believe at this age the audience expects subtleness, cues, and mystery however Ayan Mukherjee believes in oversimplifying things for which he has to get 5 more characters just for 5 minutes explanation. The only time the movie became interesting was when they either talked about the Astras or When Junoon (Mouni Roy) was on screen, Junoon, Zor, and Raftaar are the only people in the movie who seem to know what they are doing. Amitabh Bachmann who is playing guruji is more cueless than Alia.
Overall tell movie ends with some hope because we know apart from all the Bollywood giri, the premise is set for a bigger stage. I hope Karan Johar replaces Ayan M with some other director and they sign a good start to play the antagonist (DEV) in the sequel. I hope it is Mohit Raina. Overall the story was great, the acting was mediocre (not SRK, Nagarjuna, and Mouni), dialogues were horrible.
