Though I like this film it is oddly reminiscent of the Parallax View, which indeed is a bit darker but still refers to the main plot point, that life isn't without its controls
The controls mean there are controllers and in this movie, like the Parallax View, they act secretly with little to no impunity.
The difference is the outright malevolence of this hidden group in power in this movie is much more murky
Both movies argue that free will isn't as free as we think it is; and that being free one has to give up some of the creature comforts that a system provides and live more daringly
The real truth is most don't to live truly free, a satiated life is usually an easy one.
