An update to a dry classic
3 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Im a big scifi fan, but let's be honest, Asimov's writing is dry, and has poor character development. His foundation series reads more like a history textbook. I honestly couldn't get through half of the first foundation book even though I really really wanted to read the series.

I'm excited that I can now finally experience this classic even if it is not exact from source. I suspect the general theme has been kept intact. If not, well the new feel is pretty great. I find the jumping around to be a little confusing but I'm sure (like with Westworld) it will all come together. I like shows that make me think a bit.

Things I really liked. 1. The range of diversity and especially women being more equally represented as scientist and leaders. (A lot of classic scifi is pretty misogynistic and needed updated to appeal to modern viewers). 2. The character development and dialog is superior over the book (at least what I read). 3. They didn't add too much sexy stuff. I find adding sex scenes to be pretty cheap and sort of used as a desperate act to attract viewers. (My opinion only.) 4. Visuals. Design. Sets. All great.

Things I didn't like.

1. Why does brother Day wear armor.? That seems unlikely. Makes him stand out too much from the other two brothers. Makes him look like he should be riding around on a horse or a chariot.

2. Brother Day comes off as a bit sadistic and aggressive. Though the other brothers don't. If they wanted to make brother Day hostile and aggressive, they should make at least the dawn also a bit aggressive/arrogant.

It just doesn't make sense they start sweet, turn mean, then turn sweet again. Temperament is a pretty stable personality trait throughout lifespan.

Other than that. My last comment is in regard to low ratings on here and elsewhere.

I am under the impression a few big changes have been made in the video series, but probably for the best. For those who are angry about the new direction, ask yourself. 1. Do you really want to watch something that you already know exactly how it will go? 2. Do you really want a history lesson or would you rather have a drama with characters you care about? 3. You realize it is impossible for the creators of this show to make it match your own unique vision, right?

I've read a lot of books that are tv series and movies. You need to step back and acknowledge they aren't the same. They can't be. And just appreciate them each separately from each other. That way you can enjoy them and not get so mad.

Hope it gets renewed

I've watched the first 6 episodes so far. I think the story line is good and the casting is fab. I think the show explores a lot of social restrictions and thinking from this era in an accurate way. The story of Jack Parsons is an interesting one, and it works well as a TV series.

It's not heavy on shock value (lazy writing) which could have been a problem with the topics of occult and sex parties. I think the pace is a little slower than I would like but it's acceptable. Surprised by the low rating as this show is definitely higher quality than most of the stuff that is out there. Most comments are favorable.
