Random Acts of Violence (1999)
Zero Expectations, Perfect Execution
"Random Acts of Violence", alternatively titled as "Fastlane" is officially my favorite movie. When UCLA freshman Chris makes a sex joke during lecture, he becomes friends with a dimwitted douchebag who invites him to a local mansion party. After falling in with the wrong crowd (and bailing on a potential porno foursome), his new friends take I'm on a wild night of drunkenness, robbery, drive by shooting, and smoking weed out of a bong filled with milk (which makes it sweeter, apparently).
"Fastlane" has some of the most realistic dialog, as if real people were really talking. This gives the film a very unique slice of life feel, and truly makes you sympathetic towards the characters.
Every scene is a masterpiece of realism, and each character feels fleshed out. Each element has set up and payoff. Every character nearly gets raped or shot. And you always know what time it is thanks to aggressive title cards.
I love you, Drew Bell, please be my dad.
