People Just Do Nothing: Big in Japan (2021)
Well done and thank you to all involved.
PJDN is the best TV comedy of the last decade.
It's incredibly difficult to transition a show to the big screen and I thought they did a really good job of it. Having seen it now it makes sense WHY they did another chapter as a movie.
Some have said they were just happy to see them again and I think that sentiment is really on point. Having another chapter and having it being bold enough to add what they did should be commended.
I really dislike 'purists' for TV shows who will try and show they are the real fan or something by saying that it was only good in the beginning.
It must be very difficult to keep things fresh and move things along. That can't be done by just staying the same, and so do you want more than the first series or would you rather repeatedly watch the first minute of the first episode?
I was sceptical about the attempt at a film but was never going to just bash what they tried. I expected a certain amount of enjoyment from it whatever it was like and I got that. It could definitely have been worse.
I laughed quite a lot, and was never bored as the story flowed.
I wasn't disappointed by the ending and them not performing at the concert. It was GOOD that Grindah doesn't sell-out, and that they eventually keep it real by simply performing the track among themselves together and happily.
They went on a journey (not just literally) and ended up who they really are.
Chabuddy was not quite right in it and his usually hilarious character didn't quite work for me and it felt like he had become a bit of a caricature.
I am not criticising though as obviously he had to be in it and it had to be ridiculous that he was there with no actual purpose. I get it, but it's where the film does suffer a bit.
Overall a worthy addition and just nice to have had something more that could never be accused of being the same thing as the series all over again.
Some fans will definitely love it and that means it's a success, some will be purists and hate it but who cares, and others will have a balanced perspective and ultimately appreciate it regardless of any flaws to nitpick in either the concept or the content.
Ted Lasso (2020)
First series is a decent watch but hasn't got the legs.
I quite enjoyed series one.
I mean it's ridiculous in every way and not that funny really but is a nice enough watch. I began series two glad that it had come back and oh dear!
Something stupid and completely unrealistic like this can't sustain itself with going even further to be stupid and unrealistic unless it's very funny and it isn't.
When I was watching episode two of series two something snapped in me and I felt a disconnect to the whole thing. By the end of episode four I actually hate it now!
It feels like it would probably appeal to people who are not football fans and view the players as caricatures and stereotypes anyway.
The premise at the beginning is nonsense followed by a bit more nonsense and then add on the nonsense characters in the team and it is not good.
Roy Kent is not hard he just growls every line.
I would rather see a series about a football club where the owner is unhinged and loans his Harry Kane out to a non league club for demanding to leave in the middle of a contract!
Ted Lasso should have been a mini series with a point to it, but allowing it to ramble on like a sitcom was a bad idea and it feels more stretched by the episode.
8.7? One of the greatest sitcoms of all time?
Ridiculous.
The Children (2008)
A more accurate title would be....
The shrieking, shouting, squealing, screeching, sniffling, moaning, whining, annoying bloody children would be my choice for title.
I am sure most UK parents will be able to tolerate this as they seem to love the sound of kids like this making loads of pointless noise anyway, but I had to watch this film on mute or JUST above for the most part.
The adults in the film are not much better, and when they aren't screaming themselves they tend to walk VERY slowly towards the child saying their name repeatedly to eat up time.
Oh and there is a teenage girl dressed like a prostitute if that is your thing.
The only film to ever make me feel ill. Not fom the 'horror' but from the noise of it.
Watch on mute, or better yet don't watch at all.
The Strangers (2008)
Not many films ever made as bad as this
This is pretty much the lowest of the low in tems of movie standard.
I never go as low as two stars and don't know what's stopping me going to one star and is really testing my limits.
I see people use the word terror when describing it.
There is none at all.
There is nothing as a vewer to be scared of at any point.
Many before me have explained why it's ridiculous in every scene and I only stuck with it to see how bad the ending would inevitably be.
I honestly cannot believe it gets anyone scared or entertained and is right down there with the worst films I have ever seen,
No worries about nightmares for me tonight after watching this boring farce of a horror film.
The Babadook (2014)
1*/10*? Get a grip!
The moral of the metaphor is to contain your mental demons and feed them worms!
Why can't films have a proper ending?
The first 20% is a big worry due to the annoyance level of the son.
The next 50% is too slow as we find the point.
The next 20% is alright when the mother is 'posessed'.
The last 10% spirals into the merely stupid, culminating in an ending that is a joke.
If the demon or whatever it is had made her fulfill her destiny and ended bleakly it would have been worthwhile, but no the end has to be happy.
The fact that the mother resents the son and is irriatated by him as anyone should be, means we have all this other stuff about a book etc... that is supposed to be manifested in reality which creates what we actually see.
It was presented too literal to be actually metaphorical.
So in a literal sense the demon is a joke who can be shouted down and contained, in a metaphorical one you just get on with it as it's your child and you put up with it.
But this is supposed to be a film that thrills/scares and so the whole thing is a cop out at the conclusion.
It treats the viwer as a child and says 'you must not kill your annoying child' and 'contain your demons'. But this is supposed to be something that pushes beyond and says 'what if?'
She should have strangled him when she had him by the thoat, being staisfied the demon leaves and she realises what she has done and cuts her throat. Credits.
No need to kill the dog, as it didn't whine and shriek like the boy. So to run through it again, yes kill the boy as you she had all the reasons to, no kill the dog as she had no reason....
The rest of it, books and visions of an ACTUAL demon and flickering lights was just the pretence of a movie being made.
