Suburban Girl (2007)
Listen to the wise man...
I title my comment on suburban girl film as 'Listen to the wise man, because Brett do the right thing about her father advice that cares for the future life of his daughter involving in a romance with and old man. I as a mother of a girl of 20 years old, really don't want that my child get romantic involved with a man that is 25 years older than her, and is a man that don't know anything about fidelity, is also diabetic and alcoholic, and a bad father too. The young girl for sure will want a baby in some years, and is not a good idea to get an old man as the father of his sons. Maybe is very rich and famous as a writer, but never has the value of being with only one woman, and he never been a good father with his own daughter that is the same age of Brett, his girlfriend. The couple play good their roles. Is a dramatic and ironic love story, that at the end rules what his wise father said to her before he died.
The Number 23 (2007)
Finally was funny.
Okay, maybe is a very strong thing to face in a life all things happened to Walter Sparrow, but the way Jim Carrey played this role, to me result a funny breath after all. The theme of the novel is very good and has much dramatic quality. When Carrey played the role of a father an his son, always associating all things happened with the number 23 is like a satire about how hard is life and how many human beings want to associate many facts with a symbol that give more understanding to each other in what do we have to do with our own existence. I really like Jim Carrey as an actor, but he surprising me playing a serious role. He always will be funny to me, no matter if he wants to play a suffer guy. Seeing his work is refreshing.
Everyone Stares: The Police Inside Out (2006)
Not commercial, but...
Just a few can catch the intensity of the film because as almost of Stewart's solo works, doesn't have a commercial value. Not even the derangements of the band's songs, which sound in a unique Copeland's style.
For me is an Avant-garde movie that reflects the marginalized his author has been, about the fact that the band he created "The Police" was stolen almost in all the image commercial credits, from another man (Stingo). Anyway the shots shows that the three band members liked each other, while they been together. If you see the movie, you can perceived the loneliness that feels a Rock Super Star, who are traveling from city to city, and many time, his life goes days, weeks or months, inside an Hotel room. Many shots are through the windows from hotels in the cities where he was, showing the band crew, just passing one from another, like ghosts in live machine. The quickly shots are also avant-garde, showing how life are just breaths of someone who can perceived in all its intensity, what happen with his soul/inner I, living all these experiences. For me this film is a masterpiece of the inside of a successful band, but as a matter of fact, every shot is opposed to mainstream commercial values, so just a few people will understand it, at least nowadays.
PS-June-7-2007. He also played very good with colors in his movie, and seeing this, now I am thinking the movie has a very psychedelic effect...
The Da Vinci Code (2006)
Is good but.
The movie is goodie, but I think its just a medium value. My Mom love it and told me, if I can go with her to see the movie again. I saw it once and well, if they (the producers, writers and directors) want to tell all the people about how bad is the elite power of church, they don't have to include things from Jesus Christ. Is like they want to make a bad testimony with science fiction and magic. I think it doesn't matter if Jesus loved a woman, because one man that recognized the power of women since then, was him, but from that, than to say he and Mary Magdalene, had children together, was not a good thing for the believers, because it could offended many people. The whole story need to be more polished, more deep in its meanings, to indicate precisely what they want to criticized. If they want to tell bad things about Opus Dei, they have to be more clear in their assumptions, and leave Jesus Christ's philosophy alone.
Silent Fall (1994)
I like the mystery music of Silent Fall.
I like mystery tales, and this one is very good. The music is very accurate with all the scenes, and yes, I feel transported to this inner boy world. Very Strange Things happen in this movie, but yes, I think kind of things like this happen in reality, even worst. At least in Mexico all the time happens wild things with people more than in nature by itself. The actors plays their roles very well. Since long time ago, I didn't see Richard Dreyfuss, and was a pleasure for me, to see this actor again. Linda Hamilton had a very short role, but Liv Tyler is awesome. Maybe sometimes sounds like illogical, specially when the witness boy, make all this voices. Looks like unreal, but maybe this could happen. Anyway, I found this movie, because I'm always looking for Stewart Copeland music, since many years ago...
'Rumble Fish': The Percussion-Based Score (2005)
Awesome
The percussion on this score is awesome. Gives to much vitality into the movie story. High class music just for selected ears. I hope that many people could feel all the happiness that I feel every time I hear it. The catchy sounds are always drums, so I hope Stewart Copeland never stops making music with More Drums Please! I like all the songs, but my favorites are: Don't Box Me In. Tulsa Tango. Our Mother is alive, etc. Thinking it better, I can't select just two, three or four, cause I love it all. Really, if you want to get spiritual high with music, you have to hear Rumblefish music. And the film with this excellent score, direction, black & white effects with little color on the fishes, results very groovy, after and with all its elements. And the special identity of I insist are Drums. To me, Stewart Copeland is the best musician in humankind history.
Europa Europa (1990)
I like it.
I saw this movie, and I like it very much.
I am high school professor and always in contact with teenagers, and in this movie, the main role is how a teenager can survive in war situations, when all the things seems to go against him, as he is swimming against the river, just to survive.
Sometimes he lived cruel situations, but how this Jewish guy face his problems during world war II, becomes really extraordinary.
I felt the pain intensity, anxiety and also his guilt, although it would not dare to me to judge his behavior because maybe in his situation, I will do the same, no matter if I have to go against my education values and beliefs.
For me as for him, the most important value is staying alive at any prize.
Deep soul movie.
Rumble Fish (1983)
Great movie.
I think Rumblefish is a great movie that show us the power of gangs in 80's. I am still loving the work of many artists, like Matt Dillon, Diane Lane, Dennis Hooper, and also Mickey Rourkey, with his soft voice and great personality. But definitely the think that I most like it is how accurate was the music score with all scenes. Also loved the black & white effect, in a period where color movies are very important.
I remembered when I saw this movie for the first time, everybody was clapping at the end (teens), with the song 'Don't Box Me In.
Now I have the DVD and is a treasure for me, cause Rumblefish represents a cult for my memories.
The Rhythmatist (1985)
About The Rhythmatist,
It is an extraordinary documentary about music & Africa. I love the film. I saw it many times, since I bought it a long time ago. I love to see My Music Superman deeply involved as an archaeologist guy. I never went to Africa, but this was an amazing way to get a little bit in touch with that part of our world. The important thing, is that Stewart turns into art some of his selected life experiences. He has a unique perspective and turns it in Magic, transforming his pilgrim experiences into musical art and was very funny and good for me, see his work. I feel very happy making contact with his essence through his records. I also loved to see the African animals in a safety way for me. The thing I like it the most is when I see Stewart Copeland, riding and running his horse, but between giraffes. As he said, he felt like he was riding in slow motion action, but all was a real experience. ¡Bravo!
PS. Thinking more about Rhythmatist now I want to talk about people in Africa. Is good to see how they live there and Stewart as an anthropology man involved with people just like another human being. He played his music there, listened to their music, and also danced in an African party between them.
Is like he is taking profit to his life opportunities, (I understand better this thanks to some writes of veil of ignorance. Rawls.) to share trough or across his art, to all people who likes and follow his music and film paraphernalia.
