The Calling (I) (2014)

I was rooting for the Serial Killer in the end.

Although we as viewers had to fill in many gaps this movie is well worth a watch. Made a refreshing change from the usual serial killer plot. In any other movie the outcomes of certain scenes would have been easily predictable. Basically it's about an aspect of the Bible that was never committed to written text and a man driven by love who seeks to correct a societal injustice which resulted in the death of someone very close to him. The serial killer was far removed from the usual Hollywood stereotype to the extent that in one of the final scenes the outcome was completely unpredictable while at the same time completely understandable. It reminded me ( loosely in the end ) of Medicine Man.

Perhaps these reviewers wanted the usual superhuman acts and animal transformations. It was a love story and the ending came as a surprise because the 2 hours seemed to flash by. I wanted more. It was refreshing to watch a story without the usual vampire rubbish. The most interesting aspect was the overwatch of our cultural and scientific development by these people. Haven't we wondered just how ideas come into being. How some individuals inject new concepts that change the course of history while the rest just wander like 'zombies'. Perhaps there are immortals who try to inspire and guide us but they would need ultimate patience because the 'zombies' just keep on repeating the same mistakes.

Wow !!

This one has to achieve cult status. I kinda hope the ending wasn't what I think it was but a few more views should do it. Forget time paradoxes ( as in Primer ). This movie was all about US and what makes us us. I think mega millions on specials effects would have only distracted us from the core of the movie. Something just nudged Shawshank from the top of my list. Different movie so let's say equal first place. I apologise for not providing the usual structured and more eloquent review but I just had to say 'something'. I believe this is my first ever IMDb movie review and I doubt there will ever be another from me.

A businessman's view

I guess we just haven't been out of our caves long enough if these depraved specimens of human kind still walk among us. Whereas I could happily watch the traffickers neck deep in an ant nest there was one aspect that seemed a little odd. The price paid for these women seemed way low considering the ROI. I am naive enough to hope for some black ops assassin squad to clean up some of these slavers and at least put some mortal fear into the rest. Shame is that, as usual, those in power are usually enmeshed in this disgusting tapestry. An excellent film that is unfortunately wasted on the likes of us. We will be appalled then dismayed to the point of tears then look for the nearest comedy.
