The Changeling (2023)
You should know that season 2 is not guaranteed and season 1 doesn't have an ending
I can't stand it when they create a series like this. Everything ends in confusion and chaos and then when season 2 doesn't get the green light it just stands alone as a hot mess for all eternity.
This series started out STRONG. The first 4 episodes were well paced, intriguing and suspenseful. And the plot twist was like a gut punch.
But then it started to go off on like three other story lines that you have to sit through just to get back to the main story line that you can't stop wondering about. And then episode 7 went complete arthouse. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against arthouse, I just thought I was watching horror thriller. It was unexpected and WEIRD.
And then finally episode 8 picked up the pace and I was so thrilled to finally be getting close to some answers and then...it ends just as things are in mid swing. And then throws out some random images at the end that make absolutely no sense at all.
I really want my 8 hours back.
Servant (2019)
Such a good show
Even better when you watch it the second time. That is when you get the subtle nuances in the story lines and the characters. Absolutely loved the imagery and the set design. It told so much of the story. There's this tense and dark atmosphere that is set up in the first episode and it gets carried the whole way through the series. It's also a show that the more you analyse it the more you will get it out of it in terms of the character and the script It's a TV series that has the quality of a feature film. I hope they do a spin off show with Julian because he was so enjoyable to watch and they have an amazing formula that would be too good to waste.
From (2022)
Watchable but it's obvious where they are
The characters are intriguing and the story line is tight and convincing. It's a little bit unnerving how many of the plot lines from Lost they have borrowed but yeah ok. Unlike Lost, I can't see why anyone would struggle to understand where they are. You've got a bunch of atheists, a Buddhist or two, a morally bankrupt preacher in a town with no bibles, demons that torment them nightly and horrific personally crafted delusions to torture them individually. Hmmm I wonder.
Unforgotten (2015)
Extremely addictive
I've really enjoyed all 4 seasons. Excellent plot, interesting characters and moves along at just the right pace. Not your typical British whodunnit. A very well made and gripping show which sits at the top of it's genre.
The Gulf (2019)
No personality or charm
There's nothing original about this series and it's a hard watch because there are no likeable characters. I just don't understand how she could ever possibly get clearance to go back to work in her state and it's strange that it's never discussed.
Maid (2021)
Couldn't stop watching it
This was great on so many levels. An honest and raw depiction of how hard it is for single mum's to get ahead in life. Brilliant depiction of the subtle but devastating impact of emotional DV. Too often filmmakers go for violent DV because of its visual impact but emotional DV is so much more common and just as damaging.
The Guilty (2021)
Boring and frustrating
So this whole movie is basically Jake sitting on the phone for 90 minutes. He doesn't go anywhere. You don't get to see who he's talking to. It felt kinda
like being stuck in a traffic jam.
Midnight Mass (2021)
Too slow
I would have absolutely given this a 9 if it was only 4 episodes long. Sure it wasn't the most original plot, but it had a really atmospheric mood, the scenery was great and the narrative was strong. I got so sick of the long winded overly dramatic and totally pointless monologues. Ugh!
Crime Scene: The Vanishing at the Cecil Hotel (2021)
4 hours was excessive
I only watched episode 1 and 4 and I strongly urge you to do the same. They really dragged the story out, it was way too slow.
Bling Empire (2021)
Just 'ok'
It had some real potential but then they bring it down to that boring fake drama level of Bravo. Disappointing. Can't believe they stole the whole fertility story line from the two asian characters in Lost. Lol!
The Rain (2018)
It started off well
The first season was really quite good. It was well paced, engaging and atmospheric. It really nailed the whole B grade apocalyptic sci fi thing. But the second season was terrible. Overly dramatic and sentimental with characters that you know are just going to die so why do it? And the sci fi stuff just gotore implausible by the minute. One minute he's contagious, then he's not. Then the virus kills some people but not others. It was all very silly in the end.
Don't F**k with Cats: Hunting an Internet Killer (2019)
Ewww, disgusting
Even to verbally DESCRIBE someone physically abusing a kitten is gratuitously violent and sickening. The makers have stooped to a really low level in the name of 'entertainment'.
Malevolent (2018)
The second half of the film was a let down
The first half of this film exceeded all of my expectations. Really quirky and engaging. Had high hopes. But then the second half was just awful. The mother and son characters were so predictable and ridiculous. It's like the writers didn't even try. And what, did the son only get a few years time for murdering three little girls?? Seriously?
Dead Lucky (2018)
Painful to watch
Wooden acting and implausible storylines. So much potential but the end result is just cringe worthy.
