Kingdoms of Fire (2019)
All the money and non of the substance
All I have to say is that when people put money and sincerity into a production, the outcome is usually legendary. MBC produced the Omar series some years back, and that was absolutely amazing. A Turkish series on Ertugrul and Osman has also been causing sensation throughout the world for many years.
This series had the money and potential to do much. But the reality is that those behind it had just one intention behind it. To misrepresent history, to misrepresent the Islamic Ottoman civilisation.
And ofcourse, the Saudis who funded this series would want to misrepresent the history. They are regarded as traitors to the Islamic Ottoman state. It was largely through their conniving that the Ottoman empire came crashing down.
Missed opportunity, but then when your own history is mired in corruption, how can you produce something of great appeal and substance?
XIII: The Conspiracy (2008)
Bourne identity done really badly
I began watching this thinking it had potential. The plot starts almost identical to the Bourne Identity film. Special ops guy, mad skills, lost his memory, taken in by kind strangers, people trying to kill him, meets strange but beautiful european chick who helps him.
But its badly filmed and badly acted. the emotion is not there, the suspense is missing, and the dialogue is diabolical. When you see actors tying hard to act, rather than characters in a show with substance, you dont buy the story.
This had potential but has been let down by poor script writing and really bad directing.
