Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021)
This sucked.
I grew up, loving comic books. At my peak. I had a couple thousand. I really enjoyed comic book movies at first, superhero movies. But the life really has gone out of them now. They become so soulless. Lifeless.
The goofy sidekick was terrible. Over the top. Silly for every moment. Way too big for the dramatic moments. Just offensively bad acting. Just terrible acting.
The leading man was slightly better, but still pretty hollow of a performance. Slightly above movie of the week kind of acting. Which is sad, considering how much time they take filming these kinds of movies.
It was never funny enough to make me laugh. It was never intense enough to get my pulse up.
Some aspects of the story were so stupid, even the 12 year old me would not have enjoyed this one.
Trinket Box (2023)
One of the most boring movies I've seen in a long time
This film is so darn boring! I watched for so long, and was wondering why nothing happened as my pulse had slowed to a stable low rate for a long time. I looked at the time and realized I was an hour into this film. An hour in, and nothing at all had happened.
They hadn't done anything to make it like the characters. No plot development, and less you think making out in a shower with your clothes on the character development. But to me, that's not real character development, just some amateur idea of what character development should look like.
I don't get how Tubi can decide that something like this is worth changing to it to be original so they can have the exclusive rights to it for a while. It's so unoriginal that nothing happens. You Gotta be a special kind of terrible for that to be the case.
I put spoilers in this review, but even as I pause the movie 2/3 of the way done I can't even remember what I just watched that's how boring it is.
The Exorcists (2022)
Great Indie Horror Comedy
I loved this movie.
It's lower budget, but that's part of teh charm.
Most low budget movies suffer from a number of things, and I should know, I watch a lot of low budget indie movies.
Most suffer from zero character arcs, bad concepts/storylines, or good concepts/storylines but with slow pacing, bad cinematography, terrible acting and just boring. So many lower budget movies are boring.
Not The Exorcists. Each scene is faced paced, well written, the acting is solid all the way through (especially for the budget), the character arcs are fun, the leads have wonderful lighthearted chemistry.
I also enjoyed how the film takes place during Covid, but doesn't choose a side. It makes fun of both Liberals and Conservatives. The two leads represent modern Liberals and Conservatives, and they have to come together to save the world. I think that's a nice idea these days.
This film is definitely worth watching.
House of the Dragon (2022)
This is like the CW pg version of Game Of Thrones
The original series is so much better than this. In Game of Thrones, the conversations were the action scenes. Characters subtlety and sometimes not so subtlety jousting each other with words. Each character flushed out and vivid. Every episode ending with you on the edge of your seat, wanting to know what was going to happen the next week. The focus was jumping around from character to character never quite crossing the line to too much, but competently communicating the story with multiple focuses.
House of the dragon, on the other hand, doesn't have very vivid characters. The uncle character is obviously the most interesting, but other than that everybody's kind of boring. The conversations are definitely not like action scenes, as they are bland and boring themselves. You've taken Game of Thrones and turned it into a coming of age drama. The focus constantly stays on the most boring repetitive characters, who barely move the story forward as they keep doing and saying the same things over and over again. How this has such a high rating, I have no idea.
Jeepers Creepers: Reborn (2022)
The only thing killed in this movie is the series
It's so stupid I can't see them making any more.
It's not scary. It's not funny. The leading man acts like he's in a Hallmark movie.
The festival of creeper fans is just the stupidest direction they could go in for the movie.
It has every horror stereotype with nothing special about it.
There's nobody to identify with. The acting is awful. The plot is stupid.
The first two were pretty good. Pretty damn good. The third was good enough you could feel some of what you felt from the previous two.
This one....this one....is soo much worse. It would almost be funny if it wasn't so lame and sad.
Stay away, unless you want to see the death of what was once a good franchise.
Venom: Let There Be Carnage (2021)
This is what they came up with for 110 million dollars??!!
They made better movies in the 90's with a couple million. Roger Corman made better movies than this.
What a mess! Tom Hardy is the worst actor in this by far. He's even hard to understand because his vocal choices are so off.
The plot is barely coherent,
Conversations whiz by with nobody even stopping to think about what they say first. When a conversation doesn't have a timing that mimics real talking it becomes hard to follow and watch.
The whole thing is so cheesy it hurts. Venom movies should be R rated. The comics were dark. The character had an edge to it. Hooch in turner and hooch had more edge than venom does in this.
Just an awful movie.
The Batman (2022)
Robert P was the worst choice for Batman!!
Every single scene with him in it is one note. That's it. He says every single line the same way throughout the entire movie. They hired a guy, for millions, who said every line with a fake "tough guy voice" that was a mixture of bored and very fake tough. Every line and every scene he's in he acts that same way. It's soo boring. He killed any character arc he could have.
Lenny's daughter is the same as Catwoman. It's like a mediocre CW show as far as the acting goes.
Both the Joker and The Riddler act the same way. Crazy laughing and over the top bad guy. An over the top bad guy is never scary. More just silly. Both of them acted more crazy than Heath Ledger did as The Joker. Which is kind of ironic. He played crazy the best but the new Riddler has to act ten times crazier than even Joker? Why? The scene with both of them at the end you can't even tell who is who. When you're Riddler and Joker play their roles soo much the same it's very boring.
I love Batman. Loved the concept of this film. But that's it. It bored me to tears otherwise. Kept checking my watch. I guess I felt as sleepy as Batman acts the whole way through.
Painful to watch. Sad.
Run the Burbs: Blockbuster (2022)
Maybe turn the show into a drama....Cus it's a tragedy.
The plot was silly and not in a funny way.
The acting is so over the top and one note that it makes you cramp up inside.
When you think about how much money they spend on something like this, it's mind blowing.
This is what our taxpayer money goes into?
Run the Burbs (2022)
CBC Give me my tax dollars back!!
If that's how you're going to spend them, on this garbage, please can I have my money back?
Terrible acting. Terrible writing. Awful Casting.
And you can tell that nobody is watching based on the number of people who rated it on IMDB.
Every character is trying to "act the Sh## out of it". They're all one note and over the top.
Sad that this is what CBC is releasing. They used to be so much better than this.
The Wheel of Time (2021)
Nothing like the books at all.
I don't understand. They had the source material to make this great.
Bad writing. Bad acting. Bad casting.
This could have been another game of thrones. But it's just silly.
Disappointing.
Army of the Dead (2021)
When Dave B is your best actor, your movie is in trouble.
The acting in this is awful. Just sheer awful. It's stiff, one note and repetitive. The writing is pretty terrible too.
Other than having a terribly stupid script, a cast not even good enough to be in a Hallmark or Lifetime Movie of the week...it was fine. Lol.
Sasquatch (2021)
I feel ripped off
If they gave this a different title my review wouldn't be as low. It's very misleading to call it Sasquatch and have it be all about marijuana grow ops.
Call it "marijuana murder" and it'd get a much better score. And still plenty of hits.
Hellier (2019)
Could have been amazing....
I love topics like this. Goblins, aliens, ufo's and mysterious civilizations.
I watched this because I heard some of their interviews on shows like mysterious universe and astonishing legends.
The makers of this documentary need to watch more documentaries and take notes on what makes a good documentary, because my goodness they are not aware.
There is so much circling in this. They'll repeat a conversation over and over and over again until you stop caring.
Then they'll tell you their feelings about someone else's feelings who's telling you about the other persons feelings. By the time they move on to another point you're already soo bored.
I am not interested in techniques that aren't proven. I'd be much more creep-ed out by more interviews with local witnesses who've witnessed something weird then watching these guys put on their ghost hunting helmets and spew together random words.
Here's the thing, their ghost hunting equipment has not been properly tested. The one technique they use with the head magnet helmet has claims from the initial inventor that it works, but in all the tests on it since done by anyone with credentials have been unable to confirm that the helmet has any affect on the user at all. This means that there's a good chance that when they use these techniques they're just a couple nuts saying random things that come to mind and thinking they're talking with entities.
And jut by this being a possibility it's silly. If it's possible that the technique will look stupid to people watching, it would be smarter of them to stick with more factual evidence.
Historical accounts. Eye witness testimony. That seems to be the most of what they have that's at all credible. Exploring the suspicious locations more would be good.
When you start drawing lines across a map, well you can intersect the town to anything. Might as well draw a line from Hellier and connect it to the Sphinx in Egypt and be like "OMG this must be spiritually connected".
For this show to be good, they'd have to trim the fat, make it about an hour and a half long total. They'd have to stick with the most credible facts, the most interesting coincidences and then get rid of everything else.
This documentary series is just way too self indulgent.
The topic is great though. I'd love to learn more about this topic.
The Titan (2018)
Sam Worthington, Fine me and I can help you.
As the title says, Sam find me and I can help you. If you decide to not find me, find a reputable acting coach and go back to training for a few months....or as long as it takes for you to understand.
You're too old and too successful to not be making better choices for you dialogue delivery.
When you say a line playing the husband like "I love you", to your wife, while your characters are in a romantic setting in a pool, looking into each others eyes, you should put enough heart into that line that those watching feel a little swept away in the fantasy that is your characters love for each other. When you deliver a line like this properly it makes the viewer care about your two characters as a couple, they become invested in what happens for you as they become emotionally involved.
When you have a line as a father like "We come in peace earthling..." to your young son, the more fun and playful you are with your son, the more people will love your character. Both women and men can appreciate a dad who gets a little silly with his son, makes the silly alien voice and cracks his son up into laughter. That's the kind of dad people wish they had, the kind of character that will make people become emotionally attached to you. This helps later on in the movie when dramatic things happen to your character. It's what the writer put into the script to have people see your characters heart and fall in love with it. When you chose to keep lines like that pretty dead, not playful and not warm or natural and just say them with a pretty limited amount of any emotion, it just turns it all into a boring slog. We check our phones for what's happening on our facebook accounts...because you haven't hooked us into what's happening with you.
Every time you as an actor see a new sentence, you get to make all new choices for that sentence. If you keep choosing to say sentence after sentence with similar tone, timing and range as an actor you become soo boring to watch. Take a look at your favorite actors Sam. When you watch a masterful actor they change they're tone, speed and choices every sentence. They keep their choices exciting and as choices that serve the script and film. Choices like that as an actor are what can make a movie something you get lost in, or something that's just on in the background of your life until it's over and you've forgotten what it was about five minutes later.
When an actor like you gets paid as much as you do, you owe it to yourself, the industry and the craft of acting to do a better job than this. Please find a good acting coach, show them this work and ask them about how next time you can do the script better justice by making choices as an actor that have a range in them. Make your choices based on what's best for how you look as an actor and also choices that will be the best ones for the feature film...making it gripping and connecting....you'll find that both are the same.
I know you don't know me, but if you read this find that high rated acting coach and ask them. You have people offering you huge roles in huge projects. You owe it to yourself, you managed to get in a position in the industry where you get regular leading man work, now if you just put a little work into understanding your craft a little better, you could make movies like this one something sooo boring and forgettable into something gripping and interesting all the way through.
This film is boring because the leads failed to do anything with the script they were given. It's true, it wasn't the best script ever written, but it was worth more than what some of the actors put into it. It could have been interesting.
