Reptile (2023)
1/10
Disgrace to cinema
30 September 2023
Reptile is a cinematic atrocity that defies all expectations of quality. It's a disgrace to humanity that even the esteemed Benicio del Toro agreed to be part of this cinematic catastrophe. One can't help but wonder what compelled him to attach his name to such a grotesque pile of movie manure.

The film's plot is a convoluted mess, with poorly developed characters and a narrative so absurd it's almost comical-emphasis on "almost." The direction is lackluster, and the execution feels like a cruel joke played on the audience. It's astonishing that a movie with such a poor script and shoddy production values could ever see the light of day.

Reptile is a stain on the world of cinema, and its existence is a mystery that will leave you questioning how it ever got greenlit. Avoid it like the plague.

HBO MAX back on TOP!! Brooke delivers
28 November 2022
For months I had been wary with HBO max as they continued to put discovery channel trash into my feed. I'm there for quality films of all kinds and budgets, from art house to comic book to holiday rom com. And this one was up to snuff as far as HBO Max goes. Why? It's a cut above. Higher quality writing, acting, singing, etc. HBO always brings quality to the table and this movie was such a breath of fresh air. Script is a taught, well-written romp through a young singer's troubles. Acting is great, way better than typical for this genre, and the singing is off the charts. I had been worried about HBO but it looks like they are back on track. More of this A+ quality please!!

Really fun update!
16 December 2021
I really liked the first one and really enjoyed this update. Lauren and Josh are back and this time they head to the big city. Like the original, it's really fun and warm-hearted. This time there is some fun "wealth porn" and some additional relationship developments. The first one was really cute and fun but this one is better, more action but still a feel-good flick.

Drainage

Really wanted to like this, I love Kate Beckinsale but she took a bad left turn with this one. The writing/dialogue were just plain bad. Worst Jane Austen adaptation I've seen.

Room for Murder (2018 TV Movie)
10/10
slow start, great finish
14 July 2018
The first 20-30 minutes are a little slow but it picks up and turns into a great ride, exactly what you'd expect. Not every aspect of the movie is perfect but where it makes up for it and excels is casting. Lorynn York is a strong female lead, and lights up the screen as the concerned, suspicious daughter trying to protect/save her mother, played by Tanya Clarke. Clarke delivers a solid performance even though her character's refusal to see anything odd or weird about her boarder/boyfriend makes her seem a little desperate or daft (but still a great performance). Maslow is spot on as the eerily creepy handsome guy, and the energy/tension between Maslow and York is one area where the film excels. Adam Huber rounds out the cast as the perfect cop/ex-boyfriend. While it's tempting to think of this as a case of the playing being better than the piano, or performances being better than the film making, the director does a solid job. The pacing of the first 20-30 minutes is slow but once it gets into the action the film delivers.

Great show, heavy, painful
27 February 2018
Great show with amazing actors. Usually I like to single out faves but honestly there isn't a bad performance here. But like some of the other reviews mention it's heavy, painful. A powerful look at personal and institutional racism in USA

Amazing classic
27 February 2018
I'm not usually one for older films, but made an exception for Kubrick, and glad I did. I'm surprised this isn't one of his more celebrated and talked about films, but it is definitely worth seeing.

Web Cam Girls (2017 TV Movie)
10/10
Scary but fun ride
27 February 2018
Web Cam Girls is a terrifying, fun movie. As a parent of adolescent girls it stokes a certain paranoia regarding what children are up to online. The plot is a little predictable but director Doug Campbell delivers his trademark suspense (Death Clique). Most of the acting was great, especially the two female leads. Lorynn York as the abducted cam girl was excellent, and watching her go from cavalier cam candy to terrified captive was a fun ride. Can't wait to see her in The Boarder. Sedona Legge as her cousin was a nice surprise, and kudos to the film's makeup team for making Sedona look like such a girl next door type (instead of the stunning face of Gucci). All in all a fun, scary movie... hoping Lifetime makes more like this one!
