Stargate Universe: Divided (2010)
A terrible episode that insults the viewer with unintelligent dialog and unused plots
This has to be one of the most unintelligent episodes so far an out of the blue mutiny insulting unintelligent dialog and unused plots. The plot is simple Dr Rush and Camille Wrayn stage a mutiny with every civilian crew member on the ship except Eli offcourse. It begins with Colonel Everett Young and Matthew Scott leaving the ship in a shuttle to remove a small ship attached to the hull of destiny, apparently it has been there for centuries and of the same type used by the race in the last episode anyway Dr Rush and Camille using the opportunity try to transfer ships controls to a laboratory in the ship, Eli who is in the control room is visited by Chloe Armstrong obviously to distract Eli (who knew she would let herself be used as a tool) but when Eli cant lock the shuttle in he soon finds that someone is trying to transfer control of the ship and starts locking the system some dialog is then transferred between the conspirators and Young, Scott, Eli and Chloe which ends with Chloe running to see Rush when she is told that the shuttle crew would be killed when the ship jumps in to hyperspace. More dialog is transferred and after a brief standoff Rush pauses the transfer so Eli can lock the shuttle and the remaining systems, Rush then locks down the ship during which Tamara Johansen and a crew member get trapped with the conspirators the crew member draws his pistol when the civilians would not let him pass the only gun in the area and the advantage and he gets a perfect opportunity to kill one of the main conspirators Wrayn but asks Tamara his apparent superior officer what to do and she says put your gun down something no one would do in that situation but he complies and both become hostages. More dialog is transferred and it is soon realised that Eli has control of the ships air supply and could cut it off in the conspirators area but Rush is un moved saying 'they occupied a larger part of the ship and that there is enough oxygen for them to hold out until Young's team dies of dehydration, but here is an unused plot Eli could have just flooded the area with carbon monoxide till every one passed out. More dialog and its decided to trade Eli for food and water but this is just a diversion as Rush wants Eli because of the restricted access and Young needs time to go on a space walk with Scott so they can gain access to the lockdown areas via the ships damaged hull and gain access for his men. Now the aliens from the previous episode turn up and start attacking the ship some more dialog between Rush and Eli revels that Rush has a homer planted in his chest next to his heart but Chloe doesn't as there is no scar by this stage Young has gained access and has let his men in and has made his way to Rush who confidently explains that it was nessicary to take the ship so all power could be transferred to the shields till the ship re-jumps into hyperspace in 2min or so, Rush's secret is reviled and it is decided to remove the homer which occurs later but is successful and the ship jumps into hyperspace and Wrayn says to Young that they need to work together acting like nothing happened and a smug as ever which really annoyed me and all civilian crew members are sent to their quarters (isn't mutiny punishable by death or life in prison) Chloe and Scott make eye contact and Scott is obviously hurt by Chloe's actions Chloe also looks disappointed and upset at hurting Scott but maybe she shouldn't have let herself be used in the first place what did she expect. Overall this is a terrible episode that insults the viewer the only decent part is when it is revealed that the conspirators are little more than cowards when Young's team subdues them one tried to act tough but when he was faced with being shot by Ronald Greer soon backed down another tried to run or attack a furious Vanessa James and simply gets a face full of her M4 butt. The writers should be ashamed!
Dungeons & Dragons (2000)
You can't drive faster than the car in front of you!
One of my favorite sayings is 'you can't drive faster than the car in front of you' and it best describes this movie the script is the car in front. Every time the actors try to expand their characters the script shoots the crap out of them the plot looks like some one shot at it with an UZI and the characterization is all over the place also the rating it got was ridicules M15+. Now I have seen more violent movies with an M15+ rating Predator for one but all this movie had was the death of one of its characters and the death of a few dragons nothing more there wasn't any fowl language so why did it get such a high rating maybe the film classifiers wanted the movie to fail by dragging the younger audience away. Now the movie isn't a total loss when I first sore it I hated it after the first 5 minutes the second time I watched it it was more bearable and by the third time I could see the actors trying to work with the bad script and now I think of it as a good but bad movie the bad part being the script the good being that its bearable and a good enough watch on a slow day.
MASH (1970)
A must see
Even though this movie came out some 15 years before I was born I must admit that it's quite good even though its length and some boring bits is its killer. The story is sadistic and cruel and really rips your guts out when they depict the reality of war but not just any war but the Koran War a war which has been labeled the forgotten war and it good to see a movie that's about what happens to the shoulders that fort not shooting but saving the people who were doing the killing for there country. A very good movie that makes you think even if it's a little boring in some areas and a touch on the long side especially the directors cut a must see for any one who liked the TV show or likes some thing different to your average war movie.
Earth 2 (1994)
Why did they kill it off
I don't know why NBC stopped this show after one season as it showed real promise well OK I know some of you will disagree as the last few episodes started to show signs of bad writing and pore direction but hey if you have seen any of the star trek series most of the first season is s*#t as is the case with a lot of shows but that's no reason to cut a show off at the knees before it had a chance to set things right. But why did they cut it no real reason was ever stated just that there not running it any more I have heard that it was cut because another broadcaster had a similar show planed well before Earth 2 started and that when Earth 2 started NBC got spooked when they found out that another broadcaster might make a law suite out of it and so caned the show but as you all know no show similar to Earth 2 has ever been shown. If any one knows why the show was caned please show it on the net as there are many people who want to know what happed.
Batman Begins (2005)
Worthy to carry the name Batman
Finally there is a movie carrying the name Batman that has got it right every movie too date has got it wrong some how but this one didn't and has made its self the for runner so to speak of all the movies to date. The cast and scripting is great even through there is some parts missing but hey no movie is perfect and the persona of batman himself has changed to be darker and able to do any thing to set things straight. This movie is quite enjoyable and makes up for the loss of the other movies in both characters and scripting being darker and more sutle then the others. Great movie I highly recommend it to every one even if you didn't like the other movies because it's not like the others.
Thunderstone (1999)
Enjoyable for all ages
This show is one of the better Australian Sci-Fi TV shows comparable to Spellbinder, Spelbinder2 and Ocean girl. It consist of three seasons each with their own name and plot e.g. Thunderstone (first season), Return to Thunderstone (second season) and I can't remember the name of the third season. But like most Australian shows it was short lived only three short seasons but I don't think it could have been any longer as the overall plot by the third season was running thin. The acting and characterization is rather good and each episode is well written and enjoyable the seasons are slow to start and fast to finish making the show a no brainier when it comes to following the plot. I would recommend that this show is for all ages and enjoyable for every one.
King Kong (2005)
Very well done
This is the best re-make of the classic 1933 King Kong movie and will become a cult classic in the years to come just like the original did. This movie is typical of a Peter Jackson movie being well scripted, well acted by suitable actors, seamless plot and true to the original theme which in the case of this movie the original King Kong made in 1933. The acting and characterization is out standing especially Adrian Brody as Jack Driscoll he seems to be born to play this part and I don't believe any one else could have done a better job then him this is also the same for the whole cast. Naomi Watts plays her part superbly even when she had to do a lot of blue screen work, Jack Black is as cool as ever as Carl Denham playing the part like a tuned violin and Colin Hanks played his character the down to earth and moral Preston to the point where he seems to live the part. But acting and characterization is only one part of this movie the plot and scripting play the biggest part being true to the original, refined and tragic Jackson has once again fulfilled this making this movie equal to the original and in some parts better. This is the case where the crew of the ship decides to go after Ann and grab Mauser 98 rifles from the armory then the scene cuts to the captains quarters where he has a stash of Thompson 1928 SMG's under his bed mattress (which is some how comical as most people laughed including myself) shows us that the crew mean's to go on a hunt and is deadly serious about it. But sadly this movie is too long (I think about 45min or so) and too tragic for some and there also has been a few reviews criticizing it as to violent but I don't think so tragic yes but to violent no even through there is some violent moments it's no different then Jurassic Park and truly the M15+ rating it's got here is to harsh a PG rating with moderate adventure violence and some frightening and disturbing images would be more appropriate but still if you don't like tragic endings then this movie may not be for you and that's the bottom line. And to Peter Jactson very well done you have done it once again.
War of the Worlds (2005)
Not worth seeing not worth buying
This is without a dought the worst movie that has been based off the book "The War of the Worlds" that I have ever seen. Not only dose it betray the book but also the original movie made in the 50's which I think is much better dew to its plausible relationship with the book than this 2 hours worth of rubbish called a movie. The plot of the story is terrible the only thing that it has incomen with the book is that it has aliens in it and even they don't look like the ones described in the book also where the heck is the dialogue all the actors do is stare blankly at some one or at the floor and when there is dialogue it's simply a scream or 'Dad what's going on what are you doing' its like watching grass grow which seems to me far more enjoyable then this bag of air which by the end you find your self hating the characters especially the nagging no dialog character Dakota Fanning plays but also the characters father(played by Tom Cruise)who is to weak gutted to kill the people who tried to kill his kids. I understand that it can be hard to make a movie but they could have followed the book more closely then this lose fitting and a shamble of a movie they could of at least had the part where the war ship Thunderchild was destroyed while holding off the alien's so a boat full of people could escape to safety but no they just through together 2 hours of rubbish and called it The war of the worlds. The producers, writers and the director should team up and kick each other because they would have to be daffy to leave out such good material what the heck where they thinking. But hey I'm going to giving the movie the good end of the stick and will say see it for your self and make up your own mind but I think you will think after watching this movie that itis not worth seeing and not worth buying.
