Reptile (2023)
Solid but unspectacular murder mystery crime drama
The good: Top notch acting, good story, intriguing plot, strong finale.
The bad: Slow confusing beginning tests your patience and fails to captivate interest, weak character building leaves you feeling a bit disconnected and unsure who the good guys and bad guys are.
The indifferent: The back drop is in Maine, yet it feels like it could have been shot in any suburban town of the US. It would have been better to include more of the beautiful back drop of Maine, and to connect it's culture and customs with the viewer. Good movie overall just felt kind of disconnected from the characters and city it's shot in.
Frontier (2016)
More Woke nonsense programming
Yeah, let's rewrite history to our liking, hire actors that can't even speak proper dialects much less act, give everyone millennial hair dews, and write a WOKE script right out of their handbook. Every once in a while a good action scene breaks out and it becomes mildly interesting.
The Outpost (2019)
The good the bad and the ugly
It was a tragedy that they were put in such a position by their commanders. It was a story of heroism and the bond that soldiers have in their commitment to fulfill any mission at all costs. The realism, acting, and production were incredibly well done. I finished with tears in my eyes, wishing I could run out on the combat field and help them get out and back home safely. A reminder of the gratitude we owe the men and woman who so proudly serve our country.
Spectre (2015)
Sleeper
The scenic backdrops and audio sound scape quality were stunning. Not much about the film was worth watching. I learned more about the story by reading the summary on IMDb than I did watching the film because I could hardly stay awake. The film is an hour too long, the story is confusing and disconnected from the characters. They try to make some kind of global NSA that grows out of control and it's just really lousy. The acting wasn't bad, but you can only do so much with this ridiculous script. The action scenes were lame for the most part. Outlandishly unbelievable and something your 13 year old son would most likely be shouting, "Yeah right Dad, did you see that? That's impossible."
Bully (2001)
Portrays the decadent and violent reality of teen life today
Very real and compelling portrayal of a murder involving a group of teens growing up in suburban Florida. I could relate to the characters on many levels. Growing up in suburban Philadelphia I could have easily replaced the characters in the movie with people I in knew in my youth. It was a rude reminder of just how easily things can spiral out of control if you get involved with the wrong crowd and put yourself in such a precarious situation.
Although there were some parts of the movie that seemed over dramatized, it captures the violent and self destructive lifestyle American teens are exposed to, and the story is very well told and acted. Some might be put off by the crude sex and violence, but if you are able to look past that it a very entertaining movie that I would highly recommend.
