The Color Purple (2023)
Worth the watch
I went in not really sure what to expect. But the movie was entertaining at the very least. It really did have it all in that it was suspenseful, made you cry, poignant, touching.
I had not seen the movie that was made in 1985 but I had read the book, and I thought the movie was better than the book. There were some parts where I felt that they could have gone into more detail but I think they opted to kind of stay on surface with some stories because the movie was already going to be long, they didn't want to be any longer. I was pleasantly surprised to see the depth of many of the actors including Deon Cole and David Allen Greer.
All of the performances were awesome.
Squid Game: The Challenge (2023)
Yes, it dragged sometimes
And some good scenes. The artistry had me give this the higher rating than a five. If you fast forward through, you will get to the games faster. Show is really well done, and the shooting of the individual stories probably slowed it down.
The show probably could have been done in maybe six or seven episodes instead of 11.
In their "making of" show I was disappointed because they didn't show how people safely landed on the glass floor game. I want to see how the people stay safe who landed. That was a big miss in that show.
Squid game was fun and I think they made the game fair by not having the tug of war and replace with battleship.
Unprisoned (2023)
Shouldn't be called a comedy
The show is a comedy like the 1000 Little Things is a comedy. You'll laugh, but the show is really a drama and trying to make a statement a la Good Times.
So little comedy it wouldn't even be called a "dramedy".
I do like the lesson of how our parents affect our lives and the decisions we make, so it's worth watching for the psychology, but just don't expect laughs like "The Jeffersons" or The Cosby Show.
The relationships are interesting in that the son wants to interact with the former inmate grandfather, and how mom wants to protect him from hearing about that life, and protect him from moving towards that life.
And I learned why women like bad boys. Now that I know what the show is and isn't, I'm looking forward to season 2.
The Time Capsule (2022)
The Sci-fi angle was kinda cool
I might be too religious and too realistic for a film like this.
A wife is going to invite the husband's old flame to dinner?
A friend is going to encourage their buddy to leave a marriage because of puppy love?
Probably, the only realistic piece is that a dad is going to try and keep an old creep from seeing his daughter.
I did like some of the Sci-fi issues of suspended animation. The world moves on, with or without you.
But I just felt the situation was impractical, and unrealistic. His wife is going to coach the girl on how to steal her man?
He's going to give up everything for love, when in 10 years time he's going to end up in the exact same situation he had with his wife?
For some reason I can watch Fast & Furious and take my realistic hat off and enjoy the movie as a bank vault get dragged through city streets by two cars on cables, but Time Capsule frustrated me. Why risk your marriage?
Parker (2013)
Would a realty agent? ...
The movie was good for about the first 30 minutes or so, and then they introduced a Realty agent who's car was about to be repossessed. Instead of the Realty agent going to get a part-time job, or asking for extra hours, or posting of homes to sell, she decides to stock a possible thief, and possible murderer.
I just could not wrap my head around that.
Otherwise the movie had the normal Anglo power, can take any pain, superpower individual that movies of this nature have. He is gentle, he can get shot and still live, he can get stabbed and still live, he can get cut and still live:-). Any person would be dead after all of that.
Best Christmas Ball Ever (2019)
Why not her Uncle?
The uncle belonged to her brother, but he was not her uncle? So why was he the uncle of the brother but not her? Unfortunately I got stuck with that in my head for the entire movie so I missed most of it 😂
This movie in America was called the Great Christmas Ball and was enjoyable to watch on Christmas morning.
I have to admit that the big reveal at the end of the movie was going to occur much earlier.
Anyway, I hope someone can explain to me why the uncle was her brother's uncle, but not her uncle. That really left me wondering for the entire show. Was that her half brother? Was he adopted?
Fun, brainless movie. WWE for women.
The Ladies Man (1961)
Disjointed ... seems everything was done with "one take only"
With the exception of the huge impressive "doll house" set, the movie had no consistent story.
There were some funny parts. I think when I saw this as a kid, I thought it was hilarious, but now that I'm 60 years old, it was just too goofy, and the story jumped all over the place.
After his embarrassing find at the beginning of the film, the camera zooms in on one of the girls (Pat Stanley) as if somehow she's going to be part of the movie; but, you just see her once again at the end.
The movie just moved too slowly. Just a grade above high school project. Yes, that's it. It was a first-year college level film.
