Poms (2019)
Seniors Will RelateTo This Film
I have been presenting films at a retirement community in Maryland for 12 years.
The audience's average age is in the mid 80's. I'm always looking for films that stars older actors and situations that they can relate to. "Poms" was a huge hit with the audience of over 70 residents who were at the screening. They related to the dark humor involved with the aging process, trying new adventures at their age and living in a large but confined community. Seeing this film with an audience a generation older that me as terrific because they laughed at situations that I was not familiar with.
This is a funny and bitter-sweet comedy that also confronts the aging process in a non condescending way.

Foxtrot (2017)
Thought Provoking
I saw this film at the 2017 Telluride Film Festival. This film is about the war machine of a country that has been continuously at war.
The way families of those killed were treated with machine like efficiency was quite shocking. There are light moments in the film about boredom of serving in the military and how terrible mistakes are made and covered up. This Israeli film is about its continuous conflict, but it could have easily been an American film.
