Late Night with the Devil (2023)
Unsure
This film seems to have held a massively high rating for the horror genre for so long. 7.5 stars for a horror film is almost unheard of and to be honest I cannot understand why it is rated so high. It screams "shudder original". The idea is incredible but the special effects toward the end did not live up to how the film should have been. In my opinion they should have focused it on the young possessed girl and led with that instead of trying to tie in lore to the jacks wife. I could not help but cringe at the electricity scene when the demon took full control of the young girl. It looked ridiculous frankly. Still, it is better than most horrors out there and for the aesthetic of the 70s and the amazing acting I give it 7 stars out of 10.
Imaginary (2024)
Another blumhouse failure
I knew when I put this film on it wouldn't meet the standards of say a24 or neon but oh my sweet Jesus. The acting in this "movie" is absolutely horrendous. The script seems like it's been written by AI, full of nonsensical gibberish. People do not speak this way. There is also a Wilhelm scream near the beginning and cheap jump scare sound effects. Why can't blumhouse stop spitting out movies one after another like this? Why can't they spend some time and actually write and direct something decent. This is hands down the worst movie ever made by blumhouse. The only plus side I will say is the design of the monster is somewhat decent but clearly cgi. If you have time to waste then watch it. If not, watch something with good acting and a story line like Pearl or Suspiria 2018.
No Way Up (2024)
LOL
Only thing that led me to my 4 star rating and not 3 star rating was Jed's death. Keep this guy away from acting at all costs. His screams of agony were hilarious.
Aside from that the film had no plot point. Very messy and a poor attempt at character development. The best acting came from the young girl and the grandmother. However, giving the teddy a typical British name was almost offensive lol.
Very little shark screen time probably because when they were on screen it made Samuel l jacksons death in deep blue sea look like real life.
The film is extremely goofy and the dialogue is horrendous. Watch for fun is all I'll say.
The Exorcist: Believer (2023)
Spoilers! DGG needs to be stopped
First he ruins Halloween which is of course thee Halloween movie like ultimately. Now he comes for the without argument the scariest and most important horror film ever made.
The first part of the film is very very promising. Later when the girls are actually possessed there is little to no demon dialogue and when there is demon dialogue it is almost muted with loud and annoying stereotypical Blum house horror movie jump scare sound effects.
There is a line delivered by Katherine "are you looking for your cunting daughter?" This annoyed me as the word "cunting" is not a word that is used or probably ever used bar the original movie and was used to taunt Chris when Regan spoke in Burke dennings voice. It is a curse he used regularly.
The only saving grace is the young girls acting but they make it very clear in my opinion which girl dies from the very beginning. Race in my opinion is always a factor. Fear of killing off a black character incase there is uproar. We see hella character development between Angela and her father but none between Katherine and her family. We basically see she has a mother and two younger siblings and a useless crappy actor as a father and that's it.
I'm also very annoyed that the majority of what we saw in promotional work was not shown on screen! Katherine and Angela at church together, Katherine pulling her hair out, Katherine sitting at the dinner table with her mother while possessed, the demon itself!, the word "mother on Angela's wall in feces.
I can't help but think if they actually cared about this film and it's legacy they would find a better director and distributor.
One last thing I'll say is I found it unfair there was no memorial at the end for William Friedkin or William blatty. They have built the foundation for your garbage David Gordon green and Jason Blum so show them some respect.
Ellen has around five minutes of screen time and Linda has one frame. WhT more can I say?
The Quarry (2022)
Bad game
The most glitchiest annoying game I've ever played. Brags about death rewind feature but unless you manually select it you cannot use it. Started a second play through after a year and was going so well until I killed Kaitlin. As the game doesn't always give you the option of selecting death rewind you aren't given the option. The amount of bugs in this game is disgraceful. Update after update and still full of bugs and glitches. I will 100% be selling this at my earliest convenience. Save your money and watch a walk though on YouTube because it does not at all deserve the 8 star rating it has!
Don't Worry Darling (2022)
Should have been a black mirror episode
Aside from the fact that this should have without a doubt been a black mirror episode that Olivia Wilde wrote and directed, harry styles acting made me cringe so bad from start to end. A very slow burn. The only saving grace was Florence Pugh who carried the entire film on her shoulders which is why I'm assuming Olivia Wilde hates her.
A lot was left unexplained and the pacing wasn't exactly the best either. I definitely think that this film had a lot of potential that was missed. Shame because this film could have been great. Take this review with a pinch of salt because it is not a bad film but If you have time to waste then watch this.
Barbarian (2022)
I don't get the hype
I might change my 6 star rating when I watch again in my own home but for now I'm sticking with 6.
This film seemed so good to start off with but when we first see the mother it seems to be very fast paced and rushed.
A lot of important things that should have been explained in detail such as the man who kidnaps and SA women and their children. This seemed confusing to me and rushed.
Even still, Georgina Campbell done an incredible job and always the amazing Justin long but I don't understand why bill was cast. His screen time was approximately 20 minutes. I think he was only cast due to his previous work.
